Cross-couplings between a massless spin-two field (described in the free limit by the Pauli–Fierz action) and an Abelian three-form gauge field in D = 11 are investigated in the framework of the deformation theory based on local BRST cohomology. These consistent interactions are obtained on the grounds of smoothness in the coupling constant, locality, Lorentz covariance, Poincaré invariance, and the presence of at most two derivatives in the interacting Lagrangian. Our results confirm the uniqueness of the 11-dimensional interactions between a graviton and a three-form prescribed by general relativity.

The interactions that can be introduced between a massless Rarita–Schwinger field and an Abelian three-form gauge field in 11 space–time dimensions are analyzed in the context of the deformation of the "free" solution of the master equation combined with local BRST cohomology. Under the hypotheses of smoothness of the interactions in the coupling constant, locality, Poincaré invariance, Lorentz covariance, and the presence of at most two derivatives in the Lagrangian of the interacting theory (the same number of derivatives as in the free Lagrangian), we prove that there are neither cross-couplings nor self-interactions for the gravitino in D = 11. The only possible term that can be added to the deformed solution to the master equation is nothing but a generalized Chern–Simons term for the three-form gauge field, which brings contributions to the deformed Lagrangian, but does not modify the original, Abelian gauge transformations.

The cross-couplings among several Weyl gravitons (described in the free limit by a sum of linearized Weyl actions) in the presence of a scalar field are studied with the help of the deformation theory based on local BRST cohomology. Under the hypotheses of locality, smoothness of the interactions in the coupling constant, Poincaré invariance, (background) Lorentz invariance, and the preservation of the number of derivatives on each field, together with the supplementary assumption that the internal metric defined by the sum of Weyl Lagrangians is positively defined, we prove that there are no consistent cross-interactions among different Weyl gravitons in the presence of a scalar field. The couplings of a single Weyl graviton to a scalar field are also discussed.

Under the hypotheses of analyticity, locality, Lorentz covariance, and Poincaré invariance of the deformations, combined with the requirement that the interaction vertices contain at most two space–time derivatives of the fields, we investigate the consistent cross-couplings between two collections of tensor fields with the mixed symmetries of the type (3, 1) and (2, 2). The computations are done with the help of the deformation theory based on a cohomological approach in the context of the antifield-BRST formalism. Our results can be synthesized in: (i) there appear consistent cross-couplings between the two types of field collections at order one and two in the coupling constant such that some of the gauge generators and of the reducibility functions are deformed, and (ii) the existence or not of cross-couplings among different fields with the mixed symmetry of the Riemann tensor depends on the indefinite or respectively positive-definite behavior of the quadratic form defined by the kinetic terms from the free Lagrangian.

In this paper, we provide a general framework for the construction of the Einstein frame within non-linear extensions of the teleparallel equivalents of General Relativity. These include the metric teleparallel and the symmetric teleparallel, but also the general teleparallel theories. We write the actions in a form where we separate the Einstein–Hilbert term, the conformal mode due to the non-linear nature of the theories (which is analogous to the extra degree of freedom in f(R) theories), and the sector that manifestly shows the dynamics arising from the breaking of local symmetries. This frame is then used to study the theories around the Minkowski background, and we show how all the non-linear extensions share the same quadratic action around Minkowski. As a matter of fact, we find that the gauge symmetries that are lost by going to the non-linear generalisations of the teleparallel General Relativity equivalents arise as accidental symmetries in the linear theory around Minkowski. Remarkably, we also find that the conformal mode can be absorbed into a Weyl rescaling of the metric at this order and, consequently, it disappears from the linear spectrum so only the usual massless spin 2 perturbation propagates. These findings unify in a common framework the known fact that no additional modes propagate on Minkowski backgrounds, and we can trace it back to the existence of accidental gauge symmetries of such a background.

In this paper, we have studied nonstationary radiative spherically symmetric spacetime, in general covariant theory (U(1) extension) of Hořava–Lifshitz (HL) gravity without the projectability condition and in the infrared (IR) limit. The Newtonian prepotential φ was assumed null. We have shown that there is not the analogue of the Vaidya's solution in the Hořava–Lifshitz Theory (HLT), as we know in the General Relativity Theory (GRT). Therefore, we conclude that the gauge field A should interact with the null radiation field of the Vaidya's spacetime in the HLT.

We study the fermionisation of Seiberg–Witten mapped action (to order θ) of the λϕ4 theory coupled minimally with U(1) gauge field governed by Chern–Simons action. Starting from the corresponding partition function we derive nonperturbatively (in coupling constant) the partition function of the spin-1/2 theory following Polyakov spin factor formalism. We find that the dual interacting fermionic theory is nonlocal. This feature also persists in the limit of vanishing self-coupling. In θ → 0 limit, the commutative result is obtained.

In this paper, we show that the general relativity action (and Lagrangian) in recent Einstein–Palatini formulation is equivalent in four dimensions to the action (and Langrangian) of a gauge field. First, we briefly showcase the Einstein–Palatini (EP) action, and then we present how Einstein fields equations can be derived from it. In the next section, we study Einstein–Palatini action integral for general relativity with a positive cosmological constant Λ in terms of the corrected curvature Ω c o r . We see that in terms of Ω c o r this action takes the form typical for a gauge field. Finally, we give a geometrical interpretation of the corrected curvature Ω c o r .

We study the effect of mass on geometric descriptions of gauge field theories. In an approach in which the massless theory resembles general relativity, the introduction of the mass entails non-zero torsion and the generalization to Einstein–Cartan–Sciama–Kibble theories. The relationships to pure torsion formulations (teleparallel gravity) and to higher gauge theories are also discussed.

Under the hypotheses of smoothness of the interactions in the coupling constant, locality, Poincaré invariance, Lorentz covariance and the preservation of the number of derivatives on each field in the Lagrangian of the interacting theory (the same number of derivatives like in the free Lagrangian), we prove that the only consistent interactions in D = 11 among massless gravitini, a graviton, and a three-form are described by N = 1, D = 11 SUGRA.
