Protective Effects of Oral Gum Arabic Administration on Hyperlipidemia Experimentally Induced in Donkeys ( Equusasinus Asinus )

Taurine chloramine (TauCl) is an endogenous anti-inflammatory substance which is derived from taurine, a semi-essential sulfur-containing β-amino acid found in some foods including meat, fish, eggs and milk. In general, TauCl as well as its parent compound taurine downregulates production of tissue-damaging proinflammatory mediators, such as chemokines and cytokines in many different types of cells. In the present study, we investigated the protective effects of TauCl on experimentally induced colon inflammation. Oral administration of TauCl protected against mouse colitis caused by 2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS). TauCl administration attenuated apoptosis in the colonic mucosa of TNBS-treated mice. This was accompanied by reduced expression of an oxidative stress marker, 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal and proinflammatory molecules including tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-6 and cyclooxygenase-2 in mouse colon. TauCl also inhibited activation of NFκB and STAT3, two key transcription factors mediating proinflammatory signaling. Notably, the protective effect of TauCl on oxidative stress and inflammation in the colon of TNBS-treated mice was associated with elevated activation of Nrf2 and upregulation of its target genes encoding heme oxygenase-1, NAD(P)H:quinone oxidoreductase, glutamate cysteine ligase catalytic subunit, and glutathione S-transferase. Taken together, these results suggest that TauCl exerts the protective effect against colitis through upregulation of Nrf2-dependent cytoprotective gene expression while blocking the proinflammatory signaling mediated by NFκB and STAT3.

Objective: Endometriosis is characterized by the growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. The prevalence of endometriosis among women experiencing pain, infertility, or both is as high as 35% to 50%. The most common symptoms of endometriosis are dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, chronic pelvic pain, and infertility. Evidence has suggested that endometriosis symptoms result from a local inflammatory peritoneal reaction caused by ectopic endometrial implants that undergo cyclic bleeding. On the other hand, regular physical exercise seems to have protective effects against diseases that involve inflammatory processes such as type 2 diabetes and colon and breast cancer. On this basis, it is possible that the practice of physical exercise may have beneficial effects on endometriosis. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the possible anti-inflammatory effect of physical exercise on endometriosis experimentally induced in rats. Study Design: Seventy female Wistar rats were divided into 7groups of 10 animals each. Animals performed light exercise (swimming once a week), moderate exercise (swimming 3 times a week), and intense exercise (swimming 5 times a week) before or after endometriosis induction. Results: At the end of the experimental protocol, a reduction in the size of endometriotic lesions was observed after physical exercise regardless of its frequency, with a greater reduction in the groups practicing moderate and intense activity; an increase in FAS levels and a decrease in matrix metalloproteinases 9 and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA)levels was also observed. The immunohistochemistry results did not lead to conclusive results. As expected, oxidative stress was reduced in all groups. These results show that the practice of physical exercise could be beneficial, at least in part, for the treatment of endometriosis.

Gum arabic (GA) is an exudate from acacia seyal and acacia senegal trees, which belong to the leguminosae family. There are many applications for GA, such as use as a food additive, shelf-life enhancement, microencapsulation, satiety induction, use as anti-obesity, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory agent, use as an anticoagulant, and applications in tumor imaging and nanotechnology. Little has been described about the mechanisms by which GA provides its protective effects, especially its role as an antioxidant, to different body tissues and organs. The aim of this study was to review the recent evidence of the antioxidant effects of GA on different body organs and tissues. The new PubMed system, which was recently released in October 2019, was used to collect and analyze data for this review. There were only seven articles in PubMed that described the antioxidant and protective effects of GA on different body organs and tissues in the period from January 2015 to November 2019; there be four articles from 2019. The results of these studies revealed the protective and antioxidant effects of GA on the liver, kidney and blood and cardiovascular system in experimentally induced injuries of these organs and tissues. Further studies are required to study the protective and antioxidant effects of GA on other body organs and tissues. The new PubMed system is a powerful and smart tool for searching and collecting data and for saving researchers time and effort; it is highly recommended to be widely used.
