This paper includes several nomenclatural changes in dendrochirotid holothuroids, mostly based on materials from the USNM. These include the erection of a new genus Pseudostolus for two Indo-Pacific Stolus species [(S. kilberti Rajpal & Thandar, 1999 and S. rapax Koehler & Vaney (1908)], re-assignment of Havelockia uniannulatus (Sluiter, 1914), Thyone pseudofusus Deichmann 1930, T. parafusus Deichmann, 1941 and T. axiologa H.L. Clark, 1938, to the genus Stolus, and re-assignment of Havelockia nozawai (Mitsukuri, 1912) and Thyone adinopoda Pawson & Miller, 1981 to the genus Sclerothyone Thandar, 1989. In addition, a lectotype is designated for (T. vilis Sluiter, 1901), based on the study of type material at the ZMUA. The Caribbean Stolus cognatus is also described and commented on and a single, perhaps juvenile specimen from the Gulf of California is described as Thyone ? n. sp.

Cyrtopholis Simon 1892 is a spider genus from the Caribbean islands characterized by the presence of stridulatory setae on trochanter of palps and legs I. Franganillo Balboa described eight species of Cyrtopholis Simon 1892 from Cuba between 1926–1936. The type-material is deposited in the Instituto de Ecología y Sistematica do Ministerio de Ciencias, Tecnologia e Meio Ambiente, La Habana, Cuba. Four species are redescribed here: Cyrtopholis plumosa Franganillo, 1931, Cyrtopholis major Franganillo, 1926, Cyrtopholis unispina Franganillo, 1926 and Cyrtopholis gibbosa Franganillo, 1936. Cyrtopholis ischnoculoformis Franganillo, 1926 is based on a juvenile specimen without stridulatory setae, and it is therefore considered here as species inquirenda. The type-material of two other species were not located: Cyrtopholis anacanta Franganillo, 1935 and Cyrtopholis obsoleta (Franganillo, 1935), and are considered to be lost. These two species are here considered as species inquirenda, since the original descriptions do not permit identification. Cyrtopholis respina Franganillo 1935 is considered a nomen dubium, due to the lack of a formal description and a doubtful citation.

We compared morphological features in 122 specimens of the Synalpheus townsendi species complex from the Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico and eastern Pacific. Our objectives were to examine the taxonomy of S. townsendi townsendi, S. t. mexicanus, S. t. brevispinis and S. t. peruvianus, which we felt have not been appropriately described and to reconsider their status. Based on examination of type material and different characters, we conclude that these taxa should be treated as distinct species, S. townsendi Coutière, 1909; S. mexicanus Coutière, 1909, S. brevispinis Coutière, 1909 and S. peruvianus Rathbun, 1910. We agree with Dardeau, 1986, that S. scaphoceris Coutière, 1910, is a distinct species. Specimens identified as S. townsendi productus Coutière, 1909, overlap in morphology with typical S. townsendi, and therefore are not considered to warrant designation as a separate taxon. Synalpheus mexicanus is not endemic to the Gulf of California.

Borinctolania sakakibarai, n. gen. and n. sp. from Puerto Rico is described, illustrated, and placed in the subfamily Stegaspidinae. The new genus is morphologically similar to the previously described endemic Caribbean genera Antillotolania Ramos, Deiroderes Ramos and Togotolania Cryan & Deitz, all of which remain unplaced to tribe. A key to the Caribbean treehopper genera that lack a posterior pronotal process and a species checklist for this group are provided, and relationships of the new genus to other membracids are discussed.

The identities of the genus Equatobursa Zou, 1985 and its single included species, E. nigra Zou, 1985 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Lygaeoidea: Heterogastridae) are clarified based on the re-examination of the type material of the species. The following new subjective synonymies are proposed: Sadoletus Distant, 1903 = Equatobursa Zou, 1985, syn. nov.; Sadoletus izzardi Hidaka, 1959 = Equatobursa nigra Zou, 1985, syn. nov.

At present, only 11 species of harpacticoid copepods have been described from the deep sea of the Gulf of California and the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula. These efforts had until recently been focused exclusively on the families Ameiridae Boeck, Argestidae Por, and Rhizothrichidae Por. Preliminary analyses revealed also an important contribution of the subfamily Stenheliinae Brady (Miraciidae Dana) to the overall species richness and diversity of deep-sea benthic copepods from the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula, and the central and southern Gulf of California. One new species of the genus Wellstenhelia Karanovic & Kim, 2014, We. euterpoides sp. nov., and one new genus and species, Wellstenvalia wellsi gen. et sp. nov., are herein described from sediment samples taken at eight sampling stations in the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula and in the central and southern Gulf of California. Wellstenhelia euterpoides sp. nov. seems to be closely related to We. euterpe Karanovic & Kim, 2014 with which it shares the reduced armature complement of the baseoendopod of the female fifth leg. The so far monotypic genus Wellstenvalia gen. nov. was found to be closely related to Muohuysia Özdikmen, 2009 and Wellstenhelia. Some comments on the relationships between the new genus proposed here and other stenheliin genera and species are provided as a contribution towards the monophyly of the subfamily.

