Violence in Islam could be caused by many factors. However, the main problem of the violent occurance is a lack of humanity. This research shows that tasawwuf (sufism) arguably has profoundly contributed to the making of Indonesian Islam which is humanist and inclusive. This research seeks to examine the role of tasawwuf in shaping the humanist character of santri (students of pesantren), in two pesantrens (Islamic boarding school) in Indonesia, which are Pondok Pesantren Krapyak, Yogyakarta, and Pondok Pesantren Annuqayah, Madura. The first object is a representation of pesantren in heterogeneous area in which various ethnic groups, religious and cultural communities live, the latter is a representation of pesantren in homogeneous region where Islam is much more dominant and consists of one ethnic group, speak the same language, and share similar culture. This research focuses on the impacts of tasawwuf teaching in the process of the internalization of santris’ humanist character in these two particular pesantren. The method of this research is an observation and in-depth interview with phenomenological approach. The result shows that the two pesantrens utilize al-Ghazali's tasawwuf literature as the main reference for the teaching process, and it was proven to be a huge part in internalizing humanist character for santris in general. There are two great values that can be learned from the tasawwuf teachings in shaping this humanist character. First, the perception of God. Tasawwuf perceives God as the Mighty and Merciful entity. This perception is originated from the concept of raja’ (hope), tawbah (repentance), and rahmah (mercy). The second is the perception of human beings. Humans are understood as dynamic entities. The concept of su' al-khatimah (bad end to life) and husn al-khatimah (good end to life) plays a vital role in leading santris’ notion in opposing any form of violence.

Human beings are deeply related to land. Human beings take birth on land, live on land, die on land and mixes with land ultimately. As stated in the holy Quran: ‘We (Allah) created you (human beings) from the soil, we shall make you return to the soil and We shall call you back again from the soil’ (20:55). Human life is surrounded by soil i.e. land. So, land is a highly completed issue of human life involving economic, social, political, cultural and often religious systems. Land administration is thus a critical element and often a pre-condition for peaceful society and sustainable development. In administrating land, Khatian or record of rights plays a vital role to determine the rights and interests of the respective parties as supportive evidence. In this article, discussion is mainly made on the fact that Khatian or record of rights is not a document of title solely but it may be an evidence of title as well as possession. AbstractThis paper examines the role of values in transformations toward sustainability. Values, generally defined as what people deem to matter, are increasingly gaining interest in and outside of academia. For example, sustainability aligns with specific values such as dignity, equality, safety, and harmony for people and nature. However, current approaches to values are mind-matter dualistic, and therefore failing to honor the inherently dynamic relations of socio-ecological systems. Drawing on new materialism, I explore values as part of the relations that make this world and propose to consider values as material-discursive practices. Ethnographic fieldwork was done in 2017 with coffee producers in Burundi who aimed to transform production by caring for the coffee and people that grow it. Based on interviews and participatory observation, I present how values were integral to transforming the relational aspects of coffee production. In this study, values of togetherness, care, dignity, and faith were dominant and were found to reconfigure the socio-ecological system of coffee production. I argue that values are inseparable from, and hence co-productive of, the material world that we experience and play a vital role in sustainability transformations.

The article presents the results of an empirical study of the microdynamics of person perception. Stimulus images of persons from four ethnic groups — Tuvans, Russians, Kabardians and Komi, were presented to three independent groups of subjects to assess specific individual psychological characteristics, with different exposure times — 200, 1000 and 3000 ms. The subjects were Tuvans living in Kyzyl, the Republic of Tuva. For each of the evaluated qualities, the adequacy of the interpersonal assessment was calculated and its relations with such variable studies as the ethnicity and exposure time of the stimulus image were determined. The results obtained indicate a complex, non-linear relationship between the adequacy of interpersonal assessment and exposure time of the stimulus image, as well as the important role of the ethnic group of communicants in the structure of person perception.

The morality / character of the nation's students has collapsed. This is marked by the rise of bullying, child anarchism, mass contests, free sex and so on. Seeing the importance of the role of etiquette in human life, the education world should think more seriously about the concept of planting etiquette in its students, so that the introduction and cultivation of etiquette must begin at an early age. Abstract This article focuses on the multiple violations of labor rights that on-demand delivery workers are facing in Ecuador—as well as their resistance. By presenting a case study of a recent organizational process to raise awareness of workers’ demands, we bring forward the role of women in platform workers organizations. Our reflections are based on data collected and analyzed from a survey of 148 anonymous delivery workers from three Ecuadorian cities; an in-depth interview; and our involvement in the project “Platform Observatory”. The analysis draws upon theoretical, methodological, and analytical frameworks developed by Feminist Economics. Our findings highlight how a migrant woman sustains la lucha—the fight—in a masculinized sector and her struggles to keep the organization alive. Moreover, we contribute to generating an archive of workers’ demands and their organization process in the country.
