Lightweight technology application in river-crossing and military bridge equipment has important significance to promote rapid development. Lightweight can efficiently reduce the weight, promote structure optimization and improve performance of the river-crossing and military bridge equipment. After basic principles and main technologies of the lightweight application in the river-crossing and military bridge equipment components are summarized, strength design technologies for the lightweight of the equipment components are discussed, and simple shape components strength design criteria under tension/ compression, bending, shearing and torsion are analyzed, which is extended to general lightweight components strength design criteria. On the basis of the lightweight design principles and strength design criteria, appropriate design methods and optimization strategies are selected, suitable lightweight high-strength material is chosen according to research and development demands, and the lightweight purpose for the river-crossing and military bridge equipment is realized.

The current local stability criteria (KBC2009, AISC2010) are enacted through theoretical and experimental studies of ordinary steels, but the mechanical properties of high strength steels are different from ordinary steels. The high strength steel in the applicability of design criteria should be needed to review because of increasing market demanding for high strength steel in the high-rise and long span buildings. In this study, stub columns of H-shaped and box section with various steel grades subjected to concentric loading were investigated, and these steels were checked to the applicability of current local stability criteria. The difference between the ordinary steel and high strength steel was compared. As a result of comparison with various steel grades, most specimens were satisfied with the design criteria, but some specimens with lower tensile strength were not reached the required strength. It is considered that the uncertainty of material was the higher when the tensile strength of material was the lower.

The present paper evaluates the traditional strength design criteria and recently developed plastic flow criteria used in the structural design and integrity assessment for pressure vessels. This includes (1) a brief review of the traditional strength criteria used in ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel (B&PV) Code, (2) a discussion of the shortcoming of existing strength criteria when used to predict the burst pressure of pressure vessels, (3) an analysis of challenges, technical gaps and basic needs to improve the traditional strength design criteria, (4) a comparison of strength theory and flow theory for ductile pressure vessels, (5) an evaluation of available flow criteria and their shortcoming in prediction of failure pressure of pressure vessels, (6) an introduction of newly developed multi-axial flow criterion and its application to pressure vessels, and (7) a demonstration of experimental validations of the new flow criterion when used to predict the burst pressure of pressure vessels. On this basis, several recommendations are made for further study to improve the existing strength design and integrity assessment methods of pressure vessels.

At present there are no national codes for the design of exposed hydro-electric penstocks. Thus an engineer must either make reference to other national codes for similar work, such as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers boiler and pressure vessel code or the American Water Works Association Standard for steel water piping, or he must write his own code and is then faced with the decision of having to select design criteria that must cover a wide range of steels; different operating and waterhammer conditions; a wide range of quality control procedures used in manufacture and erection of the penstock; and different types of penstocks, isostatic where the stresses can be calculated with precision, and hyperstatic where the stress calculation is more imprecise. This paper discusses design criteria, factors of safety, and corresponding quality control procedures that can be used for either isostatic or hyperstatic penstocks using mild, intermediate, or high strength steel for penstocks supplying reaction of impulse turbines.

Recently, many structures which were built about 30 years ago are watched by reconstruction. Demolished concrete is occurred in the process and these quantity increase about 10% more than the preceding year. Fortunately, recycled aggregates are produced from demolished concrete, whereas the recycled aggregates are not used often because there are not many researches which have been verified by experts or researchers about strength when reinforced concrete is made with recycled aggregates. In this paper, high strength reinforced concrete is valued with potential applications and check change of strength when it made by recycled aggregates. For this, flexural tests of 4 high strength reinforced concrete beams with recycled aggregates were performed, and the high strength reinforced concrete beams were tested within the limits such as compressive strength, flexural strength, ductility, strain, and curvature. The current test data were examined in terms of flexural strength, along with the data from previously tested reinforced concrete beams with recycled aggregates.
