Abstract Background Hemodialysis (HD) is a protein catabolic event. However, the amino acid (AA) kinetics during HD sessions involved in protein breakdown have not been well investigated in patients with and without diabetes mellitus (DM). Case presentation Three patients (two patients with DM and one patient without DM) underwent fasting HD. Plasma levels of branched-chain AAs (BCAA; leucine, isoleucine, and valine), major non-essential AAs (alanine and glutamine, including glutamate), insulin, and ketone bodies were measured every hour during each HD session. After the start of the HD session, the plasma levels of insulin and all BCAAs dropped simultaneously. There was a significant subsequent increase in the plasma level of leucine and isoleucine levels, while valine levels remained constant. However, the recovery in levels of BCAAs during HD indicated a profound amount of BCAAs entering the blood from body tissues such as muscles. BCAAs may have surpassed their removal by HD. Ketone body levels increased continuously from the start of the sessions and reached high values in patients with DM. Synchronous changes in insulin depletion and an increase in the levels of ketone bodies may indicate disruption of energy metabolism. Conclusions This is the first report to demonstrate the time course of the changes in circulating levels of BCAAs and related metabolites in energy homeostasis during HD. An increase in BCAA levels during HD was found to be due to their transfer from the body tissue which suggested protein breakdown.

Background: Silicone or foreign materials injection is widely used for aesthetic breast augmentation and reconstructions in many countries. Once injected, it will stimulate a foreign body reaction between body tissues and silicone. This reaction can cause the formation of a granuloma known as siliconoma, which represent by the lumping at the breast. This symptom usually mimics breast cancer and sometimes be the origin of breast cancer. This paper is focused on the discussion on radiographic appearance of silicone and a case study of breast siliconoma. Case Study: A 66-year-old Chinese female with a family history of cancer presents with palpable painless lumps in her breasts. The lumps were present in both breasts without any mobility and other inflammatory processes. Mammographic examination demonstrated a dense bilateral mass towards the chest wall and asymmetrical rounded densities in both breasts. There are no breast cancer indications were reported. The pathology demonstrated a siliconoma.

Sexuality transmitted infections are often also reffered to as veneral diseases. The spread can be from blood, sperm, or can also be transmitted from mother to fetus during pregnancy and birth, and through the blood and body tissues. In addition, spread can also without sexual intercourse, it can be from the use of syringes repeatedly or alternately, among people, as well as the risk of transmitting infection. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of reproduction health education using peer mentoring method towards the knowledge level of patients with sexuality transmitted infection. The study used one group pretest-posttest design. The data was collected by using a questionnaire. The respondent was selected by using total sampling technique and 27 respondents were obtained. The data was analyzed by using the Wilcoxon test. The result of the  value = 0,000, which meant  value < α (α = 0.05) there was an effect of reproduction health education using peer mentoring method towards the knowledge level of patients with sexuality transmitted infection. For researchers, next expected can be used as information to developed a method of information in other research.

In this work we present a multi-layer channel model for terahertz communication that incorporates both layers of human body tissues and textile layers. Many research works tackled communication channel modelling in human body alone while some other research focused on textile characterization/modelling alone. There is a real gap in connecting these different models. To investigate this, a multi-layer channel model for terahertz communication is developed, this model assumes external textile layer stacked over layers of human body tissues. The electromagnetic properties of the different layers are extracted from previous works that used time domain spectroscopy (TDS) in the terahertz band to characterize each of the considered layers. The model is implemented as a flexible MATLAB/Octave program that enables the simulation of layers with either fixed or random depths. This paper aims to pave the way to connecting patients’ in-body nano-nodes with off-body (on-cloth) nano-nodes by building such a combined channel model. This helps in many applications especially in the medical field. For example, having connected nano-nodes can help in diagnosing diseases, monitoring health by sending information to the external environment, treatment (e.g., increasing or decreasing a certain dose depending on the monitoring), etc. The obtained results show how the THz signal can be affected when it propagates through heterogeneous mediums (i.e., human body tissues and textile). Various types of path-loss has been calculated for this purpose and verified by comparison with results from previous research on separate models of human body and textile.

<em>This study aimed to analyze the agreement object as good deeds from the legal philosophy perspective. Postulated to legal positivism, this rejects the deviation of the agreement on the good deed of transplanting organs or body tissues. The results compiled using normative legal research methods described the flow of consequentialism and deontology. These doctrines state that kidney transplant procedures conducted voluntarily based on humanity have benefited recipients and donors. Therefore, they increase the happiness level of both parties without leaving the concept of Kantian moral ethics.</em>

Hunter syndrome, or mucopolysaccharidosis type 2 (MPS2), is a lysosomal storage disorder associated with the involvement of multiple organs such as the central nervous system, hepatomegaly, musculoskeletal, respiratory, cardiac, and hearing. This is due to the accumulation of glycosaminoglycans in body tissues leading to organ failure. Since the laboratories in Kenya do not screen for metabolic diseases, there is the likelihood of assumption that these patients do not exist. These first cases were referred from the eastern part of Kenya where the majority of inhabitants are from the same ethnic community. It was noted that there was increased mortality among boys below the age of 20 years, and hence, the families sought for help in the national referral and teaching hospital. The case series is meant to show that these cases exist and the majority of the patients may be dying before the diagnosis is made. There are no data on MPS2 from Kenya, and the prevalence and incidence are unknown. In this retrospective study, we present a case series of 6 Kenyan boys with MPS2 from a national referral hospital. They were part of 17 patients who had had their blood analyzed for metabolic diseases. All of them were symptomatic with varying degrees of central nervous system involvement. They had undetectable levels of iduronate-2-sulfatase (I2S) enzyme, and three genetic mutations were detected in the IDS gene.

