This work deals with direct coupling of membrane separation and photocatalytic degradation by using photocatalytic ceramic membranes. An unusual configuration is considered here, with the irradiation applied on the permeate side of the membrane in order to mineralize small organic molecules not retained by the membrane. Different types of such membranes are presented. Their functional performance is quantified thanks to a simple experimental method enabling the estimation of the specific degradation rate δ, i.e., the quantity of destroyed organic molecules per unit of time and of membrane surface area. The relevance of δ for the design and scale-up of purification units is then illustrated. Finally, current technological challenges and potential solutions concerning the industrial implementation of such photocatalytic membranes are discussed.

Investigation porous elastic filter material deep treatment of drinking water contamination removal in effect. The membrane separation system to meet the requirements of the feed water quality, in this paper the new type of porous elastic filter material compression filter technology and traditional quartz sand filter technology water depth contrast the treatment effect experimental study. The results showed that different compression ratio of porous elastic filter material to filter pollutants has good removal efficiency, and better than quartz sand. Porous elastic filter material compression ratio and turbidity, the average iron removal rate was significantly positive correlation. The compression ratio for 70% of the porous elastic filter material after filter, and the effluent turbidity of, iron, CODMn and DOC average concentration of were 0.35 NTU, 0.05, mg • L-1,1.73 mg • L-1 and the 1.48 mg • L-1; Basic meet the membrane separation system of the feed water quality requirements.

AbstractFatty acids (FAs) are a very important group of raw materials for chemical industry, and the technology of separating or purifying the FAs from the reaction product mixture has always been the hotspot of research. Membrane processes for separation of FAs are being increasingly reported. Compared with conventional FAs separation methods, membrane separation has the advantages of low energy consumption, system compactness, high separation efficiency, easy scale-up, high available surface area per unit volume and low working temperatures, thereby attracting considerable attention of many researchers. In this regards, this paper critically reviewed the developments of methods for FAs separation and purification, and the future prospects of coupling membrane technology with hydrolysis for enhanced production of FAs.
