Social capital has an important role in mangrove ecosystem preservation. Changes to mangrove ecosystem services can affect elements of social capital. Ecotourism is one of the alternatives that can be developed in the mangrove area in the National Park. The purpose of the study was to give an overview of the correlation between several elements of social capital in supporting ecotourism in mangrove areas. This study was conducted in five villages in East Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan, namely Singa Geweh, Sangkima, Teluk Singkama, Teluk Pandan and Kandolo. There were 530 respondents from the five villages involved as informants or resource persons. The data were analyzed by Sequal Equation Modeling Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) method with SmartPLS. Based on the initial assessment by the scoring method, five social capital, i.e., trust, networking, community involvement, social norm and concern to mangrove had low criteria to support ecotourism in Kutai National Park (KNP) mangrove area. According to SEM-PLS analysis of the social capital variables, community involvement, social norms and trust had negative effect on the ecotourism. Trust and community involvement were relatively low in the four villages (Singa Geweh, Sangkima, Teluk Singkama, and Kandolo). They were associated with social norms. On the other hand, concern to mangrove, education and income levels and networking had positive effect and power to support ecosystem service of mangrove for ecotourism.

The Mangrove ecosystem has benefits, one of them as the buffer ecosystem. This research has purpose to know the relationship between community structure of Mangrove and the ecologycal factor in Pangpang bay, Alas Purwo National Park. The result from this research are Rhizophora apiculata has highiest INP is 96,44, Sonneratia alba has lowest INP is 35,47. Dominance indeks had by Ceciops tagal is 4,70. Diversity indeks of stiks Mangroves shown low value with Shanon Weiner (H') <0,32. Result of community coefisien shown that Rhizophora apiculata is 0,315. The result is ecologycal factor community structure have relation significantly.

AbstrakTaman Nasional Kutai (TNK) memiliki ± 5.227 ha hutan mangrove di sepanjang pesisir pantainya. Hampir 23% luas hutan mangrove ini mengalami degradasi akibat konversi lahan dan pemanfaatan yang merusak. Kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata) merupakan salah satu sumberdaya yang terdapat dalam ekosistem mangrove, yang dapat dimanfaatkan untuk budidaya sylvofishery. Pemanfaatan ini merupakan mata pencaharian alternatif bagi penduduk lokal dalam kawasan TNK agar dapat memenuhi kebutuhan hidupnya tanpa merusak hutan mangrove. Model pemanfaatan sylvofishery kepiting bakau disusun dari 5 submodel, yaitu habitat mangrove, penangkapan kepiting, budidaya pembesaran kepiting, pasar, dan sosial. Hasil simulasi terhadap model dinamik, menunjukkan bahwa skenario optimistik memberikan kinerja model yang lebih berkelanjutan untuk pengelolaan hutan mangrove di TNK, bila dilakukan dengan pendekatan optimasi pemanfaatan sumberdaya S. serrata. Dengan sylvofishery diharapkan akan terjadi keseimbangan antara pemanfaatan dan kelestarian lingkungan hutan mangrove.AbstractThe National Park Kutai (TNK) has ± 5,227 ha mangrove forest in along coastal beach. Therefore, almost 23% of mangrove forest was degraded caused by land conversion and utilization of damaged. Mud crab (Scylla serrata) is one of the resources in mangrove ecosystem, and it can be utilized for the cultivation sylvofishery. The utilization of sylvofishery was an alternative livelihood for the local resident in TNK areas that was not damaged their forest necessity. The model of sylvofishery utilization mud crab prepared were 5 sub-models, such as mangrove habitat sub-model, catching mud crab sub-model, enlargement cultivation of mud crab sub-model, market sub-model and social sub-model. The simulation results showed that an optimistic scenario performance model to sustainable for management of mangrove forest in TNK if it was conducted with optimization approached resources in utilization of S. serrata. With silvofishery, it is expected to give a balance between utilization and conservation of mangrove ecosystems.

