A remarkable new lebiine genus with two new species from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran (Coleoptera: Carabidae: Lebiini)

The peculiar lebiine genus Disciferella gen. n. is described as a representative of the subtribe Dromiusina Bonelli, 1810. The genus is very distinct habitually and could be easily recognized among other lebiines already by its appearance. In combination of its distinctive features, it is most similar to the enigmatic monotypic genus Brachynopterus, but distinguished from it by several sufficient characters, including the shape of the gonocoxite which is very characteristic (elongate and slightly arcuate) in the latter genus and typical for Dromiusina (short and wide) in Disciferella gen. n. The new genus includes two newly described species: D. kabakovi sp. n. (type species) from Afghanistan and Pakistan, and D. psammophila sp. n. from south-eastern Iran. The very characteristic habitus of the two new species with their wide discoidal elytra is similar to that of some species of the genera Discoptera Semenov, 1889 and Graphipterus Latreille, 1802 living in sandy habitats. This resemblance suggests a similar specialized mode of life, most likely in sandy deserts and dunes. The systematic position of the new genus is discussed.

Within Trichotichnus Morawitz, 1863, the new subgenus Parairidessus subgen. nov. is described, which includes two new species from the Western Ghats in India: T. saluki sp. nov. (type species) from Western Karnataka and T. perforatus sp. nov. from Maharashtra. Each of the species has distinctive features unusual for Trichotichnus: several setae in pronotal apical angles and tarsi densely setose dorsally in T. saluki sp. nov., and median lobe with membranous ventral side in T. perforatus sp. nov. The other subgenera of Trichotichnus (Iridessus Bates, 1883, Trichotichnus s. str., Amaroschesis Tschitschérine, 1897, and Bottchrus Jedlička, 1935) are briefly reviewed and their distinctive features are clarified. Harpalus relucens Bates, 1973 [= T. orientalis (Hope, 1845)] is considered as a type species of Iridessus Bates, 1883, which was originally designated by Tschitschérine in 1906; the more recent designation of Harpalus lucidus Morawitz, 1863 as the type species of this subgenus by Habu in 1954 is invalid. The systematic position of the Himalayan species T. tonklii Kirschenhofer, 1992 and the two North American species, T. autumnalis (Say, 1823) and T. nitidulus (Chaudoir, 1843) nom. resurr., is discussed. Harpalus fulgens Csiki, 1932 (non Dejean, 1829) is considered as an unnecessary substitute name for Harpalus nitidulus Chaudoir, 1843. A key to subgenera of Trichotichnus is provided.

AbstractThe purpose of this paper is a comparative morphological study of the little known monotypic weevil genus Araxia Khnzorian, 1957 and its close allies; redescriptions and figures are provided. A new systematic position for Araxia is proposed and discussed, its affinity with Chiloneus Schoenherr, 1842 and a new genus Holcolydoprus gen. n. is demonstrated. A new genus Holcolydoprus gen. n. is described with two new species H. bimaculatus sp. n. (type species) from Turkmenistan and H. griseus sp. n. from Transcaucasia and Eastern Turkey. The genus Aomus Schoenherr, 1834 is transferred from the tribe Laparocerini to Sciaphilini, its affinity with Eusomomorphus K. Daniel, 1905 is demonstrated. A new combination Eusomomorphus ilerii (Fremuth & Lodos, 1987), comb. n. is established for Aomus ilerii. A key to genera centering around Araxia is given.

A new halacaroid family, Pezidae, is erected for the new genus Peza, with two new species Peza ops (type species) and Peza daps. P. ops has been widely collected in south-eastern Australia, while P. daps is known only from a single female taken from the gill chamber of a burrowing crayfish, Engaeus fultoni Smith & Schuster (Crustacea : Decapoda : Parastacidae), in the Otway Ranges, Victoria. During winter and spring, females of both species apparently attach their eggs to their hind legs. The Pezidae is regarded as the sister-group of the remaining Halacaroidea.

