A poorly known deep-water axiid shrimp, Eiconaxius acutifrons Bate, 1888, the type species of the genus, is redescribedon the basis of the two type specimens (lectotype and paralectotype, designated herein) from the Banda Sea, Indonesia,and three recently collected specimens from the Myojin Knoll, Izu Islands, Japan. Diagnostic characters of this speciesare reassessed, and the comparison with closely allied congeneric species is made. Previous records referred to E.acutifrons are reviewed. It has been confirmed that none of the subsequent records under the name represent the true E.acutifrons. We found that Eiconaxius albatrossae Kensley, 1996 and E. faxoni Sakai, 2011 were based on the same seriesof material from the eastern Pacific, referred to E. acutifrons by Faxon (1895), but the Sakai’s (2011) taxon name is unavailable because of the lack of an explicit type fixation.

Two chelodesmid millipeds described by Brölemann (1903) from the interior of Bahia have not been reported for over 100 years despite their large size and bright coloration. Originally described as Leptodesmus gounellei and Leptodesmus carminatus, neither species is referable to Leptodesmus as currently defined nor any other established genus. Both have been studied from the type specimens, and are here designated the type species of two new genera, Plectrogonodesmus for gounellei and Baianassa for carminatus. Diagnostic characters are illustrated for both taxa. Intergeneric relationships are at present not evident, and are not suggested pending better understanding of the chelodesmid fauna of eastern Brazil.

Papagona Ball, 1935 was originally described based on two species from the USA (Arizona). Both species of Papagona (P. papoosa Ball, 1935, type species of genus, and P. succinea Ball, 1935) are redescribed herein based on type specimens, including their previously unknown internal male genitalia. A new species from Brazil (Roraima) is described herein including the male and female terminalia. A taxonomic key to all included species is provided and additional diagnostic characters for this genus are proposed.

Zyginellini is a smaller tribe in Typhlocybinae. Species in this tribe feed on trees and shrubs, and some species harm economic crops. Examples include as Zyginella mali (Yang) and Zyginella minuta (Yang) which damage apple trees. Members in this tribe usually have bright coloration, distinct patches and spots. Most lack ocelli. Compared with other tribes of Typhlocybinae, the main diagnostic characters of Zyginellini are: vannal veins in hindwing separate apically, only one transverse vein visible and submarginal vein extended directly to vein Cu1, forming one open cell. This tribe is related to Typhlocybini. The Zyginellini leafhopper genus Yangida was erected by Dworakowska (1994) with Yangida basnetti Dworakowska from Sikkim, as its type species. There have been no further reports on this genus. In this paper, we describe the second species, Yangida fasciata sp. nov. from China. The type specimens of the new species are deposited in the collections of the Entomological Museum, Northwest A & F University, Yangling, China.

Taxonomic and nomenclatorial revision of the genus Cheilonycha Lacordaire, 1842 with type species Cheilonycha chalybea (by original monotypy), based on Cicindela chalybea Dejean, 1825, is presented. It is concluded here that a subsequent type designation by Horn (1910), who without any explanation mentioned Ch. auripennis (Lucas, 1857) as the type species of the genus, was unjustified and must be considered invalid according to ICZN (1999). Examinations of type specimens have revealed that Cheilonycha auripennis sensu auctorum (sensu Horn 1922 and subsequent authors) is a complex of taxa. As a result, one new subspecies of Ch. auripennis (Lucas, 1857) and one new species of the genus are described and the following taxa of Cheilonycha are recognized and presented here: Ch. chalybea (Dejean, 1825), Ch. a. auripennis (Lucas, 1857), Ch. a. chiquitosiana ssp. nov. and Ch. bucephalauripennis sp. nov. Type specimens of Ch. a. angustedilatata (W. Horn, 1922) based on Odontochila (Chilonycha) auripennis angustedilatata W. Horn, 1922, proved to be fully conspecific with the type specimens of Ch. auripennis based on Cicindela auripennis Lucas, 1857. Consequently, Ch. a. angustedilatata syn. nov. is treated here as a junior synonym of Ch. a. auripennis. The history of the taxonomy of these taxa, their distribution and biology, including photographs of the termitophilous habitat, relevant lectotype designations, descriptions (redescriptions respectively) and illustrations in colour photographs of the habitus, diagnostic characters and variability are provided.

The subgenus Bodilus Mulsant & Rey, 1870 of the genus Aphodius Helwig, 1798 sensu lato comprises 30 species in the Palearctic fauna (Frolov 2001, 2002, Dellacasa et al. 2016 [treated as genus Bodilus]). Frolov (2001) reviewed the species of this subgenus from Russia and adjacent countries and suggested that the monotypic subgenus Paramelinopterus Rakovič, 1984 shares the main diagnostic characters of Bodilus. Frolov (2001) was unable, however, to examine the type species of Paramelinopterus, A. longipennis Rakovič, 1984, at that time. Král (2016) suggested that A. (Bodilus) inylchekensis Frolov, 2001 is a junior synonym of A. longipennis. Recently we have re-examined all the types as well as the additional material accumulated in the museums and can confirm that A. inylchekensis is a distinct species, but A. insperatus Petrovitz, 1967 and A. longipennis cannot be reliably separated by the morphological characters. In the present contribution we illustrate the major diagnostic characters of the species based on the type specimens and also provide a distribution map of the known localities of the species.

