The ground-state (GS) phase diagrams of spin-3/2 Ising model for ferromagnetic/antiferromagnetic (FM/AFM) interactions on a two-layer lattice are studied under a constant magnetic field by varying the crystal field values for general coordination number q in detail. Thus, it is found that the system exhibits twenty-nine topologically different GS configurations according to their GS phase diagrams obtained in the (J2/J1, J3/qJ1) planes. As the crystal field becomes more and more negative, the remaining phase configurations in the phase diagrams include only spin ±1/2 values as expected.

The ground-state phase diagrams are obtained for the spin-2 Ising model Hamiltonian with bilinear and biquadratic exchange interactions and a single-ion crystal field. The interactions are assumed to be only between nearest-neighbors. Obtained phase diagrams are presented in the (Δ,J), (K,J), (Δ/J,K/J), (Δ/|J|,K/|J|), (Δ/|K|,J/|K|), (H/J,Δ/J), (H/|J|,Δ/|J|), (H/J,K/J), and (H/|J|,K/|J|) planes where J, K, Δ, and H are the bilinear, biquadratic exchange interactions, the single-ion crystal field, and the external magnetic field, respectively. The influence of the external magnetic field on the spin configurations is investigated.

AbstractWe present a study of the ground state and stability of the fractional plateau phase (FPP) with M/Msat = 1/8 in the metallic Shastry–Sutherland system TmB4. Magnetization (M) measurements show that the FPP states are thermodynamically stable when the sample is cooled in constant magnetic field from the paramagnetic phase to the ordered one at 2 K. On the other hand, after zero-field cooling and subsequent magnetization these states appear to be of dynamic origin. In this case the FPP states are closely associated with the half plateau phase (HPP, M/Msat = ½), mediate the HPP to the low-field antiferromagnetic (AF) phase and depend on the thermodynamic history. Thus, in the same place of the phase diagram both, the stable and the metastable (dynamic) fractional plateau (FP) states, can be observed, depending on the way they are reached. In case of metastable FP states thermodynamic paths are identified that lead to very flat fractional plateaus in the FPP. Moreover, with a further decrease of magnetic field also the low-field AF phase becomes influenced and exhibits a plateau of the order of 1/1000 Msat.

AbstractWithin effective field theory (EFT), the critical properties of a random transverse crystal field Ising model with bond dilution are studied on a square lattice. Under both weak and strong bond dilution conditions, we consider three cases (α = 0,±0.5) of a transverse crystal field ratio, obtaining global phase diagrams in T−D x space for changes in the random transverse crystal field concentration. The phase diagrams obtained for a weak bond dilution are very similar in shape to those of pure bond but with decreases in corresponding ordered phases and critical values. However, the phase diagrams for a strong bond dilution exhibit varieties, including a change in reentrant phenomenon, the occurrence of transverse crystal field degeneration, and the opposite direction crossover of temperature peak value.