The genus Tajikacelis n. gen. is introduced for species of Archimonocelididae (Proseriata) characterized by the lack of atrial spines in the copulatory organ and by the opening of the seminal vesicles into the prostate vesicle at its ventral side. Six new species from the Pacific Ocean are ascribed to the new genus; they may be distinguished by features of the genital systems and the morphology of their copulatory stylets. T. tajikai n. sp. (type species of the new genus) and T. macrostomoides n. sp., both from eastern Australia, have a long tubular stylet. In T. macrostomoides n. sp., the stylet is more curved, bending to 180°, and has a narrower basis compared to that of T. tajikai n. sp. In T. artoisi n. sp., from Hawai’i, and T. nematoplanoides n. sp., from South Australia, the stylet is shaped as a truncated cone, with a broad, oblique proximal opening and a very short tubular part. T. artoisi n. sp. is distinct for the much stronger thickening of the dorsal side of the stylet, and for the different shape of the proximal opening. In T. acuta n. sp. and T. truncata n. sp., from West Panama, the tubular stylet is comparatively short; the two species differ for the shape of the distal opening, produced into a sharp spike in T. acuta n. sp., and square-ended in T. truncata n. sp.. Two species previously described in the genus Archimonocelis are transferred to Tajikacelis n. gen.: T. itoi Tajika, 1981 from Japan and T. keke Martens and Curini-Galletti, 1989 from Sulawesi (Indonesia). The taxonomic position of the problematic Archimonocelis glabrodorsata Martens and Curini-Galletti, 1989 from the Caribbean is discussed. The relationships of and within the genus Tajikacelis n. gen. are discussed and compared with recent results based on DNA studies.

Dentalion gen. nov. (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae: Entedoninae), is described from the northern part of the Neotropical region, from Costa Rica to Ecuador and Brazil, and the Caribbean (Trinidad & Tobago). It comprises eleven new species: D. alveum, D. ambonatum, D. apertum, D. apon, D. crassicornis, D. jimenezi, D. mischum, D. noyesi, D. pinguicornis, D. pnigaliae, D. quadrifer. These species are diagnosed, described and illustrated, and a key for their identification is provided. Dentalion is characterized by two putative autapomorphies and two synapomorphies. The phylogenetic implications of these apomorphies are discussed briefly.

A new genus and species, Lissaclita melaniae (Tetraclitidae), is described from the Gulf of California, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Lissaclita has a secondarily divided single row of parietal tubes without septa, lack of tubes in the radii, diametric shell growth, and a membranous basis. This combination of characters does not agree with any currently described subfamily within the Tetraclitidae. Lacking a detailed phylogenetic analysis of the entire family, we place the new genus in the Tetraclitidae without assigning it to a subfamily.

Thirteen new species of sponges are described from coral reefs of the Netherlands Antilles and the Colombian Caribbean. Species were collected during quantitative investigations of reef sponges performed by students of the University of Amsterdam in the period between 1984 and 1991. Most of the reported specimens were taken from undersides of coral rubble, crevices or reef caves (sciophilous habitats) and without exception are small encrusting or fistular sponges. The material reported in this paper includes a new genus and species of Placospongiidae, Placospherastra antillensis n. g. n. sp. , the first Caribbean representatives of the genera Triptolemma (Pachastrellidae) and Megaciella (Acarnidae), viz. Triptolemma endolithicum n. sp. and Megaciella incrustans n. sp., a new species of Timeidae, Timea curacaoensis n. sp., a new species of Microcionidae with peculiar colloscleres, Clathria (Thalysias) collosclera n. sp., two new species of Chondropsidae, viz. Batzella fusca n. sp., and Strongylacidon unguiferum n. sp., three new species of Coelosphaeridae, viz. Forcepia (Forcepia) minima n. sp., Forcepia (Forcepia) fistulosa n. sp., and Forcepia (Leptolabis) microlabis n. sp., a new species of Crellidae, Crella (Grayella) beglingerae n. sp., a new species of Hymedesmiidae, Hymedesmia (Hymedesmia) bonairensis n. sp., and a new species of Mycalidae, Mycale (Paresperella) vitellina n. sp. Most species are represented by only small fragments removed from the substrate by scalpel or diving knife, leaving little and often crumbled preserved type material. This study is intended to demonstrate that the small crusts dominating easily accessible shallow water coral rubble habitats in the Caribbean remain understudied.

We describe a new genus and species of remipede crustacean from an anchialine cave on the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean region. Kaloketos pilosus is a medium-sized species of robust build that occurs in sympatry with other remipedes, and is recognized as a new genus of the family Speleonectidae. Kaloketos is distinguished from other genera of Remipedia by several unique characters that include dense fields of short, feathered setae on most maxillary and maxillipedal segments, and distinctly expanded rami of the larger trunk limbs.