A new genus of Paramunnidae, Holodentata (type species: Paramunna gaussi Vanhöffen, 1914) is erected. The new genus comprises two new species: H. caeca, from the deep Weddell Sea and H. triangulata, from the Ross Sea. The new genus is distinguished by the following characters: article 3 of the antenna short and with strong denticles, mandible palp absent, article 2 of maxilliped palp longest, coxal plates visible in dorsal view in all pereonites, pleotelson broad and laterally denticulated.

AbstractA new genus, Sticholeia, is erected to comprise two new species, cheesmanae and dolichostyla, from New Guinea and Vanuatu, respectively, and an unnamed female from Indonesia. Members of the new genus have two ocelli, a row of strong bristles near the hind margin of the eyes, tibial trichia arranged in regular rows, and strongly prolonged male terminalia. Despite featuring some characters supposed to be diagnostic for the subfamily Manotinae, the new genus is attributed to the tribe Leiini of Sciophilinae. The genus may represent the sistergroup of Allactoneura de Meijere plus Leiella Enderlein. Judged from the distribution of characters among Leiini the monotypic tribe Allactoneurini is rejected.

Recent survey work for planthoppers at La Selva Biological Station in Costa Rica found two new species allied with Cenchrea Westwood. The cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) and 18S were sequenced for the new taxa and used these data to assess the genus-level standing of the new taxa. The new taxa do not cluster with Cenchrea dorsalis Westwood, the type species of Cenchrea. A new genus Tico gen. n. described for the reception of new species described as Tico emmettcarri sp. n. (the type species) and Tico pseudosororius sp. n. Cenchrea sororia Fennah is moved to Tico gen. n., to form the new combination Tico sororius (Fennah). Tico gen. n. is compared with allied genera, and review genus-level diagnostic features and the species composition of Cenchrea, which appears to be compositionally heterogenous, but additional data is needed to evaluate genus-level placement of most species.

The Genera of Fungi series, of which this is the sixth contribution, links type species of fungal genera to their morphology and DNA sequence data. Five genera of microfungi are treated in this study, with new species introduced in Arthrographis, Melnikomyces, and Verruconis. The genus Thysanorea is emended and two new species and nine combinations are proposed. Kramasamuha sibika, the type species of the genus, is provided with DNA sequence data for first time and shown to be a member of Helminthosphaeriaceae (Sordariomycetes). Aureoconidiella is introduced as a new genus representing a new lineage in the Dothideomycetes.

A new genus Mirabythus Cai, Shih et Ren, gen. nov. (type species, M. lechrius Cai, Shih et Ren, sp. nov.) and M. liae Cai, Shih et Ren, sp. nov. from the family Scolebythidae are described from the Early Cretaceous Yixian Formation of Huangbanjigou Village, Liaoning Province, northeastern China. These findings extend the existence of Scolebythidae to the Early Cretaceous of China, while providing evidence to support Engel and Grimaldi’s hypothesis that the family was widely distributed throughout the Cretaceous. Our two new species with clear venation also provide a comprehensive understanding of the venational changes from the Early Cretaceous to now. A key to the fossil and extant genera of Scolebythidae is provided.

A new genus of Coenagrionidae is described from Brazil, Angelagrion (type species Angelagrion fredericoi sp. nov.) including two new species, A. fredericoi sp. nov. and A. nathaliae sp. nov.. The new genus is characterized by an enormous and modified internal fold of genital ligula, abdominal segments S8-10 dark brown or black contrasting with mostly bluish abdomen, sternum of S8 in males with a circular bluish-white spot, and short CuA.

A new genus of odiniids (Odiniidae: Traginopinae) is described from Brazil, Pauximyia gen. nov., with two species, P. oliveirai sp. nov. (type species) and P. vidali sp. nov. A modified key to the Neotropical genera of the family and for the two Pauximyia gen. nov. species is provided.
