The motivation for the use of state-derivative feedback instead of conventional state feedback is due to its easy implementation in some mechanical applications, for example, in vibration control of mechanical systems, where accelerometers have been used to measure the system state. Using linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) and a parameter-dependent Lyapunov functions (PDLF) allowed by Finsler’s lemma, a less conservative approach to the controller design via state-derivative feedback, is proposed in this work, with and without decay rate restriction, for continuous-time linear systems subject to polytopic uncertainties. Finally, numerical examples illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

An adaptive regulator is designed for parameter dependent families of systems subject to changes in the zero structure. Since continuous adaptive regulation is limited by relative degree and right half plane zeros, a multiple model adaptive regulator is implemented. The two multiple model design subproblems, covering and switching, are addressed with LQR state feedback and Lyapunov function switch logic respectively. These two subproblems are combined into a set of Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMI) and concurrently solved. The multiple model design method is applied to longitudinal aircraft dynamics.

This paper addresses robust H∞ control and stabilization of switched linear systems with norm-bounded time-varying uncertainties. First, based on multiple Lyapunov functions methodology, a sufficient condition is derived for robust stabilization with a prescribed disturbance attenuation level γ only by employing state-dependent switching rules. Then the robust H∞ control synthesis via switched state feedback is studied. It is shown that a switched state-feedback controller can be designed to stabilize the switched systems with an H∞-norm bound if a matrix inequality based condition is feasible. This condition can be dealt with as linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) provided that the associated parameters are selected in advance. All the results presented can be regarded as an extension of some existing results for both switched and nonswitched systems.

In this paper, the state-feedback mixed H2/H∞ control problem for state-delayed linear systems is considered. Sufficient conditions for the solvability of this problem are given in terms of the solution to a pair of algebraic Riccati equations similar to the nondelayed case. However, these Riccati equations are more difficult to solve than those arising in the pure H2,H∞ problems, and an alternative approach is to solve a pair of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs).

AbstractThe paper mitigates the existing conditions reported in the previous literature for control design of discrete-time linear positive systems. Incorporating an associated structure of linear matrix inequalities, combined with the Lyapunov inequality guaranteing asymptotic stability of discrete-time positive system structures, new conditions are presented with which the state-feedback controllers and the system state observers can be designed. Associated solutions of the proposed design conditions are illustrated by numerical illustrative examples.

In this paper, a new finite-time stability (FTS) concept, which is defined as positive FTS (PFTS), is introduced into discrete-time linear systems. Differently from previous FTS-related papers, the initial state as well as the state trajectory is required to be in the non-negative orthant of the Euclidean space. Some test criteria are established for the PFTS of the unforced system. Then, a sufficient condition is proposed for the design of a state feedback controller such that the closed-loop system is positively finite-time stable. This condition is provided in terms of a series of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) with some equality constraints. Moreover, the requirement of non-negativity of the controller is considered. Finally, two examples are presented to illustrate the developed theory.

SummaryA conservatism-reduced design of a gain scheduled output feedbackH∞controller for ann-joint rigid robotic manipulator, which integrates the varying-parameter rate without their feedback, is proposed. The robotic system is reduced to a 1inear parameter varying (LPV) form, which depends on the varying-parameter. By using a parameter-dependent Lyapunov function, the design of a controller, which satisfies the closed-loopH∞performance, is reduced to a solution of the parameterized linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) of parameter matrices. With a use of the concept of “multi-convexity”, the solution of the infinite LMIs in the varying-parameter and its rate space is reduced to a solution of the finite LMIs for the vertex set. The proposed controller eliminates the feedback of the varying-parameter rate and fixes its upper boundary so that the conservatism of the controller design is reduced. Experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed design.

Semi-Markov jump linear systems (S-MJLSs) are more general than Markov jump linear systems in modeling practical systems. This paper investigates the H∞ control problem for a class of semi-Markov jump linear systems with time-varying delays. The sojourn-time partition technique is firstly proposed for the delayed stochastic switching system. A sufficient condition for designing the state feedback controller is then established. Moreover, the sufficient condition is expressed as a set of linear matrix inequalities which can be readily solved. A numerical example illustrates the effectiveness of the proposed controller design technique.

The stability analysis and controller design of discrete linear systems with time-varying delay are addressed. Firstly, the uniformly asymptotical stability criterion with adjustable parameter is derived by Lyapunov-Razumikhin approach. Then, the stabilization approaches for linear systems with time delay by state feedback and observer based-on state feedback are also presented. Sufficient conditions for the existence of state feedback gain and the observer gain are derived through the numerical solution of a set of obtained linear matrix inequalities. Compared with methods in the references, the dynamic performance of systems, such as the overshoot and the convergence rate of the response, can be adjusted by changing the adjustable parameter. Lastly, an illustrative example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed.
