First record of Monodaeus guinotae Forest, 1976 (Decapoda, Brachyura) in the Sea of Marmara (Turkey) and a discussion about its occurrence

A total of 24 specimens of Monodaeus guinotae Forest, 1976 were obtained in beam-trawl surveys on 8 August 2008, 2 August 2011 and 4 August 2011 at depths of 56, 65 and 40 m, respectively, in the Sea of Marmara. M. guinotae is reported in this study as a first record for the Sea of Marmara and the status of the species is discussed in relation to its closely similar congener, M. couchii (Couch, 1851). Also, possible reasons for its occurrence are investigated according to the effects of pollution and of the various water masses in the Sea of Marmara.

Microlipophrys adriaticus (Steindachner & Kolombatovic, 1883) is an endemic blenny of the Mediterranean Sea. It is also known from the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea. However, unlike other species of combtooth blennies, M. adriaticus is a fish with a limited distribution in Adriatic Sea, especially in the north, where it can be common. We report here the first record of this species from the waters of the Ionian Sea.

Information about a new locality of Melilotoides schischkinii (Vassilcz.) Soják (Fabaceae), a rare endemic to Amur Region, is provided in the article. The habitat of the plant and the status of its population in the region are described. The new locality is remote from the known range of the species, which significantly expands its distribution.

On several occasions, shrimps belonging to a new species of the genus Typhlatya were collected in a cave in the province of Castellón, Spain. This is the first record of the genus in the Iberian Peninsula. The species is described and the validity, distribution, and zoogeography of the genus, as well as the status of the genus Spelaeocaris, are discussed. Former models for the evolution of the genus Typhlatya and its genus group are reviewed, as well as the system of inner classification of the Atyidae and its biogeographical meaning. For the age and evolution of the genus we developed a new model based on vicariance principles that involves further evolution of each species after the disruption of the ancestral range. This allows new estimations for the age of the genus. Accordingly, we suppose that other proposals, such as recent dispersal through the sea, should be disregarded for this genus. The evolutionary development of this species is discussed in the context of the geological history of the area and the world distribution of the genus, the genus group, and the family.

Despite the significance of grape production to the fruit industry in Tennessee (TN), no published information has been available on viruses affecting grapevines in the state. Hence, a survey was conducted during the 2016 and 2017 growing seasons to determine the status of nine major viruses of grapevines in TN vineyards by taking advantage of classical serological assays and confirmatory nucleic acid-based diagnostic approaches. A total of 349 samples from 23 grapevine cultivars mostly displaying viral-like symptoms were collected from 23 commercial vineyards. All samples were assayed by DAS-ELISA for arabis mosaic virus (ArMV), grapevine leafroll-associated virus (GLRaV)-1, GLRaV-2, GLRaV-3, GLRaV-4, grapevine fanleaf virus (GFLV), tobacco ringspot virus (TRSV), and tomato ringspot virus (ToRSV). Selected serologically positive samples were also tested by RT-PCR, followed by Sanger sequencing of the generated amplicons. Additionally, 19 grapevines displaying symptoms characteristic of grapevine red blotch virus (GRBV) were also assayed by PCR followed by confirmatory sequencing-based methods. Collectively, these assays verifiably detected GLRaV-1, GLRaV-2, GLRaV-3, ToRSV, and GRBV in TN vineyards. This is the first record of the presence of these viruses in TN vineyards. ArMV, GLRaV-4, GFLV, and TRSV were not detected. The majority of samples tested positive for a single virus, whereas mixed infections with more than one virus were detected in 37% of samples.

Heterobranch specimens of the genus Roxania collected during the Russian expedition (1894) aboard the Turkish steamship Selânik to the Sea of Marmara are found in the collection of the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Saint Petersburg). One of the aims of the expedition was investigation of the fauna of the Sea of Marmara including its deepest zone to compare with the Black Sea. In 1896 A.A. Ostroumoff published a report on the expedition. Heterobranch mollusks of the genus Roxania are represented in our material by two lots from the first voyage of the expedition to the archipelago of the Prince Islands. The specimens were identified by K.O. Milaschewitsch as Roxania utriculus (Brocchi, 1814) and “Cryptaxis imperforatus n. sp.”, but a description of the last taxon has not been published. In this study, the specimens labeled by Milachewitch as Cryptaxis imperforatus n. sp. were identified as belonging to Roxania monterosatoi Dautzenberg et H. Fischer, 1896. The species is recorded for the Sea of Marmara for the first time; the description and illustrations of the species are presented. Most species of gastropod mollusks collected during the expedition including all samples of Roxania were represented by empty shells. Taxonomical value of the columella morphology in Roxania species is discussed. Based on this character the species of the genus can be divided into two groups: R. utriculus species group (mouth channeled) and R. monterosatoi species group (mouth without a channel). Morphological and molecular phylogenetic investigations are needed to clarify the status of these two groups.

Blattophila peregrinata Carreno, 2017 (Nematoda: Oxyuridomorpha: Thelastomatidae) is proposed as a junior synonym of Suifunema peregrinatum (Carreno, 2017) n. comb., based on the revision of the type material of S. caudelli Chitwood, 1932, the type and only species of the genus. The revision permitted the emendation of some features of the original descriptions, namely the position of the nerve ring at level of the corpus instead the isthmus and the female genital tract didelphic-prodelphic instead didelphic-amphidelphic. The males of S. peregrinatum n. comb. are the only ones known for the genus. Thus, an amended generic diagnosis is given, including information on the males. Both S. peregrinatum n. comb. and S. caudelli differ by having a more slender body, a longer tail, and the vulva farther from the anterior end in the former. S. peregrinatum n. comb. is recorded for the first time from Pycnoscelus indicus Fabricius, 1775 (Blattodea: Blaberidae) from Japan. The specimens from Japan are morphologically consistent with other populations of the species from the USA and the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador. Only some morphometrics vary slightly, but these are within the range of the species. The phylogenetic position of the genus among the family Thelastomatidae is discussed, including sequences of the D2-D3 LSU rDNA of specimens from both the type population (Ohio, USA) and Japan.
