Relativistic system for a vector-bispinior describing a massless spin 3/2 field is studied in the spherical coordinates of Minkowski space. Presentation of the equation with the use of the covariant Levi-Civita tensor exhibits existence of the gauge solutions in the form of the covariant 4-gradient of an arbitrary bispinor. Substitution for 16-component field function is based on the use of Wigner functions, it assumes diagonalization of the operators of energy, square and third projection of the total angular momentum, and space reflection. We derive radial system for eight independent functions. General structure of the spherical gauge solutions is specified, and it is demonstrated that the gauge radial functions satisfy the derived system. It is proved that the general system reduces to two couples of independent 2-nd order and nonhomogeneous differential equations, their particular solutions may be found with the use of the gauge solutions. The corresponding homogeneous equations have one the same form, they have three regular singularities and one irregular of the rank 2. Frobenius types solutions for this equation have been constructed, and the structure of the involved power series with 4-term recurrent relations sre studied. Six remaining radial functions may be straightforwardly found by means of the simple algebraic relations. Thus, we have constructed two types of solutions with opposite parities which do not contain gauge constituents.

AbstractIn the conventional approach, fermionic test fields lead to a generic overspinning of black holes resulting in the formation of naked singularities. The absorption of the fermionic test fields with arbitrarily low frequencies is allowed for which the contribution to the angular momentum parameter of the space-time diverges. Recently we have suggested a more subtle treatment of the problem considering the fact that only the fraction of the test fields that is absorbed by the black hole contributes to the space-time parameters. Here, we re-consider the interaction of massless spin (1/2) fields with Kerr and Kerr–Newman black holes, adapting this new approach. We show that the drastic divergence problem disappears when one incorporates the absorption probabilities. Still, there exists a range of parameters for the test fields that can lead to overspinning. We employ backreaction effects due to the self-energy of the test fields which fixes the overspinning problem for fields with relatively large amplitudes, and renders it non-generic for smaller amplitudes. This non-generic overspinning appears likely to be fixed by alternative semi-classical and quantum effects.

We extend the cosmological bootstrap to correlators involving massless spinning particles, focusing on spin-1 and spin-2. In de Sitter space, these correlators are constrained both by symmetries and by locality. In particular, the de Sitter isometries become conformal symmetries on the future boundary of the spacetime, which are reflected in a set of Ward identities that the boundary correlators must satisfy. We solve these Ward identities by acting with weight-shifting operators on scalar seed solutions. Using this weight-shifting approach, we derive three- and four-point correlators of massless spin-1 and spin-2 fields with conformally coupled scalars. Four-point functions arising from tree-level exchange are singular in particular kinematic configurations, and the coefficients of these singularities satisfy certain factorization properties. We show that in many cases these factorization limits fix the structure of the correlators uniquely, without having to solve the conformal Ward identities. The additional constraint of locality for massless spinning particles manifests itself as current conservation on the boundary. We find that the four-point functions only satisfy current conservation if the s, t, and u-channels are related to each other, leading to nontrivial constraints on the couplings between the conserved currents and other operators in the theory. For spin-1 currents this implies charge conservation, while for spin-2 currents we recover the equivalence principle from a purely boundary perspective. For multiple spin-1 fields, we recover the structure of Yang--Mills theory. Finally, we apply our methods to slow-roll inflation and derive a few phenomenologically relevant scalar-tensor three-point functions.

Abstract We put forward a two-dimensional nonlinear sigma model that couples (bosonic) matter fields to topological Hořava gravity on a nonrelativistic worldsheet. In the target space, this sigma model describes classical strings propagating in a curved spacetime background, whose geometry is described by two distinct metric fields. We evaluate the renormalization group flows of this sigma model on a flat worldsheet and derive a set of beta-functionals for the bimetric fields. Imposing worldsheet Weyl invariance at the quantum level, we uncover a set of gravitational field equations that dictate the dynamics of the bimetric fields in the target space, where a unique massless spin-two excitation emerges. When the bimetric fields become identical, the sigma model gains an emergent Lorentz symmetry. In this single metric limit, the beta-functionals of the bimetric fields reduce to the Ricci flow equation that arises in bosonic string theory, and the bimetric gravitational field equations give rise to Einstein’s gravity.

