World catalogue of the family Callirhipidae (Coleoptera: Elateriformia), with nomenclatural notes

The elateriform family Callirhipidae Emden, 1924 is catalogued. The family contains 14 genus-group taxa, of which 10 are currently considered as valid and four as synonyms. The family contains 214 available species-group names, of which 175 represent currently valid species and subspecies, and 39 are synonyms. For each taxon, all references known to the author are listed. For species-group taxa, type locality, type material, current status and known distribution are given. Lists of unavailable names and taxa excluded from the family Callirhipidae are presented. A systematic checklist of the family is appended. A worldwide checklist is provided for the family Endomychidae (Coleoptera: Cucujoidea). An updated subfamilial classification is presented, based on recent higher-level phylogenetic analyses and incorporating many recently described taxa. At present, Endomychidae contains 1782 valid species and subspecies in 130 genera organized into 12 subfamilies. Two new synonyms are recognized: Symbiotes latus Redtenbacher, 1849 = Symbiotes latus var. roberti Falcoz & Roman, 1930 syn. nov.; and Cholovocerida Belon, 1884 = Displotera Reitter, 1887b syn. nov. Two new combinations are proposed: Cholovocerida ecitonis (Wasmann, 1890) for Coluocera ecitonis Wasmann, 1890 comb. nov.; and Cholovocerida maderae (Wollaston, 1854) for Cholovocera maderae Wollaston, 1854 comb. nov. Loeblia ceylanica Dajoz, 1972a is here designated as the type species for Loeblia Dajoz, 1972a, and Rhymbus hemisphaericus Gerstaecker, 1858 is designated as the type species for Rhymbus Gerstaecker, 1858. Nomen nudum status is proposed for Mycetaea tafilaletica Smirnoff, 1957. Thirty-two species originally described under Corynomalus Chevrolat, 1836 and subsequently transferred to Amphix Laporte, 1840, have been returned to Corynomalus. Known fossil taxa are summarized.

The new genus Huangilene Volynkin & Černý, gen. n. is erected for the Miltochrista alikangiae (Strand, 1917) species-group with Lyclene kepica Dubatolov & Bucsek, 2013 as the type species. Three new species are described: H. odontotilepida Volynkin & Černý, sp. n. (Thailand, Cambodia, Laos), H. kutzscheri Volynkin & Černý, sp. n. (continental China and Taiwan Isl.) and H. apoklinousa Volynkin & Černý, sp. n. (Vietnam). Four new combinations are established: Huangilene kepica (Dubatolov & Bucsek, 2013), comb. n., H. pseudolutara (N. Singh & Kirti, 2016), comb. n., H. alikangiae alikangiae (Strand, 1917), comb. n. H. alikangiae intermedia (Marumo, 1923), comb. n. The lectotype is designated for Asura obsoleta Form alikangiae Strand, 1917, the species’ type locality is fixed as “Karapin” (Taiwan, Chiayi County, Chaoliping).