A sedentary lifestyle is associated with overweight/obesity, which involves excessive fat body accumulation, triggering structural and functional changes in tissues, organs, and body systems. Research shows that this fat accumulation is responsible for several comorbidities, including cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and metabolic dysfunctions, as well as pathological pain behaviors. These health concerns are related to the crosstalk between adipose tissue and body systems, leading to pathophysiological changes to the latter. To deal with these health issues, it has been suggested that physical exercise may reverse part of these obesity-related pathologies by modulating the cross talk between the adipose tissue and body systems. In this context, this review was carried out to provide knowledge about (i) the structural and functional changes in tissues, organs, and body systems from accumulation of fat in obesity, emphasizing the crosstalk between fat and body tissues; (ii) the crosstalk between fat and body tissues triggering pain; and (iii) the effects of physical exercise on body tissues and organs in obese and non-obese subjects, and their impact on pathological pain. This information may help one to better understand this crosstalk and the factors involved, and it could be useful in designing more specific training interventions (according to the nature of the comorbidity).

Tamaka Shwasa (Bronchial asthma) is one of the stressful medical conditions of today's era and is well known for its episodic and chronic course which affects the whole human race. Tamaka shwasa is a disease in which the pa- tient experiences severe symptoms of respiratory distress with extreme weakness, fatigue and mental glooming. Tamaka Shwasa can be correlated with the disease Bronchial Asthma based on its features & etiopathogenesis. Here the sincere effort has been made using Kunjal kriya a shodhana chikitsa and Agastya Haritaki as Rasayana. Rasayana plays an important role in the rejuvenation of body tissues and providing strength to patients. A male patient of Age 40 years with a history of Tamaka shwasa from last 5 years. The Patient has all classical symptoms like Shwasakashtata, Kasa, Kaphashteevan, Aruchi, Parshvashula, Asino Labhate Saukhyam, Ghurghuraka comes at O.P.D of Govt. Ayurvedic Hospital Model Gram Ludhiana, On Auscultation of chest wheezing present bilater- ally in lungs. The patient was using short-acting Bronchodilator puffs almost 3-4 puffs in a day. So, this case of Tamaka shwasa is treated with Kunjal Kriya a Yogic Shodhana Karma once a week followed by Rasayana for four weeks. All this was done after examination of Bala of the Patient. In this case, it was observed patient got good relief in all cardinal symptoms of Tamaka shwasa. Keywords: Rasayana, Kunjal Kriya, Tamaka Shwasa

Gyrate atrophy (GA) of the choroid and retina is a rare autosomal recessive genetic condition characterized by elevation of the plasma level of the amino acid ornithine due to deficiency of the enzyme ornithine ketoacid aminotransferase. Accumulation of ornithine occurs in various body tissues but leads primarily to characteristic ophthalmic manifestations including myopia, cataract, progressive chorioretinal atrophy, and macular changes. Patients usually present with night blindness that starts in the first decade of life followed by visual field constriction and eventually diminution of the central visual acuity and blindness. The condition has been reported worldwide and its differential diagnosis is broad and includes choroideremia and retinitis pigmentosa. Treatment currently depends on life-long dietary modifications including restriction of the amino acid arginine in diet. This article describes in detail the pathogenesis, clinical features, multimodal imaging findings, and treatment options for GA of the choroid and retina and its complications.

BACKGROUND: The ability of the lower-extremity muscle activation directly affects the performance and in turn interacts with the loading conditions of the muscle itself. However, systematic information concerning the characteristics of lower-extremity muscle during landings is lacking. In particular, the landing height and shoes are also important factors based on the actual situation, which could further contribute to understanding the neuromuscular activity and how biochemical response of the body tissues to double-leg drop landings. OBJECTIVE: The study was to investigate the effects of landing tasks on the activation of lower-extremity muscles and explore the relationship among movement control, landing heights, shoe cushioning, and muscle activities. METHODS: Twelve male basketball players were recruited to perform drop jump (DJ) and passive landing (PL) from three heights (30, 45, and 60 cm) while wearing highly-cushioned basketball shoes (HC) and less-cushioned control shoes (LC). EMG electrodes were used to record the activities of the target muscles (rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, biceps femoris, tibialis anterior, and lateral gastrocnemius) during the landing tasks. RESULTS: Pre- and post-activation activity of the lower-extremity muscles significantly decreased during PL compared with those during DJ (p< 0.05). No significant shoe effects on the characteristics of muscle activation and coactivation during DJ movements were observed. However, the participants wearing LC showed significantly higher muscle post-activation (p< 0.05) at the three drop heights during PL compared with those wearing HC. Coactivation of the ankle muscles was higher in LC than in HC during 30-cm PL (p< 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The activation patterns of lower-extremity muscles can be significantly influenced by landing types. Highly-cushioned basketball shoes would help reduce the risk of injuries by appropriately tuning the muscles during the PL.