We obtain the wave equation of the perturbation theory governing massless fields of spin 0, 1/2, 1, 3/2 and 2 in accelerating Kerr–Newman–(anti-)de Sitter black holes. We show that the wave equation is separable and the radial and angular equations can both be transformed into Heun’s equation. We approximate Heun’s equation and analyze the solution of radial function near the event horizon. It is worth pointing out that all the field equations collapse to a unique equation which means it can provide a possible way for the analog research between the gravitational field and those other fields.

AbstractWe show the existence of ground states in the massless spin boson model without any infrared regularization. Our proof is non-perturbative and relies on a compactness argument. It works for arbitrary values of the coupling constant under the hypothesis that the second derivative of the ground state energy as a function of a constant external magnetic field is bounded.

Abstract We find and classify the simplest $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 2 SUSY multiplets on AdS4 which contain partially massless fields. We do this by studying representations of the $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 2, d = 3 superconformal algebra of the boundary, including new shortening conditions that arise in the non-unitary regime. Unlike the $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 1 case, the simplest $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 2 multiplet containing a partially massless spin-2 is short, containing several exotic fields. More generally, we argue that $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 2 supersymmetry allows for short multiplets that contain partially massless spin-s particles of depth t = s − 2.

Abstract We consider a broad class of massive four dimensional effective theories describing an infinite tower of charged massive spin 1 states, interacting with massless spin 1 and spin 0. The spectrum is chosen to be the same as that appears in the Kaluza-Klein theory reduction of 5d Yang-Mills to ensure the absence of any spurious poles in a possible double copy formulation. The effective theories are characterized by multiple different couplings between different fields which are unconstrained by symmetries and low energy criteria. Remarkably, by demanding that the scattering amplitudes preserve colour-kinematics duality for different scattering processes, required for the existence of a massive double copy, we find that our 4d Lagrangian is fixed uniquely to the Kaluza-Klein compactification of 5d Yang-Mills theory together with its known double copy consistent higher derivative operators.

In this paper, we provide a general framework for the construction of the Einstein frame within non-linear extensions of the teleparallel equivalents of General Relativity. These include the metric teleparallel and the symmetric teleparallel, but also the general teleparallel theories. We write the actions in a form where we separate the Einstein–Hilbert term, the conformal mode due to the non-linear nature of the theories (which is analogous to the extra degree of freedom in f(R) theories), and the sector that manifestly shows the dynamics arising from the breaking of local symmetries. This frame is then used to study the theories around the Minkowski background, and we show how all the non-linear extensions share the same quadratic action around Minkowski. As a matter of fact, we find that the gauge symmetries that are lost by going to the non-linear generalisations of the teleparallel General Relativity equivalents arise as accidental symmetries in the linear theory around Minkowski. Remarkably, we also find that the conformal mode can be absorbed into a Weyl rescaling of the metric at this order and, consequently, it disappears from the linear spectrum so only the usual massless spin 2 perturbation propagates. These findings unify in a common framework the known fact that no additional modes propagate on Minkowski backgrounds, and we can trace it back to the existence of accidental gauge symmetries of such a background.

The quantum field theory in de Sitter ambient space provide us with a comprehensive description of massless gravitational field. Using the gauge-covariant derivative in the de Sitter ambient space, the gauge invariant Lagrangian density has been found. In this paper, the equation of the conjugate spinor for massless spin-$\frac{3}{2}$ field is obtained by Euler-Lagrange equation. Then the field equation is written in terms of the Casimir operator of the de Sitter group. Finally, the gauge invariant field equation is presented.
