Identification key of Ctenopoda (Cladocera, Holopedidae, Sididae) taxa from Brazil with remarks on taxonomy and geographic distribution

Using literature and field sampling data, we found that Brazilian fauna of the order Ctenopoda (Cladocera, Branchiopoda) was composed of twelve species, including the locally endemic Holopedium amazonicum and Sarsilantona behningi. In Brazil, Diapahanosoma (Neodiaphanosoma) bergamini was reported out of its type locality for the first time. Ctenopoda species were reported in all Hydrographic Regions in Brazil, however, the sampling effort was clearly distinct between many areas. These findings suggest the necessity of new faunal surveys in several parts of Brazil.

A new species of Placospongia is described from Bahia State, Brazil. Placospongia giseleae sp. nov.. The specimen is found on the underside of rocks in shallow waters (0-20m), and is unique by having a spiculation consisting of two tylostyle categories, selenasters and acanthomicrorhabds. In addition, Placospongia ruetzleri, is recorded for the first time to Bahia state, 2.974 km southwards from its type locality, the Guyana shelf. The diversity of Placospongia species is raised from two to four taxa. An identification key for Western Atlantic Placospongia species is presented.

The taxonomic treatment of Hirtella (Chrysobalanaceae) from Bahia State, Brazil, is presented. We recognize 14 species; H. bicornis is recorded for the first time in the state and H. prancei was originally described from this study. The treatment includes an identification key to species, descriptions and comments on taxa, as well as illustrations and geographic distribution maps of species in Bahia. An identification key to the genera of Chrysobalanaceae in the state is also provided.

The species of Centris of the hyptidis group are revised. The group, composed by C. hyptidis Ducke, C. hyptidoides Roig-Alsina, and C. thelyopsis n. sp., exhibits unique morphological characters within the genus, like foreand midtrochanters with a laminar expansion at the base, and elaiospathes strongly modified. An updated catalog, and floral and distributional records are provided for each species, as well as an identification key and a distribution map. The male of C. hyptidoides is described for the first time and a modern diagnosis for C. hyptidis is presented. A new species, C. thelyopsis n. sp., is described from Goiás State, in central Brazil. It can be easily distinguished from the two previously known species by its predominant orange pilosity, including that of the hind legs and metasoma.

The present work provides a general survey of the scorpion genus <em>Euscorpius</em> Thorell, 1876. Each species is briefly summarized, with notes on taxonomy, morphology, geographic distribution and ecology. The distribution and diagnostic characters are shown in easy to read tables and an identification key is provided. All the current valid species of <em>Euscorpius</em> (except <em>Euscorpius koschewnikowi</em> Birula, 1903) and several peculiar morphotypes are illustrated, with the first images of <em>Euscorpius beroni</em> Fet, 2000. The main aim of this work is to provide a complete review which will be useful both to have clearance on current systematics of the complex genus <em>Euscorpius</em> and to interpret possible future taxonomic rearrangements. <em>Euscorpius italicus</em> (Herbst, 1800) was found for the first time in Siena (central-western Italy), a record that represents a new allochthonous population, probably due to anthropogenic origin.

Desmoncus leptoclonos Drude is recorded for the first time for the state of S&atilde;o Paulo, Brazil. Based on this new record, the geographical distribution of Desmoncus Mart. for Brazil is expanded. An identification key to climbing species of Brazilian Desmoncus, a description, a map of geographic distribution, photographs, and comments concerning Desmoncus leptoclonos are provided.&nbsp;

Abstract. Here, by the first time, was quantified the predation of seeds of Protium ovatum Engl. (Burseraceae) by Bracon zuleideae Perioto & Lara (Hymenoptera, Braconidae), a phytophagous seed eater, in Parque Nacional Grande Sertão Veredas, located in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. B. zuleideae is now mentioned for the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, which extends its geographical distribution about 900 km north of its type locality, its only previous record, and new data about host plant phenology are provided.Bracon zuleideae Perioto & Lara (Hymenoptera, Braconidae): potencial de predação de sementes, expansão da distribuição geográfica e novos dados de fenologia da planta hospedeiraResumo. A predação de sementes de Protium ovatum Engl. AbstractThe amphipod Ericthonius didymus Krapp-Schickel, 2013 is reported for the first time outside its type locality in European waters, from the French Atlantic coast and from the Azores, Portugal. In particular, a large population was recorded in Arcachon, France. Molecular analyses were made to confirm the validity of three closely related Ericthonius species: E. didymus, E. convexus and E. pugnax. An identification key is provided, distinguishing Ericthonius species into three groups, based on the presence or absence of stridulating ridges on coxa 2 and posterodistal lobe on basis of male pereopod 5.

ABSTRACT The previously unknown female of Spodochlamys marahuaca Jameson & Ratcliffe, 2011 is described and illustrated for the first time based on two specimens collected in the region of the Juruá River, Amazonas state, Brazil. The specimens constitute a new record for Brazil. The identification key for species of Spodochlamys is updated, as well as the geographic distribution of the other two Brazilian species, S. caesarea Burmeister and S. iheringi Ohaus.

Epiperipatusedwardsii(Blanchard, 1847) is redescribed based on fresh material collected near the type locality. Additionally, five new species of velvet worms of the genusEpiperipatusClark, 1913 from Brazil are described:Epiperipatushyperbolicussp. nov.,Epiperipatuslucernasp. nov.,Epiperipatustitanicussp. nov. (Holotypes deposited in MNRJ: Murici, Alagoas State),Epiperipatusbeckerisp. nov. (Holotype female deposited in MNRJ: Camacan, Bahia State) andEpiperipatusmarajoarasp. nov. (Holotype male deposited in MZUSP: Breves, Marajó island, Pará State). The peculiar shape of the primary papillae (artichoke-like) ofE.titanicussp. nov. andE.beckerisp. nov. is documented for the first time.Epiperipatustitanicussp. nov. has the largest number of pairs of oncopods (38 for males and 39 for females) among the Brazilian Onychophora. We also provide an identification key for Brazilian species ofEpiperipatus.
