Oneilliella shivii sp.n. (Panchaetothripinae) is described from India as the second species in this genus. Trachynotothrips brevispinis and T. striatus (Thripinae) are newly recorded from India, and the first description provided of the female of T. brevispinis. Partial sequence data of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase (mtCOI) of these species were generated.

AbstractA new species of ampithoid amphipod, Sunamphitoe gigantea sp. nov., is described from Katsurakoi, Hokkaido, Japan. The new species most closely resembles S. eoa, but can be distinguished from it by the shorter flagellum of antenna 1, the maxilla 1 inner plate that bears two slender setae, the short dactylus of male gnathopod 2, and the presence of a group of long setae on anterior margins of pereopods 3 and 4 bases. Nucleotide sequences of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I obtained from the type specimens also differentiated this new species from the congeners. Ontogenetic morphological changes of the male gnathopod 2 are briefly discussed.

A new species of the eusirid amphipod, Rhachotropis reiwa is described from off Amamioshima Island, northwestern Pacific. The new species differs from its congeners in having large eyes, the middorsal tooth on pereonite 7, pleonite 3 and urosomite 1 without middorsal and dorsolateral teeth, the basis of pereopod 5 strongly produced posteriorly, and pereopod 6 with the triangular basis. A key to the species of Rhachotropis from Japanese and adjacent waters is provided. Additionally, a nucleotide sequence of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I from its holotype was determined for the future study.

We describe four new species of the diving beetle genus Liodessus Guignot from the high Andean regions of Peru: Liodessus alpinus sp. nov. from Junín, L. hauthi sp. nov. from Huánuco and Churubamba, L. rhigos sp. nov. from Junín, and L. thespesios sp. nov. from Cusco. We delineate the species using morphological structures and provide a 5’ mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase 1 database on the Barcode of Life Data System (BOLD). We also provide taxonomic notes on Liodessus acollensis Guignot, 1955 and L. andinus Guignot, 1957, described from the high Andes of Peru and Bolivia. These species occur at higher altitudes above 3,400 m and up to 4,900 m, and were collected in shallow, exposed peatland pools and puddles, mostly in steppes and high Andean Puna. The known distribution and habitat preferences of each species are outlined briefly.

An ongoing survey to document planthopper diversity on palms (Arecaceae) is being conducted in Costa Rica. During these efforts a new species of derbid planthopper belonging to the genus Agoo was found on Astrocaryum alatum Loomis in the Heredia province at La Selva Biological Station and is described here as Agoo luzdenia Bahder & Bartlett sp. n., bringing the genus to four described taxa—A. dahliana, A. luzdenia Bahder & Bartlett sp. n., A rubrimarginata, and A. xavieri. Sequence data for the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) and 18S genes was generated for the novel taxon and strongly supports its placement in the genus Agoo.

We describe a new snake of the genus Achalinus based on an adult female specimen from Ninh Binh Province, Vietnam. Achalinus tranganensis sp. nov. is differentiated from its congeners genetically and by a unique combination of the following characters: 1) maxillary teeth 29; 2) suture between the internasals distinctly longer than that between the prefrontals; 3) loreal distinctly wider than high, extending from the nasal to the eye; 4) dorsal scales in 25–23–23 rows, keeled; 5) two pairs of prefrontals; 6) supralabials six; 7) infralabials six; 8) temporals 2+3, the two anterior temporals in contact with eye; 9) ventrals 171; 10) subcaudals 73+, unpaired; 11) cloacal plate entire; 12) dorsum in preservative reddish to greyish brown above; 13) the lower part of head side and chin region somewhat paler than the dorsum; 14) venter greyish cream, with the anterior region of each ventral and subcaudal somewhat darker. Based on molecular comparisons using a fragment of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI), the new species differs from other members of the genus by at least 11.8%. This discovery increases the number of Achalinus species known from Vietnam to seven.

The genus Gnathospinosa Liao & Huang, gen. nov., belonging to the subfamily Euplocaminae, is described with a new species G. qinlingensis Liao & Huang, sp. nov. from China as its type species. The new species was illustrated with photographs of the adults and male genitalia. A preliminary phylogenetic study based on mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene (co1) sequence data of the new species and Psecadioides cuneus are presented.

The species of the genus Hylcalosia Fischer, 1967 (Braconidae: Alysiinae) from South Korea are revised. One species, Hylcalosia bicolorsp. nov., is new to science. They are described and illustrated herein and an identification key to the Korean species is added. In addition, the DNA barcode region of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) has been analysed for the new species and H. sutchanica is used for genetic comparison.

The bdelloid rotifers from terrestrial habitats and a wetland at six different locations in Korea were studied. The study resulted in 17 new Korean records and 4 new species, Philodina corrugata n. sp., P. triangularis n. sp., P. tumidipes n. sp., and Macrotrachela quadricaudata n. sp. Among the 17 new Korean records, 15 species are new to Asian fauna as well and include eight rare species with poorly known distributions. Habrotrocha alacris Milne, H. cucullata Murray, H. quinquedens doornensis De Koning, Macrotrachela induta Donner, Mniobia edmondsoni Burger, and Mniobia lineata Rahm have been reported only from two to three countries including their type localities before the present study. Our study is the first to report Macrotrachela ligulifera Bartoš and M. obtusa Haigh outside their type localities. The descriptions of the four new species and brief discussions on some of the rare species are provided here. In addition, a partial sequence of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene (mtCOX1) for P. corrugata n. sp. is presented.
