New taxa, distribution and biological records of Afrotropical Coraebini Bedel, 1921 (Coleoptera: Buprestidae: Agrilinae)

One new genus and three new species of southern African Coraebini are proposed. Ethiopoeus gen. nov. is described for Meliboeus croesus Obenberger, 1931, yielding E. croesus, comb. nov. The fifth species of Paradorella, P. natalensis sp. nov. is described from South Africa, Kwazulu-Natal, and diagnosed in a key to the genus. The second known species of Pseudokerremansia, P. zuluensis sp. nov. is described from South Africa, Kwazulu-Natal and contrasted with P. arcuata (Péringuey, 1908). The fifth known species of Strandietta, S. austroafricana sp. nov. is described from Entabeni Forest Reserve in South Africa, with a key to the genus. Additional distribution and host records are given for species of Anodontodora Obenberger, 1931, Asymades Kerremans, 1893, Chalcophlocteis Obenberger, 1924, Discoderoides Théry, 1936, Paradorella Obenberger, 1923 and Strandietta Obenberger, 1931. Lectotypes are designated for Chalcophlocteis hauseri Obenberger, 1931 and Meliboeus croesus Obenberger, 1931.

Ingcainyenzane irhiniensis n. gen., n. sp. and Ingcainyenzane nolukhanyoensis n. gen., n. sp. are described from Eastern Cape and Ingcainyenzane umgeniensis n. gen., n. sp. is described from KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Notes on its biology of the species and a key to species of the genus are also provided.

AbstractSiculaphis vittoriensis gen.nov., sp.nov., Myzocallis (Hoplocallis) microsiphon sp.nov., and M. (Agrioaphis) cocciferina sp.nov. are described. The new taxa have a Mediterranean distribution, and Quercus calliprinos Webb is their main host. Accounts are given of their morphology, taxonomic position, and ecology. A key is presented for the four species in the subgenus Hoplocallis.

The African hygropetric beetle genus Coelometopon Janssens is revised, and Oomtelecopon new genus is described, based on the study of 1,884 specimens. The genus Coelometopon is redescribed, and redescriptions are provided for C. cavifrons Janssens, C. leleupi Janssens, C. madidum Janssens, and C. mussardi Janssens. Eighteen new species of Coelometopon and two new species of Oomtelecopon are described. The two genera are placed in the Coelometoponini, new tribe, of the subfamily Prosthetopinae. A key to the two genera and 24 known species is given. High resolution digital images of all holotypes are presented (online version in color), the male genitalia are illustrated, and geographic distributions are mapped. Structural details of a representative species, C. granulatum, are illustrated with scanning electron micrographs. Members of Coelometopon are restricted to hygropetric microhabitats, being found on vertical or near vertical rock surfaces which have a thin film of flowing water, such as rock seeps and splash zones of waterfalls and cascades. Members of Oomtelecopon have been collected from algae in seeps, from wet cliff faces, and by sifting marsh shore litter. New species of Coelometopon are: C. angulatum (Lesotho: Mamathes, 5 mi. E. Tayateyaneng), C. balfourbrownei (South Africa: Cape Prov., George District, near George), C. blinkwater (South Africa: Cape Prov., Table Mountain, Blinkwater ravine), C. brincki (Lesotho: Mamathes, 5 mi. All polymastiid sponges displaying ornamented exotyles are reviewed and their morphological affinities are reconsidered. The study embraces all known species ofProteleia,Sphaerotylus,TrachyteleiaandTylexocladusas well as several species ofPolymastia. A new genus,Koltunia, is established for the Antarctic speciesProteleia burtonibased on the unique shape of distal ornamentations of its giant exotyles and on the absence of a spicule palisade in its cortex, a rare feature among the polymastiids. Three new species ofSphaerotylusare described –S. renoufifrom the British Isles,S. strobilisfrom South Africa andS. tjalfeifrom West Greenland. Transfer of one New Zealand species fromPolymastiatoProteleiaand of one Chilean species fromPolymastiatoSphaerotylusis proposed. The present study provides a background for future integrative phylogenetic analyses based on comprehensive molecular and morphological datasets which should reveal the natural relationships between the polymastiid taxa.

