The growth of consumer-generated media (CGM) has promoted the popularity of online knowledge sharing and electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM). While the topic of eWOM has drawn much attention in academy and industry, little research has been published addressing the factors influencing eWOM intentions. Using a well-known restaurant review website, Openrice.com, as an example, this study explored three predictors to eWOM intentions in an integrative framework: experience factor (restaurant satisfaction), knowledge sharing factors (egoistic and altruistic needs), and technology acceptance factors (perceived usefulness and perceived ease-of-use). In addition, the moderating role of technology acceptance factors on the relationships between experience/knowledge sharing factors and eWOM intentions were examined. The results of the study indicate that (1) individuals’ altruistic needs trigger positive eWOM, (2) the perceived usefulness of the website has a significant main effect on eWOM intentions, and (3) the perceived usefulness significantly moderates the relationships between satisfaction/egoistic needs and eWOM intentions. The discussions also provide implications and managerial insights for research and practice.

The technology acceptance model (TAM) stipulates that both perceived ease of use (PEOU) and perceived usefulness (PU) directly influence the end user’s behavioral intention (BI) to accept a technology. Studies have found that self-efficacy is an important determinant of PEOU. However, there has been no research examining the relationship between self-efficacy and BI. The studies on the effect of self-efficacy on PU are also rare, and findings are inconsistent. In this study, we incorporate Internet self-efficacy (ISE) into the TAM as an antecedent to PU, PEOU, and BI. We conducted a controlled experiment involving a Web-based medical record system and 86 healthcare subjects. We analyzed both direct and indirect effects of ISE on PEOU, PU, and BI using hierarchical regressions. We found that ISE explained 48% of the variation in PEOU. We also found that ISE and PEOU together explained 50% of the variation in PU, and the full model explained 80% of the variance in BI.

Mobile convergence has brought about many changes in the modern society. Especially, combining strengths of existing mobile phones and PDA functionality, smart phone is able to overcome the time and location limitations that existing desktop did not meet. This study tried to examine factors influencing intention to use of smart phone based on the theoretical studies on technology acceptance model. Applying to smart phones relevant theoretical relations extracted from previous theoretical research background on mobile devices, mobility, interactivity, innovativeness, social influence and job fitness were selected as independent variables of acceptance factors of smart phone and then research model and hypotheses were established by using these variables. To verify the hypothesis on whether smart phone acceptance factors have a significant influence on perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness, innovativeness was in significant influence on perceived ease of use, social influence was in significant influence on perceived usefulness and mobility and interactivity were in significant influence on both variables. As a result of analysis on perceived usefulness and intention to use, the mediating variables of perceived ease of use was in significant influence on perceived usefulness and perceived usefulness was in significant influence on intention to use.

Adopting the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) – perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use (Davis, Bagozzi, & Waeshaw, 1989) and Customer Buying Decision Process (Engel, Kollat, & Blackwell, 1968), this research examines the role of culture in influencing online shopping use, comparing differences across two continents and countries: Britain and China. Qualitative data obtained through the semi-structured focus group interviews was analysed using content analysis, which involves examining the accumulated data for ideas and constructs that have been pre-determined. The TAM held for the U.K. This project also explores whether the relationships hold for the emerging Chinese market.

This study examines the levels and factors contributing to email usage among academician in Malay-sian universities. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was tested to investigate the relationship of perceived ease of use (PEOU) and perceived usefulness (PU) on email usage (U). By using survey questionnaires, data was collected from 274 academician in Malaysian public and private universi-ties. Path analysis was conducted using SmartPLS 2.0 to examine the research model. This research found that email usage among academician in Malaysian private universities is significantly higher than Malaysian public universities, albeit the usage were high for both types of universities.

Abstract This paper is trying to examine the effect of social media in the use of personal transport for leisure purposes. Youngster are frequently identified as being adventurous and highly mobile, even few researcher modes of transportation choices play in important role in enhancing and fulfilling their desired experiences. In this paper, we would like to know the role of social media in enhancing the personal transport desire in south-east Kalimantan. Social media role is measured by borrowing the theory of technology acceptance model by using two variables namely perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. A quantitative method was used to measure the variable by using questionnaire given to 230 respondents given to university student near south-east Kalimantan. The gathered data is analyzed by using generalized structured component analysis. The finding in this research indicates that both perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness of social media could affect individual intention to use personal transport. However, the larger effect has reflected by perceived usefulness. This means that social media has been recognized as a good reference to stimulate leisure by using personal transport.

The revolutionary developments in information and communication technologies have drastically changed the way we communicate in our personal as well as professional life. Traditionally email was considered as formal mean of communication in organisations but now a days its common to use social networking apps for official communication. WhatsApp in this regard have so much importance as it is being used in various industries because of its security, immediacy, and easy to use features. This paper studies the role of technology acceptance model (TAM) on adoption of WhatsApp for official communication and information sharing. The sample was collected from 328 respondents from 10 Malaysian universities using survey technique. The data was analysed using SMART-PLS. The findings of the research confirm that perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use are the key constructs for adoption of WhatsApp as channel for official communication. Furthermore, the limitations and future directions of the study are also recommended.

Purpose This paper aims to examine the technology acceptance model’s applicability in understanding employees’ acceptance of online platforms for knowledge sharing in organisations. Specifically, this research explores gender differences in using online platforms for sharing knowledge at the workplace in an emerging market context and the role of individuals’ motivation in online platform usage in organisations. Design/methodology/approach A web-based survey was conducted in Vietnam with 290 responses from employees in the banking and insurance industries. Findings Both intrinsic and extrinsic motivations influenced the perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness and online platform usage for knowledge sharing. The results also confirm a significant influence of perceived ease of use directly on knowledge sharing behaviour using online platforms and indirectly via perceived usefulness. Regarding gender differences, perceived ease of use was more salient in women, while men considered perceived usefulness to a greater extent. Research limitations/implications This study provides a complete picture of gender, motivation and technology used for knowledge sharing in organisational settings. Originality/value This research has provided additional insight into the importance of gender and motivation in technology acceptance. By doing this, this study helps organisations capture the potential of valuable human resources for their competitiveness.

Manual activities of workers in palm oil factories cause pain complaints that can be resolved with an ergonomic program. However, the uncertainty of the success of the ergonomic program requires active involvement from workers. This study aims to discuss the role of workers’ perceptions towards the success of the ergonomic program intervention in palm oil mills. By referring to the theory of reasoned action and technology acceptance model, acceptance of workers to ergonomics programs are influenced by perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and perceived trust. All these research variables were analyzed simultaneously using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) software, in which data were obtained from questionnaires given to 280 people working in 20 palm oil mills in North Sumatra Province. The sampling method used is simple random sampling and model estimation is performed using PLS regression algorithm and resampling bootstrapping method. The result shows that perceived usefulness has the biggest effect on the success of the ergonomic program, followed by perceived trust and perceived ease of use, which has a smaller effect. This study focuses on workers’ perception that needs to be considered for facing uncertain results in implementing an ergonomic program.