The family Plectopylidae is divided into two subfamilies: Sinicolinae subfam. nov. (included extant genera: Gudeodiscus Páll-Gergely, 2013, Endothyrella Zilch, 1959, Halongella Páll-Gergely, 2015, Sicradiscus Páll-Gergely, 2013, Sinicola Gude, 1899) and Plectopylinae Möllendorff, 1898 (included genera: Chersaecia Gude, 1899, Hunyadiscus Páll-Gergely, 2016, Naggsia Páll-Gergely & Muratov, 2016, Plectopylis Benson, 1860). The Eocene fossil Plectopyloides Yen, 1969 is classified into the Sinicolinae. The Plectopylinae are revised mainly based on historical type and non-type material, and the material of the Florida Museum of Natural History, collected in Thailand in the 1980s. The following species-group taxa are described as new: Chersaecia auffenbergi sp. nov., Chersaecia densegyrata sp. nov., Chersaecia mogokensis sp. nov., Chersaecia reversalis sp. nov., Chersaecia scabra sp. nov., Chersaecia shiroiensis subnagaensis subsp. nov., Hunyadiscus tigrina sp. nov., Naggsia oligogyra sp. nov., Plectopylis crassilabris sp. nov., Plectopylis malayana sp. nov. and Plectopylis thompsoni sp. nov. The genus Endoplon Gude, 1899 is treated as a synonym of Chersaecia. Consequently, the two species classified in Endoplon are members of Chersaecia: Chersaecia brachyplecta (Benson, 1863) comb. nov. and Chersaecia smithiana (Gude, 1897) comb. nov. The genus Plectopylis is redefined, and includes only species with fused anterior and posterior lamellae. Thus, the following species are moved from Plectopylis to Chersaecia: Chersaecia feddeni (Blanford, 1865) comb. nov., Chersaecia goniobathmos (Ehrmann, 1922) comb. nov., Chersaecia leucochila (Gude, 1897) comb. nov., Chersaecia magna (Gude, 1897) comb. nov. and Chersaecia woodthorpei (Gude, 1899) comb. nov. Altogether thirteen species and varieties are moved to the synonymy of valid species: Helix (Plectopylis) brachydiscus Godwin-Austen, 1879 syn. nov., Helix (Plectopylis) ponsonbyi Godwin-Austen, 1888 syn. nov., Plectopylis (Chersaecia) kengtungensis Gude, 1914 syn. nov., Plectopylis (Chersaecia) degerbolae Solem, 1966 syn. nov., Plectopylis lissochlamys Gude, 1897 syn. nov., Helix repercussa Gould, 1856 syn. nov., Plectopylis achatina var. obesa Gude, 1898 syn. nov., Plectopylis achatina var. infrafasciata Gude, 1898 syn. nov., Plectopylis achatina var. venusta Gude, 1898 syn. nov., Plectopylis achatina var. castanea Gude, 1898 syn. nov., Plectopylis achatina var. breviplica Gude, 1898 syn. nov., Plectopylis achatina var. repercussoides Gude, 1899 syn. nov., Plectopylis linterae var. fusca Gude, 1898 syn. nov. Plectopylis (Chersaecia) simplex Solem, 1966 is a subspecies of Chersaecia perarcta (Blanford, 1865), whereas Plectopylis muspratti Gude, 1897 is a subspecies of Chersaecia nagaensis (Godwin-Austen, 1875).

The taxonomy of the New Zealand weevil genus Irenimus Pascoe, 1876 is revised, resulting in a narrower concept of the genus than has been considered in recent decades. In total, the genus now contains only seven species. In addition to the type species, I. parilis Pascoe, 1876, the genus contains I. duplex (Broun, 1904) and five newly described species: I. aniptus new species (type locality, Oamaru, DN), I. crinitus new species (type locality, Hakataramea Valley, SC), I. minimus new species (type locality, Alexandra, CO), I. stichus new species (type locality, Tekapo, MK) and I. thoracicus new species (type locality, Oamaru, DN). The genus Chalepistes new genus is established to contain the majority of species previously described in the genus Catoptes Schönherr, 1842, but also including species described in Brachyolus White, 1846; Irenimus Pascoe, 1876; Inophloeus Pascoe, 1875; and Nicaeana Pascoe, 1877. A key for identification of the 45 genera of Acanthocinini with erect setae on the elytra and which occur in South America is provided. A new synonymy is proposed for Trichonyssodrys Gilmour, 1957 (junior synonym of Pentheochaetes Melzer, 1932), resulting in new combinations for the following species: Pentheochaetes aureopilosa (Monné, 1990), P. cincta (Delfino, 1981), P. maculata (Gilmour, 1957), P. melasma (Delfino, 1981), and P. nessimiani (Monné & Monné, 2012). The gender of the species-group names in Pentheochaetes is corrected. Diagnosis for each genus is provided, as well as type-locality and geographical distribution of the type-species.