A new genus and five new species of odiniids (Odiniidae: Traginopinae) are described from the Brazilian Amazon and Cerrado biomes: Inpauema mirador gen. nov. et sp. nov. (type species), I. catarinae sp. nov., I. gaimarii sp. nov., I. raimundoluizi sp. nov., and I. xavieri sp. nov. The genus is being characterized by a unique combination of diagnostic characters: body predominantly dark brown to black, with silvery-gray pruinose spots on inner margin of eyes, longitudinally along middle of lunule and face, on notopleuron and mesopleuron; postcranium concave from dorsal view; one pair of stout proclinate ocellar setae; postocellar setae absent; lunule shorter than frons; gena lacking upturned seta; antennae separated by a maximum distance of 2X the diameter of a single antennal socket and gonocoxal apodemes directed upward, forming an arch. A key to separate Helgreelia Gaimari, 2007 from Inpauema gen. nov. and for the new species is provided.

The systematics of the fossil representatives of Ranina Lamark, 1810, has been discussed by several authors in the last century, showing some problematics above all due to the lack of a close diagnosis of the type species (<em>R. ranina</em>) and to the scarce number of well-preserved type series of each fossil species. However, based upon a close comparison among the type series of each species, authors’ original descriptions, and the main diagnostic characters of <em>Ranina</em>, this preliminary review finds that twelve species have to be considered as doubtful species within <em>Ranina</em>, as follows: <em>?Ranina americana</em> Withers, 1924, <em>?R. berglundi</em> Squires &amp; Demetrion, 1992,<em> ?R. bouilleana</em> A. Milne Edwards, 1872, <em>?R. brevispina</em> Lőrenthey, 1898,<em> ?R. granulosa</em> A. Milne Edwards, 1872, <em>?R. griesbachi</em> Noetling, 1897, <em>?R. haszlinskyi</em> Reuss, 1859, <em>?R. libyca</em> (Van Straelen, 1935),<em> ?R.</em> <em>molengraaffi</em> Van Straelen, 1924,<em> ?R. oblonga</em> (von Münster, 1840), <em>?R. ornata</em> De Angeli &amp; Beschin, 2011, and<em> ?R. speciosa</em> (von Münster, 1840). Four species have to be considered as <em>Ranina nomina dubia</em>, as follows: <em>Ranina elegans</em> Rathbun, 1945, <em>R. hirsuta</em> (Schafhäutl, 1863), <em>R. lamiensis</em> Rathbun, 1945, and<em> R. tejoniana</em> Rathbun, 1926. <em>Ranina</em> <em>bavarica</em> Ebert, 1887,<em> R. fabri</em> Schafhäutl, 1863, and<em> R. helii</em> Schafhäutl, 1863, have to be assigned to Lophoranina Fabiani, 1910. <em>Ranina</em> <em>cuspidata</em> Guppy, 1909, has to be assigned to Calappa Weber, 1795 (Calappidae De Haan, 1833). Finally,<em> R. burleighensis</em> Holland in Holland &amp; Cvancara, 1958, has to be considered as doubtful species within Decapoda.

Concepts of the family Hyolithidae Nicholson fide Fisher and the genera Hyolithes Eichwald and Orthotheca Novak have been expanded through time to encompass a variety of morphologically dissimilar shells. The Hyolithidae is here considered to include only those hyolithid species which have a rounded (convex) dorsum; slopes on the dorsum are inflated, and the venter may be flat or slightly inflated. Hyolithes encompasses species which possess a low dorsum and a prominent longitudinal sulcus along each edge of the dorsum; the ligula is short and the apertural rim is flared. The emended concept of Orthotheca includes only those species of orthothecid hyoliths which have a subtriangular transverse outline and longitudinal lirae covering the shell on both dorsum and venter.Eighteen species of Hyolithes and one species of Orthotheca from the Appalachian region and Western Interior were reexamined in light of more modern taxonomic concepts and standards of quality for type material. Reexamination of type specimens of H. similis Walcott from the Lower Cambrian of Newfoundland, H. whitei Resser from the Lower Cambrian of Nevada, H. billingsi Walcott from the Lower Cambrian of Nevada, H. gallatinensis Resser from the Upper Cambrian of Wyoming, and H. partitus Resser from the Middle Cambrian of Alabama indicates that none of these species represents Hyolithes. Hyolithes similis is here included under the new genus Similotheca, in the new family Similothecidae. Hyolithes whitei is designated as the type species of the new genus Nevadotheca, to which H. billingsi may also belong. Hyolithes gallatinensis is referred to Burithes Missarzhevsky with question, and H. partitus may represent Joachimilites Marek. The type or types of H. attenuatus Walcott, H. cecrops Walcott, H. comptus Howell, H. cowanensis Resser, H. curticei Resser, H. idahoensis Resser, H. prolixus Resser, H. resseri Howell, H. shaleri Walcott, H. terranovicus Walcott, and H. wanneri Resser and Howell lack shells and/or other taxonomically important features such as a complete aperture, rendering the diagnoses of these species incomplete. Their names should only be used for the type specimens until better preserved topotypes become available for study. Morphology of the types of H.? corrugatus Walcott and “Orthotheca” sola Resser does not support placement in the Hyolitha; the affinities of these species are uncertain.

AbstractThree new species of Tabanidae egg parasitoids are described: Telenomus hybomitraesp. nov. and Telenomus utilissp. nov., both reared from eggs of Hybomitra nitidifrons nuda (McDunnough) and Hybomitra lasiophthalma Macquart, and Telenomus chrysopsissp. nov., reared from eggs of Chrysops aestuans Wulp, Chrysops excitans Walker, and Chrysops mitis Osten Sacken. Specimens of these species were compared with type specimens of known New World species of scelionid parasitoids attacking tabanid eggs. Diagnostic characters and identification key to the Nearctic species are provided.
