We have described and illustrated a new species, Bulbophyllum linzhiense (Malaxideae, Epidendroideae, Orchidaceae), from Tibet Autonomous Region in southwest China. The size and overall floral morphology of the new species are similar to those of B. rubrolabellum, a species endemic to Taiwan island on the southeast coast of China, but is different by apart pseudobulbs, lower flowers, ovate-lanceolate bracts, longer pedicel and ovary, yellow-green flower, and lanceolate lateral sepals. A cladistic analysis based on the nuclear (ITS) and plastid (matK, trnL-F, and atpI-atpH) DNA sequences supported the new species is sister to B. rubrolabellum.

We have described and illustrated a new species, Bulbophyllum yunxiaoense (Malaxideae, Epidendroideae, Orchidaceae), from Fujian Province in southeast China. The size and overall floral morphology of the new species are similar to those of Bulbophyllum pingtungense, a species endemic to Taiwan Island on the southeast coast of China and its closest relative according to a cladistic analysis of nuclear (ITS) and plastid (matK, trnL-F, and atpI-atpH) DNA sequences. However, B. yunxiaoense is distinguishable from B. pingtungense by flower colour, shorter scape, and longer lateral sepal.

Ottelia fengshanensis, a new species (Hydrocharitaceae) from southwest China is here described and illustrated. Comparing its morphological features to putative close relatives O. guanyangensis, it has 3–4 flowers (vs. 2–5) each spathe, hexagonal-cylindric fruit, white styles (vs. yellow), green leaves (vs. dark green) and fruit tiny winged (vs. winged obviously). Molecular phylogenetic investigation of four DNA sequences (ITS, rbcL, trnK5’ intron and trnS-trnG) and the Poisson Tree Processes model for species delimitation (PTP) analysis, further resolves O. fengshanensis as a new species that is close to O. guanyangensis with distinct support.

Impatiens bullatisepala (Balsaminaceae), a new species supported by morphological and phylogenetic evidence from Fanjing Mountain, Guizhou province in China, is described here. It is morphologically similar to I. davidii but can be distinguished by its dorsally ridged lateral sepals with sunk reticulate veins and bullate projections on abaxial surface, 2–2.5 cm deep saccate lower sepal with ca. 0.8 cm long narrowly triangular tip at the mouth, and broadly ovate dorsal petal. Phylogenetic analyses of a combined dataset of nuclear ITS and plastid atpB-rbcL intergenic spacer DNA sequences furtherly confirmed its novelty.

Impatiens tanintharyiensis Ruchisansakun, Suksathan & Saw-Lwin from the Tanintharyi region of Southern Myanmar is described and illustrated as a new species. The presence of connate lateral united petals and a four-locular ovary, as well as results of molecular phylogenetic analyses of nuclear ITS and plastid atpB-rbcL spacer DNA sequences, suggest that the new species is a member of Impatiens section Semeiocardium (Zoll.) S.X. Yu & Wei Wang. The new species is morphologically most similar to I. spectabilis Triboun & Suksathan, but can be distinguished by its asymmetric flowers, saccate-bucciniform lower sepal, and shorter, slightly incurved spur. Floral traits, including the presence of a large floral chamber with a wide entrance, are consistent with the bee-pollination syndrome in Impatiens. Since I. tanintharyiensis is only known from two small populations, its conservation status is assessed as Endangered.

A distinctive, previously undescribed species of Epimedium (Berberidaceae), which we propose naming E. tianmenshanensis, was found during a floristic survey in Hunan, China. It is similar to E. baojingense and E. franchetii, but has smaller flowers and petals with a short, blunt spur. We determined the phylogenetic position of the new species using DNA sequences of nuclear ITS and two chloroplast regions (atpB-rbcL intergenic spacer and matK). Molecular evidence indicates that E. tianmenshanensis occupies a distinct group related to E. baojingense.

Two new species of the genus Scaphidium Olivier from Xizang (Tibet Autonomous Region), China are described: 1) S. rhopaliparamerosum sp. nov. [棒侧叶出尾蕈甲], distinguished by four dark red big fasciae on apical 1/3 and basal 1/3 parts of elytra; and 2) S. russipenne sp. nov. [绛鞘出尾蕈甲], distinguished by the unified brownish red colour on elytra. For both new species, we provide descriptions and colour plates of normal light photos for the diagnostic characters: habitus in both dorsal and ventral views, an antenna, a prefemur, and the detailed structures of the aedeagus (if male available). Additionally, a new spot pattern of S. formosanum Pic is reported from Yunnan.

A new species of the perlodid genus, Isoperla Banks, I. sejila sp. nov., is described and illustrated from the Tibet Autonomous Region of southeastern China. The everted aedeagus of the male is described and the relationships with other species of this genus known from China are discussed.

Multiple DNA sequences from plastid (trnL–F region and rbcL) as well as nuclear (ITS and 26S rDNA) genomes were used to infer the phylogeny of the Cuscuta californica complex. This group is currently circumscribed to include nine species distributed mostly in western North America. Four well-supported lineages have been revealed within this complex. The first lineage includes the controversial C. californica s. l., an assemblage of taxa characterized by their lack of infrastaminal scales; the second lineage consists of a single species, C. subinclusa, with short fimbriate scales. The third lineage groups C. howelliana, C. salina, and C. suksdorfii, with scales that exhibit a reduction trend, while the forth includes C. decipiens and a new species from New Mexico and trans-Pecos Texas, C. draconella, both with well-developed infrastaminal scales. Stereo, compound, and scanning electron microscopy were used to investigate the new species and compare it with C. decipiens, its closest relative, as well as to update the taxonomic treatment of C. californica s. l. Cuscuta decipiens, in its original delimitation, is polyphyletic and was thus recircumscribed. In contrast to previous taxonomic treatments of C. californica s. l., phylogenetic relationships in conjunction with morphological data support the delimitation of three species: C. brachycalyx, C. californica, and C. occidentalis.

Silene section Cryptoneurae (Caryophyllaceae) and S. ertekinii from Western Antalya, Turkey, are described as new taxa on the basis of morphological and molecular investigations. Nuclear ITS and chloroplast rps16 DNA sequences clearly support the recognition of the new section. Inclusiveness and characterization of the new section is discussed and described, and a key for the included species is provided. Diagnostic characters of the new species S. ertekinii are given and its relation to the other species of the section is discussed.