In the first part of the revision of the family Metarbelidae (Lepidoptera) of the south-eastern Asia, a complete literature review of the previously described taxa and biology of the Asian group members is given. The images of the adults and male genitaias of all known Metarbelidae genera of the Oriental region are illustrated. Two genera are described as new for the science: Orgyarbela Yakovlev & Zolotuhin, gen. nov. (type species Arbela millemaculata Hampson, 1897, by original designation here) and Hollowarbela Yakovlev & Zolotuhin, gen. nov. (type species Indarbela kinabalua Holloway, 1976, by original designation). The genus Encaumaptera Hampson, 1893 is revised. The following new species are described here: Encaumaptera aurora Yakovlev & Zolotuhin, sp. nov. (type locality: Thailand, Changwat Nan, 5 km N of Bo Luang), E. devyatkini Yakovlev & Zolotuhin, sp. nov. (type locality: C. Vietnam, Kon Tum Prov., Sa Thay Distr., Bargok, Chu Mot Ray NP), Orgyarbela kerri Yakovlev & Zolotuhin, sp. nov. (type locality: Laos, Nam Guak [Yuak river Valley, Wiengchau]), and O. mackwoodi Yakovlev & Zolotuhin, sp. nov. (type locality: Burma, Kawkerait [Kawkarike, Karen Prov., Myanmar]). The new combinations are established: Orgyarbela millemaculata (Hampson, 1897), comb.nov. and Hollowarbela kinabalua (Holloway, 1976), comb. nov.

This nomenclator provides bibliographic details on all names in the family-, genus-, and species-group of the the family Paludomidae. All nomenclaturally available names are discussed including junior homonyms and objective junior synonyms as well as unavailable names such as nomina nuda, infrasubspecific names and, to some extent, also incorrect subsequent spellings. In the family-group a total of 28 names are included in the nomenclator, of which 21 are available and seven unavailable names. Of the available names in the family-group, six are invalid for nomenclatural reasons. In the genus-group a total of 57 names are included in the catalogue. Of the available names in the genus-group, 11 are invalid for nomenclatural reasons. In the species-group a total of 499 names are included, of which 463 are available, but 21 are invalid for nomenclatural reasons. All names are given in their original combination and spelling (mandatory changes are discussed and corrected spellings are provided), along with the reference to the original publication. Information on the localization of primary and secondary type material, as well as updated names for the localities of primary types, are provided for all valid and synonymized species. Literature treatment of male and female specimens is discriminated in the synonymic listing of all species. The taxonomic history for all species of a species-rich genus of the Chloropidae (Diptera) is briefly presented for the first time, by the example of the genus Elachiptera Macquart, 1835. Here, all names of the species-group ever combined with the generic name Elachiptera are listed together with the references and the first page of their descriptions, their first transfer into the valid genus, their senior and junior synonyms and further important references to their taxonomical status. In addition, all names of the genus group that have ever been associated with these species names are listed together with their type species. Thirty new combinations are introduced in order to transfer species from Melanochaeta Bezzi, 1906 (a synonym of Oscinella Becker, 1909) to the valid genera Lasiochaeta Corti, 1909 and Gampsocera Schiner, 1862. The known zoogeographical distribution of each of the 81 valid Elachiptera species and 74 valid species in other genera is briefly summarized. Selected exemplary data on larval habitats of Elachiptera are discussed.

In the third part of the revision of the family Metarbelidae (Lepidoptera) of South-Eastern Asia, we provide a revision of the genus Stueningeria Lehmann, 2019 with description of six new species: Stueningeria htetae sp. nov. (Type locality: Mynmar, 21 km E Putao), Stueningeria csovarii sp. nov. (Type locality: Thailand, Changwat Nan, 15 km N of Bo Luang), Stueningeria loeffleri sp. nov. (Type locality: Thailand, Sakhon Nakhon Prov., Phu Pan NP), Stueningeria ihlei sp. nov. (Type locality: Vietnam (C.), Prov. Thua-Thien-Hue, Kreis A Luoi, Gemeinde A Rong, Passastrasse ca. 30 km S A Luoi.), Stueningeria murzini sp. nov. (Type locality: China, SW Yunnan, Xishuanbanna, Guanping env., 60 km N Jinghong), and Stueningeria pinratanai sp. nov. (Type locality: NW Thailand, Chiangmai, Doi Pui Forest Res. Stat.)  Two new combinations are established: Stueningeria campbelli (Hampson, 1910) comb. nov. and Stueningeria phaga (Swinhoe, 1894) comb. nov. Both species are redescribed. The type species of the genus Stueningeria nepalensis Lehmann, 2019 is reported for the first time for the fauna of India (Uttarakhand). We also give for the first time the description of female genitalia of the genus Stueningeria. The genus distribution map is provided.