We describe a new family and genus of stoloniferous octocorals (Alcyonacea) and a new genus of Clavulariidae from material collected in South Africa in 2008. Arulidae, fam. nov., is characterised by polyps whose tentacles are fused proximally to form an expanded oral membrane, and sclerites of a type (‘table-radiates’) that has not been recorded previously in Octocorallia. One species, Arula petunia, gen. nov., sp. nov., is described, and the possible existence of congeners elsewhere in the Indo-Pacific is discussed. Inconstantia, gen. nov., is erected for three new species of Clavulariidae that have no or only weak anthocodial armature. I. pannucea, sp. nov., and I. procera, sp. nov., both have tall, cylindrical calyces, while I. exigua, sp. nov., has low, retractile calyces. Despite these morphological differences that would normally place them in different subfamilies, all three species are nearly identical genetically. We also describe Cornularia pabloi, sp. nov., a new species of Cornulariidae from South Africa, and discuss an unidentified species of Carijoa with an unusual colony growth form. A molecular phylogenetic analysis of 130 octocoral taxa, including 15 genera of stoloniferans, supports the distinctions of these new taxa from existing families and genera, and highlights the polyphyletic distribution of the taxa attributed to family Clavulariidae.

A new genus, Sigmaboilus gen. nov., is established and attributed to Aboilinae (Insecta, Orthoptera, Prophalangopsidae). It includes three new species, Sigmaboilus gorochovi sp. nov., S. sinensis sp. nov., and S. longus sp. nov., from the Middle Jurassic of Daohugou in Inner Mongolia, China, and is distinguished from other genera within Aboilinae by the remarkably long C vein in the tegmen.

The following new taxa are described from the Philippines: Mioscarta nubisa Crispolon & Soulier-Perkins sp. nov., M. translucida Crispolon & Yap sp. nov. and Trigonoschema Crispolon & Soulier-Perkins gen. nov. with three new species: T. manoborum Crispolon & Soulier-Perkins sp. nov. (as type species), T. negrosensis Crispolon & Yap sp. nov and T. rubercella Crispolon & Guilbert sp. nov. Trigonoschema pallida (Lallemand, 1927) comb. nov. is transferred from Mioscarta Breddin, 1901. Descriptions of male genitalia are illustrated and keys to species of Philippine Mioscarta and Trigonoschema gen. nov. are provided. Although phylogenetic results confirm the monophyly of all genera and Trigonoschema being a distinct genus from Mioscarta, relationships between genera remain uncertain. A checklist of the genera and species of Cercopidae found in the Philippines is included.

A small group Marginellidae species were moved between genera several times by different authors, described as Marginella, sometimes called Glabella, classified under Dentimargo, and also reclassified as being Eratoidea species. This group of very small Marginellidae has their own unique shell characteristics within the family, and are described here within a new genus: Africosta. Four known species are discussed along with the description of two new species from KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa within the new genus.

The genus Sibuyanella Obenberger, 1942, is resurrected from synonymy under Obenbergerula Strand, 1932 and S. boudanti, sp. nov. from Bohol Island, and S. mimica, sp. nov. from Boac and Mindoro islands, are described. A second species of Philippscelus Bellamy, 1998, P. panayensis, sp. nov. is described from Panay Island, Philippines. Lumawigia gibbicephala, gen. & sp. nov. is described from Luzon Island. Three new species of Brachycoraebus Kerremans, 1903: B. mindanaoensis, B. basilanensis and B. minutus, are described. New distribution records are given for Coraebosoma manilense Obenberger, 1923 and C. samarense Bellamy, 1990. Two justified emendations: Philippscelus Bellamy, 1998 and Amorphosomatina Majer, 2000 are given. A new genus of Trachyphloeini, Epistomius gen. nov. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Entiminae) living in forest litter in the eastern part of South Africa is described, illustrated and its position in the subfamily Entiminae is discussed. Seven new species are described: E. bulirschi sp. nov. (KwaZulu-Natal), E. colonnellii sp. nov. (Eastern Cape), E. janaki sp. nov. (KwaZulu-Natal), E. natalensis sp. nov. (KwaZulu-Natal), E. ngomiensis sp. nov. (KwaZulu-Natal), E. niger sp. nov. (KwaZulu-Natal), and E. wanati sp. nov. (Mpumalanga), and included in this new genus. All species are keyed and illustrated.
