Piper Linnaeus (1753:28) is a Pantropical genus that comprises about 2000 species (Quijano-Abril et al. 2006). This genus is economically important because is widely used as spice, as P. nigrum Linnaeus (1753:28) (black pepper) and as a medicinal plant across the world. Babu et al. (1993) described a new species and a variety to the genus from Southern India: Piper sugandhi Ravindran, Babu & Naik (1993:27) and P. sugandhi var. brevipilis Ravindran, Babu & Naik (1993:27). The authors provided diagnosis for the new species and variety, and compared it with the related taxa. However, they have indicated two gatherings as holotypes (a male and a female specimen) and according to Arts. 8.1 and 40.1 of the ICN these two names are not validly published (McNeill et al. 2012).

We provide the first report of the subfamily Laccophilinae Gistel, 1848 from Baltic amber, based on a female specimen collected in Russia, Kaliningrad Region, Yantarnii (Jantarny) mine. This specimen represents a new species and could be assigned to the extant genus Japanolaccophilus Satô, 1972. To date this genus was monotypic with one species in Japan. The new species is here described as †J. beatificus sp. n. and compared with the extant Japanolaccophilus niponensis (Kamiya, 1939). We also provide a modified key to the Laccophilinae genera of the World, as we found minor errors or ambiguities in recent keys.

Clypeocaenis malzacheri sp. nov. is described from the Kottakudi River in southern India, based on larvae and eggs. Clypeocaenis malzacheri sp. nov. appears to be closely related to C. bisetosa Soldán. The new species is distinguished from this species and other congeners based on the structure of the frons; the structure, setation, and maculation of legs; the shape and orientation of the abdominal tergum II projection; and by the shape and denticulation of abdominal sternum IX. Updated couplets for an identification key to Clypeocaenis larvae in the Indomalayan region are provided. The total number of Clypeocaenis species is thereby increased to twelve in the world and seven in India.

The genus Acrozangis Breddin, 1900 is revised from India, with description of a new species, Acrozangis dakshinae sp. nov. from southern India. As the holotype female specimen of the type species of Acrozangis, Acrozangis semiprasina Breddin, 1900, is destroyed, the male specimen assigned to A. semiprasina by Breddin (1900) has been designated as the neotype. Though Acrozangis superficially resembles the genera Cuspicona or Glaucias, the very distinct morphological characters such as the resting of the apex of basal abdominal tubercle on a groove of the posterior apex of sternal carina or in other words the apex of basal abdominal tubercle concealed by the posterior apex of metasternal carina and well developed mesosternal carina, lamellate anteriorly and not surpassing forecoxae make this genus unique. A. semiprasina Breddin, 1900 and C. antica Vollenhoven, 1868 were found to be subjective synonyms. The species C. antica Vollenhoven, 1868 is not congeneric to species of Cuspicona Dallas and hence transferred from Cuspicona to Acrozangis and proposed A. antica comb. nov. A lectotype for Cuspicona antica Vollenhoven, 1868 is also designated. A. semiprasina is proposed as a new synonymy to A. antica. The morphological characters support the placement of A. antica in the tribe Nezarini rather than in the Rhynchocorini (where Cuspicona is placed) are discussed.

A new species list of plants and lichens of Russia and neighboring countries has been developed for Turboveg for Windows, the program, intended for storage and management of phytosociological data (relevés), is widely used all around the world (Hennekens, Schaminée, 2001; Hennekens, 2015). The species list is built upon the database of the Russian website Plantarium (Plantarium…: [site]), which contains a species atlas and illustrated an online Handbook of plants and lichens. The nomenclature used on Plantarium was originally based on the following issues: vascular plants — S. K. Cherepanov (1995) with additions; mosses — «Flora of mosses of Russia» (Proect...: [site]); liverworts and hornworts — A. D. Potemkin and E. V. Sofronova (2009); lichens — «Spisok…» G. P. Urbanavichyus ed. (2010); other sources (Plantarium...: [site]). The new species list, currently the most comprehensive in Turboveg format for Russia, has 89 501 entries, including 4627 genus taxa compare to the old one with 32 020 entries (taxa) and only 253 synonyms. There are 84 805 species and subspecies taxa in the list, 37 760 (44.7 %) of which are accepted, while the others are synonyms. Their distribution by groups of organisms and divisions are shown in Table. A large number of synonyms in the new list and its adaptation to work with the Russian literature will greatly facilitate the entry of old relevé data. The ways of making new list, its structure as well as the possibilities of checking taxonomic lists on Internet resources are considered. A new species of the tribe Hemigasterini, Platymystax xalapa sp. nov., is described from the Mexican State of Veracruz. It is the first species of the genus described from the New World. A preliminary identification key to all known seven species of Platymystax of the world fauna is provided.

Parapachymorpha is one of eight genera within the tribe Medaurini of subfamily Clitumninae (Phasmatidae). It was established by Brunner von Wattenwyl (1893), with the type species Parapachymorpha nigra by subsequent designation of Kirby (1904), from Myanmar. Species of this genus are widely distributed in oriental tropics (Laos, China, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam and Cambodia), with only 11 known species in the world (Brock et al. 2018, Ho 2017). Species of the genus Parapachymorpha can be recognized by following characters (Brunner von Wattenwyl 1893;1907, Henmemann & Conle 2008, Ho 2017): 1) body robust in female and slender in male with long leg in relation to the length; 2) body surface of female granulose or spinose; 3) mesonotum of female more and less expanded posteriorly; 4) abdominal tergites lacking expanded prostero–lateral angles in both sexes; 5) laminal supraanalis undeveloped in female; 6) semi–tergite of male irregularly rectangular, with an additional finger­–like ventro–apical appendix on the lower margin and reduced or absent; 7) egg capsule oval to oblong and covered with a raised net–like structure in lateral view; 8) micropylar plate oval; 9) operculum concave or convex. In the present study, we describe additional species, Parapachymorpha minuta sp. nov. from Laos, with photographs of both sexes of adults and egg.

Embolemidae is a cosmopolitan but species-poor group of chrysidoid wasps with a scarce fossil record, despite a long evolutionary history since at least the Early Cretaceous. Here, the new species, Ampulicomorpha quesnoyensis sp. nov., is illustrated and described based on a single female found in Early Eocene amber of Oise (France). The new species is compared with the three other known fossil species of the genus, and a key to all fossil species of Ampulicomorpha is provided. This is the third European fossil species of Ampulicomorpha, which suggests that the genus was once well established in Western Europe while it is more widely distributed in the Eastern Palaearctic region today. A list of all fossil and extant Embolemidae of the world, as well as a map of their geographical distribution map, are provided.

We here describe Sitana attenboroughii sp. nov., a new species of fan-throated lizard of the genus Sitana Cuvier, 1829 from coastal Kerala in southern India. The new species morphologically is closer to Sitana visiri Deepak, 2016 (in Deepak et al. 2016a), however, differs in having higher numbers of ventral scales and a comparatively short but richly colored dewlap. Genetically the new species shows affinity to Sitana marudhamneydhal Deepak, Khandekar, Varma & Chaitanya, 2016 from which it differs in an uncorrected pairwise sequence divergence of 2.2% for a fragment of mitochondrial Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide dehydrogenase (NADH) subunit 2 gene.
