As an extension of cloud computing, edge computing makes up for the deficiency of cloud computing to a certain extent. Edge computing reduces unnecessary data transmission and makes a significant contribution to the real-time and security of the system due to its characteristics that are closer to the terminal equipment. In this paper, we study the problem of attention detection. Attentional concentration during some specific tasks plays a vital role, which indicates the effectiveness and performance of human beings. Evaluation of attentional concentration status is essential in many fields. However, it is hard to define the behavior features related to the variety of tasks and behaviors. To solve this problem, we propose an intelligent edge system for attention concentration analysis, eaCamera, to recognize attentional concentration behaviors of students at the edge. To make objective measurements and save the label cost, eaCamera utilizes AI approaches to find the concentration behaviors based on a behavior analysis model with two perspectives, namely, individual perspective and group perspective. Individual perspective indicates personal behavior changes in time dimension while group perspective indicates the changes of the behavior within a group behavior manner. To evaluate the proposed system, a case study is done within a primary school to evaluate student’s performance in the classroom and offer teaching advice for teachers.

With the explosion of information, devices, and interactions, cloud design on its own cannot handle the flow of data. While the cloud provides us access to compute, storage, and even connectivity that we can access easily and cost-effectively, these centralized resources can create delays and performance issues for devices and information that are far from a centralized public cloud or information center source. Internet of things-connected devices are a transparent use for edge computing architecture. In this chapter, the author discusses the main differences between edge, fog, and cloud computing; pros and cons; and various applications, namely, smart cars and traffic control in transportation scenario, visual and surveillance security, connected vehicle, and smart ID card.

Violence in Islam could be caused by many factors. However, the main problem of the violent occurance is a lack of humanity. This research shows that tasawwuf (sufism) arguably has profoundly contributed to the making of Indonesian Islam which is humanist and inclusive. This research seeks to examine the role of tasawwuf in shaping the humanist character of santri (students of pesantren), in two pesantrens (Islamic boarding school) in Indonesia, which are Pondok Pesantren Krapyak, Yogyakarta, and Pondok Pesantren Annuqayah, Madura. The first object is a representation of pesantren in heterogeneous area in which various ethnic groups, religious and cultural communities live, the latter is a representation of pesantren in homogeneous region where Islam is much more dominant and consists of one ethnic group, speak the same language, and share similar culture. This research focuses on the impacts of tasawwuf teaching in the process of the internalization of santris’ humanist character in these two particular pesantren. The method of this research is an observation and in-depth interview with phenomenological approach. The result shows that the two pesantrens utilize al-Ghazali's tasawwuf literature as the main reference for the teaching process, and it was proven to be a huge part in internalizing humanist character for santris in general. There are two great values that can be learned from the tasawwuf teachings in shaping this humanist character. First, the perception of God. Tasawwuf perceives God as the Mighty and Merciful entity. This perception is originated from the concept of raja’ (hope), tawbah (repentance), and rahmah (mercy). The second is the perception of human beings. Humans are understood as dynamic entities. The concept of su' al-khatimah (bad end to life) and husn al-khatimah (good end to life) plays a vital role in leading santris’ notion in opposing any form of violence.

This paper establishes a competing failure analysis model for complex mechanical system under component failure and performance failure considering degradation. Traditionally, mechanical system is composed by a number of components. Meanwhile, mechanical system has the ability to accomplish its specific performance. Therefore, mechanism may fail because of two kinds of failure modes, the component failure due to degradation (such as component wear) and the performance failure (system couldn't complete performance). The two failure modes compete with each other because as soon as one mode occurs the system just fails. The component will degrade with time as system operates as well as the system performance. In this paper, Brownian motion (BM) with nonlinear drift is used to model the degradation of components based on which component failure is analyzed. The function of performance measurement is built by surrogate and performance failure is analyzed by it at different working circulation. Farlie–Gumbel–Morgenstern (FGM) copula is introduced to describe the dependence. The system reliability is analyzed by FGM copula as well as competing failure probability for each failure mode. Finally, a numerical example and an engineering case study are used to illustrate the proposed model.

The highly automated and scalable nature of cloud computing encourages practitioners and scholars to reconsider software delivery processes. To efficiently leverage the benefits of elastic clouds, applications are typically provisioned and deployed several times a day in different environments and regions. Related procedures must support agile development and deployment of software components as well as the associated management of different versions and configurations. To efficiently utilize auto-scaling mechanisms, the latency produced by provisioning and deployment activities needs to be reduced while ensuring consistency, repeatability and reliability. In this chapter, an integrative process-oriented approach to improve the overall quality and performance of deployment processes is presented. Based on a comprehensive analysis of requirements, the proposed process considers the link between deployment and configuration management as well as tools and organizational aspects. Further, related research challenges and a case study focusing on the Adobe Shared Cloud are presented.

