We describe four new species of the diving beetle genus Liodessus Guignot from the high Andean regions of Peru: Liodessus alpinus sp. nov. from Junín, L. hauthi sp. nov. from Huánuco and Churubamba, L. rhigos sp. nov. from Junín, and L. thespesios sp. nov. from Cusco. We delineate the species using morphological structures and provide a 5’ mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase 1 database on the Barcode of Life Data System (BOLD). We also provide taxonomic notes on Liodessus acollensis Guignot, 1955 and L. andinus Guignot, 1957, described from the high Andes of Peru and Bolivia. These species occur at higher altitudes above 3,400 m and up to 4,900 m, and were collected in shallow, exposed peatland pools and puddles, mostly in steppes and high Andean Puna. The known distribution and habitat preferences of each species are outlined briefly.

Oneilliella shivii sp.n. (Panchaetothripinae) is described from India as the second species in this genus. Trachynotothrips brevispinis and T. striatus (Thripinae) are newly recorded from India, and the first description provided of the female of T. brevispinis. Partial sequence data of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase (mtCOI) of these species were generated.

Mycterothrips nainiae sp. n. (Thripinae) is described and illustrated from India, and one genus and species, Paithrips circularis Nonaka and Jangvitaya, is newly recorded from India. A key to species of Mycterothrips from India is also provided. The DNA barcode data using partial mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (mtCOI) from the holotype also five sequences of Paithrips circularis were generated.

Analyses of morphological and molecular data from specimens of Homatula from China reveal an undescribed species which lives in the Nanpanjiang River, the upper Pearl River, and indicate that H. acuticephala is a synonym of H. anguillioides. The new species is collected from Yunnan, China. It differs from its congeners by having a naked and robust body, developed adipose crests (depth of caudal peduncle in the percent of its length:70.53–78.48), a median notch on the lower jaw, a median gap on the lower lip, short barbels with maxillary barbels extend posteriorly reaching the anterior edge of eyes, vertebrae 37–38, completed lateral line. New species differs from other species of Homatula by 0.05–0.11 in K2P distance of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1. Phylogenetic analysis based on mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 indicate that new species formed a sister group to co-drainage species. Based on both morphological and molecular results, we confirm that the validation of this undescribed species named H. robusta sp. nov. and describe it.

AbstractA new species of ampithoid amphipod, Sunamphitoe gigantea sp. nov., is described from Katsurakoi, Hokkaido, Japan. The new species most closely resembles S. eoa, but can be distinguished from it by the shorter flagellum of antenna 1, the maxilla 1 inner plate that bears two slender setae, the short dactylus of male gnathopod 2, and the presence of a group of long setae on anterior margins of pereopods 3 and 4 bases. Nucleotide sequences of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I obtained from the type specimens also differentiated this new species from the congeners. Ontogenetic morphological changes of the male gnathopod 2 are briefly discussed.
