The incredible complexity of the United States health care system can be connected to three simple outcomes: access, affordability, and quality. We should measure our progress against these three measures. While historic progress on access was made through implementation of the Affordable Care Act, the next area of focus for more results across all three measures is delivery system reform.

Abstract Internal medicine physicians are critical to the health of the population. Internal medicine doctors also bring cost savings in health care because they treat many systems in the body and treat the patients in a holistic manner. However, the popularity of the specialty of internal medicine is declining. This is due to the decreased compensation that internal medicine doctors obtain when compared to their colleagues who specialize in other fields. The decline in number of physicians specializing in internal medicine causes a decrease in the health of the population. Governments and policy makers must look for ways to reverse the trend of doctors not specializing in internal medicine

This chapter concludes the book and looks to the future. The teams and partnerships for health are clearly underway across the United States. From this point on, health care professionals and other agencies will all need to incorporate lessons learned and practices adopted into training programs, for all the health and related disciplines. Rather than learn what makes a difference in health, the aim should be to discover and then teach what makes a difference for some, and what works better for others. Training would be best carried out in teams, so the skills of teamwork and partnership are not just ideas, but practiced skills. The chapter concludes with this thought: health is something we can achieve together, but that no person or group can achieve alone.