<p>As the arrangement of modern performance art evolves to be more dynamic and fluid, the physical and programmatic flexibility of performance spaces plays a vital role in the long-term sustainability of these facilities. Because of its transformable nature and ability to provide unprecedented flexibility, kinetic architecture is a fast-growing field which integrates architecture with electro-mechanical and structural engineering. Building functionality and performance integration is enhanced by moving various elements to reconfigure a space to the desires of its artists. Retractable roofs have been used in stadiums and other types of facilities to control environmental effects; however, this case study demonstrates how kinetic architecture has been creatively adapted to provide a highly flexible performance and exhibit space.</p><p>This paper provides a brief overview of the design and construction of The Shed at Hudson Yards. This twelve- story high moving structure, weighing 3725 tonnes (8,000,000 pounds), is designed to be moved from its nested position over a fixed building to its deployed position over the adjacent plaza. The Shed’s deployed position creates an enclosed space similar in size and scale to the main concourse of Grand Central Terminal. For additional flexibility, The Shed also features large movable wall sections which can be opened allowing air and pedestrian movement through the plaza space.</p>

Cloud computing and internet of things (IoT) are two disparate technologies that can be united for a common purpose as in an operating profit. The technologies are integral parts of modern sophisticated human life. In the future, it is destined to proliferate boundlessly covering utmost spheres. This chapter describes the challenges faced in adopting the two technologies. Edge computing includes both computing and processing the information are carried at the edge of the IoT devices where vast information gathered instead of relying on the central location. Benefits include avoiding latency issues, improving the performance of the application, and cost effectiveness as it reduces the data volume to be processed in cloud/centralized location. In the advent of IoT devices, edge computing is a vital step in building any of its application which sends and receives enormous information to and from the cloud over the course of operations. Applications such as virtual reality and smart systems are benefited by edge computing as they expect higher rate of response and processing speed. A case study on video surveillance is done in this chapter.

Recent years have witnessed a surge in telerehabilitation and remote healthcare systems blessed by the emerging low-cost wearable devices to monitor biological and biokinematic aspects of human beings. Although such telerehabilitation systems utilise cloud computing features and provide automatic biofeedback and performance evaluation, there are demands for overall optimisation to enable these systems to operate with low battery consumption and low computational power and even with weak or no network connections. This paper proposes a novel multilevel data encoding scheme satisfying these requirements in mobile cloud computing applications, particularly in the field of telerehabilitation. We introduce architecture for telerehabilitation platform utilising the proposed encoding scheme integrated with various types of sensors. The platform is usable not only for patients to experience telerehabilitation services but also for therapists to acquire essential support from analysis oriented decision support system (AODSS) for more thorough analysis and making further decisions on treatment.

Human beings are deeply related to land. Human beings take birth on land, live on land, die on land and mixes with land ultimately. As stated in the holy Quran: ‘We (Allah) created you (human beings) from the soil, we shall make you return to the soil and We shall call you back again from the soil’ (20:55). Human life is surrounded by soil i.e. land. So, land is a highly completed issue of human life involving economic, social, political, cultural and often religious systems. Land administration is thus a critical element and often a pre-condition for peaceful society and sustainable development. In administrating land, Khatian or record of rights plays a vital role to determine the rights and interests of the respective parties as supportive evidence. In this article, discussion is mainly made on the fact that Khatian or record of rights is not a document of title solely but it may be an evidence of title as well as possession. In this study we propose the establishment of theological rules (qawāʿid iʿtiqādiyya) similar to the jurisitic rules (qawāʿid fiqhiyya) which have for centuries been very important to Islamic jurisprudence, and which play a vital role in jurisprudence and uṣūl al-fiqh. The present article takes the second sura of the Qur'an, Sūrat al-Baqara, as a case study, identifying three fundamental principles in this sura: (i) man is honoured (al-insān mukarram), (ii) the Resurrection is a reality (al-baʿth ḥaqq) (iii) belief in all prophets is obligatory (al-īmān bi-kāfat al-anbiyāʾ wājib). These three rules are emphasised and reiterated in many parts of the sura, to a greater extent than any other principle. This study calls for other scholars to consider this proposition and develop it further.
