In this paper, we have investigated some of the most recent energy efficient routing protocols for wireless body area networks. This technology has seen advancements in recent times where wireless sensors are injected in the human body to sense and measure body parameters like temperature, heartbeat and glucose level. These tiny wireless sensors gather body data information and send it over a wireless network to the base station. The data measurements are examined by the doctor or physician and the suitable cure is suggested. The whole communication is done through routing protocols in a network environment. Routing protocol consumes energy while helping non-stop communication in a wireless environment. Because of the very tiny size, energy consumption matters a lot. We have focused on the protocols, which provide energy efficiency and improve network lifetime, through put and minimal path loss. We will be discussing some of the most recent energy efficient routing protocols in this paper; later their comparison with an appropriate table is presented. In addition, recent challenges, possible application and perspectives are discussed.

Energy efficiency has been considered as the most important issue in wireless sensor networks. As in many applications, wireless sensors are scattered in a wide harsh area, where the battery replacement or charging will be quite difficult and it is the most important challenge. Therefore, the design of energy saving mechanism becomes mandatory in most recent research. In this paper, a new energy efficient clustered routing protocol is proposed: the proposed protocol is based on analyzing the data collected from the sensors in a base-station. Based on this analysis the cluster head will be selected as the one with the most useful data. Then, a variable time slot is specified to each sensor to minimize the transmission of repetitive and un-useful data. The proposed protocol Data-Based Energy Efficient Clustered Routing Protocol for Wireless Sensors Networks (DCRP) was compared with the famous energy efficient LEACH protocol and also with one of the recent energy efficient routing protocols named Position Responsive Routing Protocol (PRRP). DCRP has been used in monitoring the floods in Tabuk area –Saudi Arabia. It shows comparatively better results.

The wireless sensor network that are randomly distributed with ability to communicate and to be communicated wirelessly appears to be vital part in the Internetwork of things to enable an autonomous communication between the visible commodities available in the tangible world. The process of the connection establishment between the WSNs and IOT for the purpose of information transmission is significant as it has to be reliable overcoming the challenges entitled in the wireless sensor networks. So the paper proposes an efficient clustering of WSN with a hierarchical proactive routing to have a transmission that affords within the limited battery availability and extended life of the network to have an improvised successful transmission rate, and diminished delay. The performance evaluation of the proposed system is conducted and compared with the previous methods to prove the energy efficiency and the QOS enhancements in terms of transmission rate and delay.
