A new hypogeous species, Choiromyces cerebriformis sp. nov. is described and illustrated from Yunnan province, China. Both morphological evidence and sequence analyses of the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2) support the species as new to science. C. cerebriformis differs from other Choiromyces species in having ascomata with larger lobes and light orange-brown gleba, and globose ascospores with short stick-like sparse spines ornamentation. Morphological differences and genetic distances with the similar species C. helanshanensis and C. alveolatus are discussed. A phenotypic key including related species is provided.

A new species of Trogia (Marasmiaceae, Basidiomycota) is described from West Bengal, India. Analysis of the molecular sequence (nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region) data suggests that T. benghalesis is phylogenetically distinct from its closely related species. Comprehensive description based on macro- and microscopic characters, photographs and comparisons with morphologically similar and phylogenetically related species are provided.

Hericium cirrhatum, a widespread but locally rare tooth fungus is reported for the first time from Pakistan. This species is characterized by white to cream semicircular basidiomata (usually arranged in tiers) with a granular to slightly spiny sterile upper surface, a fertile under surface with 10–15 mm long pointed spines, and ellipsoid to subglobose basidiospores. Morphological characters and DNA sequence analyses inferred from the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region (nrITS) confirm the identity of the taxon.

Four specimens of Phallus were collected during surveys in a Pinus armandii forest in Baoshan, Yunnan Province, China. Macro- and micro-characteristics, together with Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) sequence data, showed that the four specimens belong to a new species, here named Phallus haitangensis. The ITS phylogenetic analyses, morphological descriptions, color photographs, and line drawings are provided, and compared with closely related species in the genus.

Inocybe griseorubida sp. nov. is described from Kerala State, India. A comprehensive description, photographs, and comparisons with phenetically similar species are provided. The nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region (ITS), a portion of the nuclear ribosomal large subunit (nLSU) and a portion of the nuclear second-largest subunit of RNA polymerase II (rpb2) gene of this species were sequenced and analyzed. Phylogenetic analysis of rpb2 sequences confirmed both the novelty of the species and its placement within the Pseudosperma clade.

Five yeast strains belonging to the genus Cryptococcus Vuillemin were isolated from steppe plants and turf collected in the Prioksko-terrasny biosphere reserve (Moscow region, Russia). Sequence analyses of the D1/D2 domains of the 26S rDNA and of the internal transcribed spacer region revealed that these yeast strains and strain CBS 8016 have almost identical sequences and belong to the Holtermannia clade of the Tremellomycetidae (Basidiomycota, Hymenomycetes). A novel species named Cryptococcus festucosus (type strain VKM Y-2930) is proposed to accommodate these strains. Physiological characteristics and mycocin sensitivity patterns distinguishing Cryptococcus festucosus from the other species of this clade are presented.Key words: mycocin sensitivity, rDNA sequencing, Cryptococcus, Holtermannia.

A novel species, Distoseptispora longispora, from submerged wood in Yunnan Province, China, is described and illustrated. The fungus is characterized by macronematous, mononematous, septate conidiophores with monoblastic, integrated, determinate, terminal conidiogenous cells that produce acrogenous, solitary, obclavate, elongated, distoseptate conidia. SSU-ITS-LSU sequence analyses were used to infer the phylogenetic relationship between D. longispora and related species. Both molecular analyses and morphological data well support D. longispora as an independent taxon. A key to Distoseptispora species is provided.

Four new species of Entoloma s.l. subgenus Pouzarella (Entoloma wayanadense, E. peechiense, E. silvanum, and E. tropicum) collected from different parts of Kerala State, India are documented here. Descriptions, photographs and comparisons with phenetically similar species are provided. Sequences of the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) and the nuclear ribosomal large subunit (nrLSU) region of the new species were obtained and used in BLASTn searches and pairwise sequence alignment to support the morphological data and the novelty of the species. A key to the species of Entoloma subg. Pouzarella known from Kerala is provided.

Molecular identification via Internal Transcribed Spacer region (nrDNA-ITS) sequencing of Fusarium spp. isolates from wheat originated from Stara Zagora region, were performed for the first time in Bulgaria. А total of 60 wheat samples (Triticum aestivum) were morphologically identified at the genus level as Fusarium spp. in advance. The rDNA-ITS region of all isolates was successfully amplified and the PCR products obtained were directly sequenced. After a comparison of detected sequences with NCBI database, members of three different fungal genera (Fusarium, Chaetomium, and Alternaria) were identified. Among Fusarium isolates, the F. tricinctum was prevailing, followed by F. poae. A total of three isolate F. proliferatum, F. graminearum and F. equiseti were presented with a single probe. The lowest genetic distance (0.004) was detected between F. tricinctum isolates. On the base of genetic distances, fungal isolates were grouped in two main clusters – one comprising F. tricinctum isolates and F. proliferatum, and second including F. equiseti, F. graminearum and F. poae. It could be concluded that the rDNA-ITS genome region of the genus Fusarium may be used as a suitable marker of early detection, accurate and reliable identification of Fusarium spp. contamination of wheat. The timely and accurate information would assist in the selection of appropriate approaches for control of fusarium infections and possible mycotoxins contamination of agricultural production.

A new species of Russula (Russulaceae, Basidiomycota) is described from Darjeeling Hill, Eastern Himalaya, India. Morphological and molecular (nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region) sequence data assign the present species to the subgen. Incrustatula Romagn., sect. Lilaceinae (Melzer & Zvára) Konrad & Joss. and subsect. Lilaceinae Melzer & Zvára. Comprehensive description, photographs and comparisons with morphologically similar and phylogenetically related species are provided.