Study on plant community structure was undertaken in different altitudinal ranges of Shivapuri National Park. The general objective of this study is to analyse different plant community structure in Shivapuri National Park with regards to altitudinal variation. The forest was divided into three distinct altitudinal ranges on the basis of dominancy. In each altitudinal range standard quadrats method was applied for vegetation analysis. The highest number of species was found in site II. All the ecological parameters of the plant species were higher in site II except Basal Area of tree that was highest in site III. The pattern of distribution of plant species was not uniform according to altitude. At higher elevation, the forest was mature with almost closed canopy and trees were large; so the tree density was low. Species richness was highest in site II. Species diversity among tree and shrub species was higher in site I. But for herb species diversity was higher in site II for both seasons. Such type of variations may be due to nature of soil i.e. acidity, nutrient availability and other micro-climatic factors. The most noteworthy thing was that variation in flower colour of Rhododendron arboreum i.e. deep scarlet at low altitude, but it gradually changed into pinkish white as altitude increased. Fauna diversity, production potential and total economic value of mangrove ecosystems in Mentawir Village, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 21: 1940-1953. Mangroves play important role in life. The benefits of the mangrove ecosystem consist of ecological and socio-economic values. However, it is a challenge to discern how the mangrove ecosystem provides a comprehensive economic value. This research is aimed to analyze the Total Economic Value (TEV) of mangrove ecosystems in Mentawir Village, North Penajam Paser District, East Kalimantan Province. This aim will be achieved by conducting fauna inventory, analysis of mangrove wood production potential, social-economic interviews, and infrastructure cost analysis as the inputs to calculate four elements (i.e. Direct Use Value, Indirect Use Value, Option Value, and Existence Value) to sum up the TEV. The research used a mixed-method combining both qualitative and quantitative methods. Fauna inventory was conducted using boat survey method and interviews with local fishermen. Data on mangrove wood production was obtained using the systematic random sampling method by establishing two plots with an area of one hectare for each plot to calculate mean annual increment (MAI) and current annual increment (CAI). The economic value of the mangrove ecosystem was calculated using market price values, replacement costs, and the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM). The results of fauna inventory consisted of 3 species of mammals, 1 species of reptile, 16 species of birds, 25 types of fish, 8 species of crustaceans, and 7 species of mollusks. The economic valuation resulted in the contribution of direct use value with 39.56% in the form of wood (94,875,000,000 IDR) and fishery products (103,500,000,000 IDR); indirect use value with 53.47% in the form of breakwater (38,028,881,407 IDR), abrasion resistance (218,549,528,110 IDR), and carbon sequestration (11,580,313,067); option value with 6.92% in the form of biodiversity (34,690,085,038 IDR); and existence value with 0.05% (241,500,000 IDR). All these resulted in the total economic value (TEV) of the mangrove ecosystem in Mentawir Village of 501,465,307,621 IDR. Therefore, this value can be the basis for policymakers in managing natural resources so that the ecosystem is more protected and sustainable, and can continue to provide environmental services for the welfare of the community.

Biodiversity indicators for the conservation of mangrove ecosystems of Xuan Thuy National Park were composed, taking into account the environmental, biotic, and anthropological factors, based on suggested indicators provided by the Convention on Biological Diversity. Relevant environmental, biotic, and anthropological factors, identified by bibliographic and field surveys, were ordered by Pressures, State, Benefits, and Responses categories following the guidance of the Biodiversity Indicators Partnership. Furthermore, the linked relationships among the indicators were identified for effective monitoring of biodiversity in Xuan Thuy National Park. Dựa trên các chỉ thị được gợi ý từ Công ước về Đa dạng sinh học, các chỉ thị đa dạng sinh học phục vụ công tác bảo tồn các hệ sinh thái rừng ngập mặn của Vườn Quốc gia Xuân Thủy đã được xây dựng, có tính đến các yếu tố môi trường, sinh học và con người. Các yếu tố môi trường, sinh học và con người có liên quan, được xác định bằng việc tổng hợp và đánh giá các tài liệu và các đợt điều tra ngoài thực địa, dưới trật tự các nhóm Áp lực, Tình trạng, Lợi ích và Đáp ứng theo hướng dẫn của Đối tác chỉ thị đa dạng sinh học. Hơn thế nữa, các mối quan hệ liên kết giữa các chỉ thị đã được xác định nhằm quan trắc hiệu quả đa dạng sinh học ở Vườn Quốc gia Xuân Thủy.

A study on Echinoderms community structure in marine national parks of Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi was conducted in six locations, i.e., Waha Beach, Coastal Sombo, Beach Houses, Beach Kapota, Banakawa beach, and Umala beach in October 2013. All of the six parks were located the Wakatobi territorial waters with coordinates of 5°06'25" S and 123°124'10 E. The results showed of 18 species of echinoderms representing six different types of Asteroidea, two types of Ophiuroidea, six types of Echinoidea, and four types of Holothuroidea. Group of starfish or Asteroidea was the most prominent on seagrass area. Based on the six transects sites, it turned out that the group of starfish (Asteridea) occupied a relatively high level of species richness. From the quantitative analysis values, we obtained diversity index (H) of 1.105 in Sombu, the highest evenness index (J) of 0.989 was found in Umala, and the highest species richness index values (D) of 0.132 was obtained in kapota. It seemed that all echinoderm groups were generally like seagrass microhabitat (12 types). While, sand and dead coral habitats were only occupied by 8 (eight) echinoderm groups.
