Dentigerous cysts are characterised by the formation of cysts containing dental material with a variable level of development. They are the result of a distinct embryological phenomenon. Usually, they are of significant clinical relevance in horses, especially in tandem with ectopic tooth. Contrarily, supernumerary teeth or typical polyodontias usually have limited impact. In this case report, we describe the occurrence of a supernumerary first premolar (Triadan 105). Dissimilar to known scientific literature however was the formation of a cystic structure around the supernumerary tooth. Surgical removal of the dentigerous cyst is discussed, as are the possible causes for the formation of the cystic structure. Based on this case report, we suspect that the formation of a cystic structure may not be limited to atypical polyodontias, as they may also occur in supernumerary teeth.

Introduction Dentigerous cysts are caused by a developmental abnormality derived from the reduced enamel epithelium of the tooth-forming organ. Dentigerous cyst rarely involve impacted supernumerary tooth in anterior maxilla while commonly involve third molar tooth.   Case Report A case of dentigerous cyst in association with supernumerary tooth in a 15-year-old male patient is reported causing right nasal cavity obstruction. The present case report describes the management of a dentigerous cyst by surgical enucleation.

The occurrence of hypodontia (absence of teeth) and hyperdontia (presence of supernumerary teeth) in the same patient is a rarely seen condition in dental practice. Early diagnosis and adequate treatment are very important when addressing this abnormality in the mixed dentition. The approach will depend on the severity of the case and the timing of diagnosis. This paper reports the case of an 11-year-old patient with absence of the permanent maxillary lateral incisors and the mandibular second premolars, with concomitant presence of a supernumerary tooth in the region of the right mandibular lateral incisor. Based on physical and radiographic examination findings, a diagnosis of hypo-hyperdontia was made. The diagnostic and therapeutic management of the case is discussed. The treatment adopted was surgical removal of the supernumerary teeth and esthetic restoration to transform the permanent mandibular canines into lateral incisors.

Dentigerous cyst is a developmental odontogenic cyst associated with unerupted teeth, odontomes or supernumerary teeth. About 95% of dentigerous cysts involve the permanent dentition and only 5% are associated with supernumerary teeth. Supernumerary teeth should be examined very carefully to prevent possible effects on adjacent regular teeth and possible cystic development . Dentigerous cysts are usually slow-growing lesions and may attain a considerable size with minimal or no symptoms. Ameloblastoma, mucoepidermoid carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma have also been reported to arise from the lining epithelium of dentigerous cysts, indicating the pluripotentiality of their cells. Early detection and removal of such cysts is therefore important to reduce potential morbidity. A rare case of a twelve year old boy with two supernumerary teeth, of which one was associated with dentigerous cyst is described here along with the treatment strategy employed for the patient. AbstractSupernumerary teeth in the upper third molar region are relatively common but cases in the lower jaw are rare. In his survey of supernumerary teeth Stafne (1932) saw 131 upper but only 10 lower fourth molars. The following is a report of a single supernumerary tooth in the lower third molar region.

Dentigerous cysts are the second most common odontogenic cysts of the mandible. They may vary in size from 2 cm to more than 10 cm. In the present report, a dentigerous cyst with massive involvement of the right half of the mandible in a young patient is presented. For cosmetic reasons and long term risks these cysts must be treated. Surgical removal is the preferred modality and a submandibular route should be chosen in large lesions. Bony cavities may be decreased in volume by using osteoperiosteal flaps, but there is no need for primary bone grafting, even for large defects.

Supernumerary tooth (ST) are the developmental disorders that could be found in either of the dental arches. Whereas the single ST is quite a common entity, multiple ST are rare, especially when they are not related to any syndromes or disorders. The experience of observing one such case is reported in light of a review of the literature on this condition. This report describes  a case of a non-syndromic 22-year-old female who presented with multiple erupted and impacted ST in the mandibular premolar region. The patient was educated about the complications and consequences associated with ST and was advised for extraction of erupted supernumerary premolars and observation of the impacted ones but the patient denied any treating as ST were not causing any immediate problem. Radiographic assessment plays a pivotal part in early diagnosis and intervention as it aids in avoiding complications associated with ST, especially in non-syndromic cases or when they are asymptomatic. Patients should be counselled regarding the same with proper explanations of all the treatment options.

Introduction: The dentigerous cyst, also called a follicular cyst is an odontogenic cyst that develops in association with crown of an impacted tooth, predominantly in mandibular third molars of young patients. The Odontoma is a ectomesenquimal tumor of unknown origin that are more considered developmental malformations (harmatomas) than benign neoplasms. Occasionally, the dentigerous cyst is associated with odontoma. Objective: The article aims to report a case of surgical treatment of dentigerous cyst associated with compound odontoma and unerupted tooth in anterior region of the mandible. Case report: A male patient, 17 years of age, without systemic changes, was sent to the Center for Dental Specialties of Horizonte, Ceará, Brazil, specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, for diagnosis and treatment of oral lesions visualized after periapical radiographic examination to determine failed eruption of element 42. Observing the periapical radiograph it was possible to visualize radiopaque lesion suggestive of a compound odontoma and a cystic capsule in association with the element 42. A panoramic radiographwas requested and it was planned a surgical removal of odontoma with curettage of bone cavity and removing the cystic capsule and element 42. There were no significant postoperative complications, the suture removal was performed 7 days after surgery where it was possible to observe a good healing, no swelling and no paresthesia. Conclusion: The treatment of choice is surgical excision of the lesions with the tooth associated to the cyst, it should be performed with proper planning, avoiding injury to vital structures and should not be delayed in order to avoid possible occlusion sequelae.
