AbstractAlamira peckorum n.sp. is described from a single female from South Africa. Couturiera orientalis n.sp. is described from three females from Malaysia. The latter represents the first record of Alamirinae outside the Afrotropical Region.

Initial Description

A comprehensive material of Afrotropical Sciophila including 262 male specimens of 15 species collected from 7 countries are studied. Two new species—S. geiri sp. n. and S. tchabalensis sp. n.—are described from Madagascar and Cameroon, respectively. New records of the following 13 species are presented: S. digitilenta Søli, 1997 (Uganda), S. fenestralis Søli, 1997 (South Africa), S. kakumensis Søli, 1997 (Cameroon, Uganda), S. kjaerandseni Søli, 1997 (Uganda), S. koundensis Søli, 1997 (Uganda), S. leptosoma Søli, 1997 (Democratic Republic of Congo), S. longistyla Søli, 1997 (South Africa), S. mazumbaiensis Søli, 1997 (Uganda), S. ocreata Philippi, 1865 (France: La Réunion), S. papula Søli, 1997 (Democratic Republic of Congo), S. pinniger Søli, 1997 (South Africa, Cameroon, Uganda, Kenya), S. quadra Søli, 1997 (Democratic Republic of Congo), S. stellata Søli, 1997 (Uganda). The majority of the new records represent the first ones since initial description of the species. S. ocreata is considered to be introduced to the Island of La Réunion. The number of Afrotropical Sciophila species is set at 23.

Two new species of the genus Paragus Latreille, 1804 are described from the Republic of South Africa: Paragus longipilus Tot, Vujić et Radenković sp. nov. and Paragus megacercus Tot, Vujić et Radenković sp. nov. These new species belong to the subgenus Pandasyopthalmus Stuckenberg, 1954a. Paragus longipilus sp. nov. is a member of the P. jozanus group, whereas Paragus megacercus sp. nov. belongs to the P. tibialis group. The taxonomic status of Paragus chalybeatus Hull, 1964 is revised and proposed as synonym of Paragus punctatus Hull, 1949. Additionally, an identification key to males of the South African species of Paragus is provided. Results of the present study confirm a significant level of endemism of Paragus in the Afrotropical Region (12 out of 29).

Two new species of Robsonomyiini (Diptera: Keroplatidae: Macrocerinae), Micrepimera berentiana sp. n. and M. pandastica sp. n., are described from southern Madagascar and northern Vietnam, respectively. This is the first record of this tribe in the Afrotropical region and from mainland Asia. Both the new species differ from M. punctipennis Matile (described from Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean) mainly in wing coloration, structure of antennae, and details of the male terminalia.

The family Ismaridae Thomson, 1858 is reported from the Afrotropical region for the first time. A total of 15 species are recognised, 14 of which are described as new: Ismarusafricanussp. n. from Cameroon, Kenya, Malawi, South Africa; I.apertussp. n. from Kenya; I.bicolorsp. n. from Cameroon, Kenya; I.goodrichisp. n. from Kenya; I.kakamegensissp. n. from Kenya; I.kenyensissp. n. from Kenya; I.laevigatussp. n. from South Africa; I.madagascariensissp. n. from Madagascar; I.minutussp. n. from Kenya, Malawi, Zimbabwe; I.nigrofasciatussp. n. from Malawi, Uganda; I.notaulicussp. n. from Kenya; I.rawlinsisp. n. from Kenya, Malawi; I.steinerisp. n. from Madagascar; I.watshamisp. n. from Botswana, Malawi, South Africa, Zimbabwe. Six new species of Docosia Winnertz are described from Central Asia and their terminalia illustrated, viz. Docosia bartaki sp. nov. (Uzbekistan), D. blagoderovi sp. nov. (Uzbekistan), D. chimganica sp. nov. (Uzbekistan), D. distributa sp. nov. (Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan), D. koyentagi sp. nov. (Turkmenistan) and D. turkmenica sp. nov. (Turkmenistan). A new record of D. selini Kurina from Uzbekistan and a key to Docosia species in Central Asia are provided. The number of Docosia species in Central Asia now totals 10. Docosia gilvipes (Haliday in Walker) is newly found in South Africa representing the first record of the genus from the Afrotropical region.

Two New Species

An illustrated key is provided to distinguish the 34 species of genus Thrips reported from the Afrotropical Region, including La Réunion. Seven new synonyms are established as a result of checking type specimens; two new species are described, T. solari from Nigeria and T. kurahashii from South Africa; and the new combination Craspedothrips ghesquierei (Priesner) is established for a species described in Taeniothrips. A diagnosis is given for each species with an indication of the known distribution.

Two New Species

The asilid genus Laphyctis Loew, 1858 is revised. The genus is restricted to the Afrotropical Region where it has been confused with the more widely distributed Laphystia Loew, 1847, which currently has no Afrotropical representatives. Three previously described species are recognised: Laphyctisgigantella (Loew, 1852), type of the genus, Laphyctisargenteofasciata (Engel, 1929), reinstated from the synonymy of L.gigantella, and Laphyctisorichalcea (Lindner, 1973). Two new species are described, Laphyctiseremia sp. n. from Namibia and Laphyctisiota sp. n. from South Africa. The genus has a wide distribution ranging from northern Kenya to eastern South Africa and to western Namibia. Species are associated with dry, sandy habitats.

The genus Astichus Förster (Eulophidae: Entiinae) is recorded for the first time from sub-Saharan Africa and four newspecies are described from South Africa: A. micans n. sp., A. silvani n. sp., A. gracilis n. sp. and A. naiadis n. sp. .Astichusspecies are known as parasitoids of Ciidae (Coleoptera) tunnelling and living in bracket fungi. The South African speciesemerged together with Ciidae from a variety of bracket fungi from many localities in the region. They are easily separatedfrom known Astichus species from other regions in the world by their distinctive colour and patterning. A key to the SouthAfrican Astichus species, distribution maps, and notes on biology are included, as well as identifications of Ciidae and bracket fungus specimens encountered in the study.

Brachyzapus Gauld & Dubois, 2006 is a small genus belonging to the Polysphincta genus-group of the subfamily Pimplinae, with nine known species worldwide (Uchida & Momoi, 1958; Yu et al., 2012; Pham et al., 2012). The genus can be recognized by twisted mandibles, a very weakly convex and rather long clypeus with quite well-defined angulation laterally, elongate lower face, sparse pubescence on the eyes, hind coxal cavities separated from the metasoma insertion by a very strong sclerotized bridge, and the lack of a basal lobe on the ovipositor (Gauld & Dubois, 2006).

Two new species of the genus Leluthia (Leluthia) from Yemen, L. (L.) abnormis sp. nov. and L. (L.) brevitergum sp. nov., are described and illustrated. This is the first record of the genus Leluthia Cameron, 1887 in the Afrotropical Region.
