The fundamental description of relaxation (T1 and T2) in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is provided by the Bloch equation, an integer-order ordinary differential equation that interrelates precession of magnetization with time- and space-dependent relaxation. In this paper, we propose a fractional order Bloch equation that includes an extended model of time delays. The fractional time derivative embeds in the Bloch equation a fading power law form of system memory while the time delay averages the present value of magnetization with an earlier one. The analysis shows different patterns in the stability behavior for T1 and T2 relaxation. The T1 decay is stable for the range of delays tested (1 μsec to 200 μsec), while the T2 relaxation in this extended model exhibits a critical delay (typically 100 μsec to 200 μsec) above which the system is unstable. Delays arise in NMR in both the system model and in the signal excitation and detection processes. Therefore, by adding extended time delay to the fractional derivative model for the Bloch equation, we believe that we can develop a more appropriate model for NMR resonance and relaxation.

Fractional-order gene regulatory networks with time delay (DFGRNs) have proven that they are more suitable to model gene regulation mechanism than integer-order. In this paper, a novel DFGRN is proposed. The existence and uniqueness of the equilibrium point for the DFGRN are proved under certain conditions. On this basis, the conditions on the global asymptotic stability are established by using the Lyapunov method and comparison theorem for the DFGRN, and the stability conditions are dependent on the fractional-order [Formula: see text]. Finally, numerical simulations show that the obtained results are reasonable.

In this study, we propose a novel fractional-order Jerk system. Experiments show that, under some suitable parameters, the fractional-order Jerk system displays a chaotic phenomenon. In order to suppress the chaotic behavior of the fractional-order Jerk system, we design two control strategies. Firstly, we design an appropriate time delay feedback controller to suppress the chaos of the fractional-order Jerk system. The delay-independent stability and bifurcation conditions are established. Secondly, we design a suitable mixed controller, which includes a time delay feedback controller and a fractional-order PDσ controller, to eliminate the chaos of the fractional-order Jerk system. The sufficient condition ensuring the stability and the creation of Hopf bifurcation for the fractional-order controlled Jerk system is derived. Finally, computer simulations are executed to verify the feasibility of the designed controllers. The derived results of this study are absolutely new and possess potential application value in controlling chaos in physics. Moreover, the research approach also enriches the chaos control theory of fractional-order dynamical system.

In this paper, a fractional-order land model with Holling-II type transformation rate and time delay is investigated. First of all, the variable-order fractional derivative is defined in the Caputo type. Second, by applying time delay as the bifurcation parameter, some criteria to determine the stability and Hopf bifurcation of the model are presented. It turns out that the time delay can drive the model to be oscillatory, even when its steady state is stable. Finally, one numerical example is proposed to justify the validity of theoretical analysis. These results may provide insights to the development of a reasonable strategy to control land-use change.

In this paper, based on the earlier research, a new fractional-order chaotic Genesio-Tesi model is established. The chaotic phenomenon of the fractional-order chaotic Genesio-Tesi model is controlled by designing two suitable time-delayed feedback controllers. With the aid of Laplace transform, we obtain the characteristic equation of the controlled chaotic Genesio-Tesi model. Then by regarding the time delay as the bifurcation parameter and analyzing the characteristic equation, some new sufficient criteria to guarantee the stability and the existence of Hopf bifurcation for the controlled fractional-order chaotic Genesio-Tesi model are derived. The research shows that when time delay remains in some interval, the equilibrium point of the controlled chaotic Genesio-Tesi model is stable and a Hopf bifurcation will happen when the time delay crosses a critical value. The effect of the time delay on the stability and the existence of Hopf bifurcation for the controlled fractional-order chaotic Genesio-Tesi model is shown. At last, computer simulations check the rationalization of the obtained theoretical prediction. The derived key results in this paper play an important role in controlling the chaotic behavior of many other differential chaotic systems.

In this study, an algebraic stability test procedure is presented for fractional order time delay systems. This method is based on the principle of eliminating time delay. The stability test of fractional order systems cannot be examined directly using classical methods such as Routh-Hurwitz, because such systems do not have analytical solutions. When a system contains the square roots of s, it is seen that there is a double value function of s. In this study, a stability test procedure is applied to systems including sqrt(s) and/or different fractional degrees such as s^alpha where 0 < ? < 1, and ? include in R. For this purpose, the integer order equivalents of fractional order terms are first used and then the stability test is applied to the system by eliminating time delay. Thanks to the proposed method, it is not necessary to use approximations instead of time delay term such as Pade. Thus, the stability test procedure does not require the solution of higher order equations.

The present work is related to solving the fractional generalized Korteweg-de Vries (gKdV) equation in fractional time derivative form of order α . Some exact solutions of the fractional-order gKdV equation are attained by employing the new powerful expansion approach by using the beta-fractional derivative which is used to get many solitary wave solutions by changing various parameters. The obtained solutions include three classes of soliton wave solutions in terms of hyperbolic function, trigonometric function, and rational function solutions. The obtained solutions and the exact solutions are shown graphically, highlighting the effects of nonlinearity. Some of the nonlinear equations arise in fluid dynamics and nonlinear phenomena.

This chapter focuses on the adaptive neural control of a class of uncertain multi-input multi-output (MIMO) nonlinear time-delay non-integer order systems with unmeasured states, unknown control direction, and unknown asymmetric saturation actuator. The design of the controller follows a number of steps. Firstly, based on the semi-group property of fractional order derivative, the system is transformed into a normalized fractional order system by means of a state transformation in order to facilitate the control design. Then, a simple linear state observer is constructed to estimate the unmeasured states of the transformed system. A neural network is incorporated to approximate the unknown nonlinear functions while a Nussbaum function is used to deal with the unknown control direction. In addition, the strictly positive real (SPR) condition, the Razumikhin lemma, the frequency distributed model, and the Lyapunov method are utilized to derive the parameter adaptive laws and to perform the stability proof.

A simplest fractional-order delayed memristive chaotic system is investigated in order to analyze the nonlinear dynamics of the system. The stability and bifurcation behaviors of this system are initially investigated, where time delay is selected as the bifurcation parameter. Some explicit conditions for describing the stability interval and the transversality condition of the emergence for Hopf bifurcation are derived. The period doubling route to chaos behaviors of such a system is discussed by using a bifurcation diagram, a phase diagram, a time-domain diagram, and the largest Lyapunov exponents (LLEs) diagram. Specifically, we study the influence of time delay on the chaotic behavior, and find that when time delay increases, the transitions from one cycle to two cycles, two cycles to four cycles, and four cycles to chaos are observed in this system model. Corresponding critical values of time delay are determined, showing the lowest orders for chaos in the fractional-order delayed memristive system. Finally, numerical simulations are provided to verify the correctness of theoretical analysis using the modified Adams–Bashforth–Moulton method.

Abstract The paper aims at presenting the influence of an open-loop time delay on the stability and tracking performance of a second-order open-loop system and continuoustime fractional-order PI controller. The tuning method of this controller is based on Hermite- Biehler and Pontryagin theorems, and the tracking performance is evaluated on the basis of two integral performance indices, namely IAE and ISE. The paper extends the results and methodology presented in previous work of the authors to analysis of the influence of time delay on the closed-loop system taking its destabilizing properties into account, as well as concerning possible application of the presented results and used models.
