Vehicle active safety control was a key technology to avoid serious safety accidents, and accurate acquisition of vehicle states signals was a necessary prerequisite to achieve active vehicle safety control. Based on the purpose, a 3-DOF nonlinear vehicle dynamics model containing constant noise and a nonlinear tire model were established, and several vehicle key states were estimated by a strong tracking central different Kalman filter (CDKF). The conclusion showed that the proposed estimator had higher accuracy and less computation requirement than the CKF, CDKF, and UKF estimators. Numerical simulation and experiments indicated that the proposed vehicle state estimation method not only had higher estimation accuracy but also had higher real-time function.

The performance of vehicle active safety systems relies on accurate vehicle state information. Estimation of vehicle state based on onboard sensors has been popular in research due to technical and cost constraints. Although many experts and scholars have made a lot of research efforts for vehicle state estimation, studies that simultaneously consider the effects of noise uncertainty and model parameter perturbation have rarely been reported. In this paper, a comprehensive scheme using dual Extended H-infinity Kalman Filter (EH∞KF) is proposed to estimate vehicle speed, yaw rate, and sideslip angle. A three-degree-of-freedom vehicle dynamics model is first established. Based on the model, the first EH∞KF estimator is used to identify the mass of the vehicle. Simultaneously, the second EH∞KF estimator uses the result of the first estimator to predict the vehicle speed, yaw rate, and sideslip angle. Finally, simulation tests are carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The test results indicate that the proposed method has higher estimation accuracy than the extended Kalman filter.

Abstract. It is necessary to acquire the accurate information of vehicle driving states for the implementation of automobile active safety control. To this end, this paper proposes an effective co-estimation method based on an unscented Kalman filter (UKF) algorithm to accurately predict the sideslip angle, yaw rate, and longitudinal speed of a ground vehicle. First, a 3 degrees-of-freedom (DOFs) nonlinear vehicle dynamics model is established as the nominal control plant. Then, based on CarSim software, the simulation results of the front steer angle and longitudinal and lateral acceleration are obtained under a variety of working conditions, which are regarded as the pseudo-measured values. Finally, the joint simulation of vehicle state estimation is realized in the MATLAB/Simulink environment by using the pseudo-measured values and UKF algorithm concurrently. The results show that the proposed UKF-based vehicle driving state estimation method is effective and more accurate in different working scenarios compared with the EKF-based estimation method.

In this paper, a novel method based on cubature Kalman filter (CKF) and strong tracking filter (STF) has been proposed for nonlinear state estimation problem. The proposed method is named as strong tracking cubature Kalman filter (STCKF). In the STCKF, a scaling factor derived from STF is added and it can be tuned online to adjust the filtering gain accordingly. Simulation results indicate STCKF outperforms over EKF and CKF in state estimation accuracy.

In this paper, a control oriented rational tire model is developed and incorporated in a two-track vehicle dynamics model for the prospective design of vehicle dynamics controllers. The tire model proposed in this paper is an enhancement over previous rational models which have taken into account only the peaking and saturation behavior disregarding all other force generation characteristics. Simulation results have been conducted to compare the dynamics of a vehicle model equipped with a Magic Formula tire model, a rational tire model available in the literature and the present rational tire model. It has been observed that the proposed tire model results in vehicle responses that closely follow those obtained with the Magic Formula even for extreme driving scenarios conducted on roads with low adhesion coefficient.

The motion state of a quadruped robot in operation changes constantly. Due to the drift caused by the accumulative error, the function of the inertial measurement unit (IMU) will be limited. Even though multi-sensor fusion technology is adopted, the quadruped robot will lose its ability to respond to state changes after a while because the gain tends to be constant. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a strong tracking mixed-degree cubature Kalman filter (STMCKF) method. According to system characteristics of the quadruped robot, this method makes fusion estimation of forward kinematics and IMU track. The combination mode of traditional strong tracking cubature Kalman filter (TSTCKF) and strong tracking is improved through demonstration. A new method for calculating fading factor matrix is proposed, which reduces sampling times from three to one, saving significantly calculation time. At the same time, the state estimation accuracy is improved from the third-degree accuracy of Taylor series expansion to fifth-degree accuracy. The proposed algorithm can automatically switch the working mode according to real-time supervision of the motion state and greatly improve the state estimation performance of quadruped robot system, exhibiting strong robustness and excellent real-time performance. Finally, a comparative study of STMCKF and the extended Kalman filter (EKF) that is commonly used in quadruped robot system is carried out. Results show that the method of STMCKF has high estimation accuracy and reliable ability to cope with sudden changes, without significantly increasing the calculation time, indicating the correctness of the algorithm and its great application value in quadruped robot system.

The particle filter method is a basic tool for inference on nonlinear partially observed Markov process models. Recently, it has been applied to solve constrained nonlinear filtering problems. Incorporating constraints could improve the state estimation performance compared to unconstrained state estimation. This paper introduces an iterative truncated unscented particle filter, which provides a state estimation method with inequality constraints. In this method, the proposal distribution is generated by an iterative unscented Kalman filter that is supplemented with a designed truncation method to satisfy the constraints. The detailed iterative unscented Kalman filter and truncation method is provided and incorporated into the particle filter framework. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is superior to other similar algorithms.

We present the new filters named iterated cubature Kalman filter (ICKF). The ICKF is implemented easily and involves the iterate process for fully exploiting the latest measurement in the measurement update so as to achieve the high accuracy of state estimation We apply the ICKF to state estimation for maneuver reentry vehicle. Simulation results indicate ICKF outperforms over the unscented Kalman filter and square root cubature Kalman filter in state estimation accuracy.

Precision positioner has been significantly developed as the rapid growth of MEMS and IC industries. As for short-stroke position, the loss of friction can be avoided by using flexible hinges. Long-stroke postioner, however, in which moved-to-be mass always stands on the guide-way part, a main source of friction, makes friction unavoidable. Friction estimation is based on certain filters, such as Extended Kalman filter (EKF). However, estimation accuracy of Kalman filter, especially at low-velocity movement, is not very well. To solve this problem, the paper proposes an estimation method based on DD2 to make an accurate estimation. And the result shows this method is promising in real-time friction estimation. After background introduction, in section 2, the relation of EKF and Taylor series and EKF implementation are reviewed and its limitations are noted as well. A briefly introduction to DD2 is given in Section 3 and friction estimation case comparing the simulation results of DD2 estimation with that of EKF described in Section 4, respectively. At last, conclusions are summarized.

This paper proposes a state estimation method for a sampled-data descriptor system by the Kalman filtering method. The sampled-data descriptor system is firstly discretized to obtain a discrete-time nonsingular model. Based on the discretized nonsingular system, a strong tracking unscented Kalman filter (STUKF) algorithm is designed for the state estimation. Then, a defined suboptimal fading factor is proposed and added to the prediction covariance for decreasing the weight of the prior knowledge on the conventional UKF filtering solution. Finally, a simulation example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
