Abstract A new three-dimensional reflectivity echo in the rear flank of supercells known as the descending reflectivity core (DRC) has been documented in the literature by Rasmussen et al. The DRC is an enhanced region of reflectivity presumed to occur in the rear-flank downdraft (RFD) of a supercell. In the four cases they studied, this feature descended with time from the rear-echo overhang at 3–6 km in height into the supercell appendage. In addition, the DRC often occurred prior to tornadogenesis. The purpose of this paper is to serve as a more thorough analysis of DRCs using a larger sample of storms. The frequency of DRCs is explored within isolated supercells with persistent rear-flank appendages, and in particular at times preceding reported tornado onset in those supercells. Of the 64 supercells included within this study, 59% produced DRCs, with 30% of these DRCs occurring within 10 min prior to 5 min after tornadogenesis. This study included 89 reported tornadoes and 71 DRCs. Statistical analysis of the dataset reveals that while DRCs are sometimes associated with tornadoes, they presently have limited usefulness for tornado nowcasting. Improvements to Weather Surveillance Radar-1988 Doppler (WSR-88D) resolution and further classification of DRCs may help discriminate between tornadic and nontornadic appendages in the future, however.

Data simplification is an important factor of the spatial data generalization, which is an effective way to improve rendering speed. This paper firstly introduces the algorithms classification of the spatial line vector data in two-dimensional environment, and then it emphatically summarizes and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of the algorithms which can be used in the spatial line vector data simplification in the three dimensional environment. The three-dimensional Douglas-Peucker algorithm with a certain overall characteristics has wide application prospect. The simplified algorithms in 3D environment represent the development direction of the future. But at present, the existing data simplification algorithms in 3D environment are not mature enough, they all have certain advantages and disadvantages, this makes their use is limited by a certain extent. The application of these simplified algorithms in 2D and 3D is mostly on multi-resolution expression. Developing from 2D algorithm to the direction of 3D algorithm, it also lists many works and problems that need us to do and study in the future.

Abstract The preliminary processing of the signal coming from the vibration sensor is performed. Spectral analysis methods allow identifying the distinctive zones corresponding to three parameters: the average amplitude of vibrations, the average value of the spectrum, and the complex parameter of the vibration density obtained using interpolation methods. Hence, the vector contains the listed parameters as components produce a vector space, and the equations of separating surfaces in three-dimensional space and classification errors are calculated.

The particulate matter (PM) is one of the harmful pollutants that causing an impact on human health. To study the significance of those small particle properties, the research had been conducted using three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics with the Eulerian-Lagrangian approach. The trajectories of the particles were tracked and recorded. The effect of particle diameter, particle density, and particle sphericity on the escaped particle percentage was investigated and characterized using the statistical analysis of variance. The results showed that the particle diameter, particle density, their interaction, and the quadratic effect of the particle diameter played important roles in the penetration of those injected particles.

AbstractA detailed study of the holotype ofSphecomyrma canadensisWilson, 1985 from Canadian amber has led to the conclusion that the specimen belongs to a new genus, here namedBoltonimeciagen.n. Since the taxonomy of stem-group ants is not well understood, in order to find the taxonomic position of this genus, it is necessary to review the classification of stem-group ants in a study of their relation to crown-group ants. In the absence of data for traditional taxonomic approaches, a statistical study was done based on a morphometric analysis of antennae. Scape elongation is believed to play an important role in the evolution of eusociality in ants; however, this hypothesis has never been confirmed statistically. The statistical analysis presented herein lends support to the view that antennal morphology reliably distinguishes stem-group ants from crown-group ants to determine whether a species belongs to one or the other group. This, in turn, may indicate a relationship exists between eusociality and scape elongation. A review of Cretaceous records of ants is made and the higher classification of Formicidae with definitions of stem and crown groups is proposed. Newly obtained data are discussed focusing particularly on the origin, evolution and diversity of ants.

Universals Archive (Universal #1926) indicates a universal tendency for sound symbolism in reference to the expression of diminutives and augmentatives. The research ( Štekauer et al. 2009 ) carried out on European languages has not proved the tendency at all. Therefore, our research was extended to cover three language families – Indo-European, Niger-Congo and Austronesian. A three-step analysis examining different aspects of phonetic symbolism was carried out on a core vocabulary of 35 lexical items. A research sample was selected out of 60 languages. The evaluative markers were analyzed according to both phonetic classification of vowels and consonants and Ultan's and Niewenhuis' conclusions on the dominance of palatal and post-alveolar consonants in diminutive markers. Finally, the data obtained in our sample languages was evaluated by means of a three-dimensional model illustrating the place of articulation of the individual segments.

AbstractThe selection and manipulation of objects in Virtual Reality face application developers with a substantial challenge as they need to ensure a seamless interaction in three-dimensional space. Assessing the advantages and disadvantages of selection and manipulation techniques in specific scenarios and regarding usability and user experience is a mandatory task to find suitable forms of interaction. In this article, we take a look at the most common issues arising in the interaction with objects in VR. We present a taxonomy allowing the classification of techniques regarding multiple dimensions. The issues are then associated with these dimensions. Furthermore, we analyze the results of a study comparing multiple selection techniques and present a tool allowing developers of VR applications to search for appropriate selection and manipulation techniques and to get scenario dependent suggestions based on the data of the executed study.

With the increase of the number of loaded goods, the number of optional loading schemes will increase exponentially. It is a long time and low efficiency to determine the loading scheme with experience. Genetic algorithm is a search heuristic algorithm used to solve optimization in the field of computer science artificial intelligence. Genetic algorithm can effectively select the optimal loading scheme but unable to utilize weight and volume capacity of cargo and truck. In this paper, we propose hybrid Genetic and fuzzy logic based cargo-loading decision making model that focus on achieving maximum profit with maximum utilization of weight and volume capacity of cargo and truck. In this paper, first of all, the components of the problem of goods stowage in the distribution center are analyzed systematically, which lays the foundation for the reasonable classification of the problem of goods stowage and the establishment of the mathematical model of the problem of goods stowage. Secondly, the paper abstracts and defines the problem of goods loading in distribution center, establishes the mathematical model for the optimization of single car three-dimensional goods loading, and designs the genetic algorithm for solving the model. Finally, Matlab is used to solve the optimization model of cargo loading, and the good performance of the algorithm is verified by an example. From the performance evaluation analysis, proposed the hybrid system achieve better outcomes than the standard SA model, GA method, and TS strategy.

AbstractAccording to Thomas Aquinas, a miracle had to surpass the whole of the created nature, which meant the visible and corporeal, as well as the invisible and incorporeal nature. Prospero Lambertini (1675–1758), the future Pope Benedict XIV, when he was promoter of the faith, noticed that it was impossible to distinguish a cure that occurred beyond the boundaries of incorporeal and invisible nature (the whole nature) from one that exceeded just corporeal and visible nature. The issue was of utmost importance since it risked delegitimizing the whole system of miracle verification. Consequently, Lambertini, in the fourth book of his magnum opus De servorum Dei beatificatione et beatorum canonizatione (On the Beatification of the Servants of God and the Canonization of the Blessed, 1734–1738), developed a new classification of miracles, which included the works of angels, with the aim of solving the problem. Furthermore, to counteract Spinoza's denial of miracles, he claimed that miracles were not contrary to the laws of nature.
