44 male university students were administered a 12-item true-false questionnaire to determine whether they conceptualized success and failure in terms of internal or external locus of control. They were also administered a measure of fear of failure (the Hostile Press measure). It was predicted that persons high on Hostile Press would be higher on external locus of control than the lows. The prediction was borne out. This study has been repeated twice, once with high school students, and the results have been equivalent.

The aim of this study is to examine how career maturity levels of high school students predict their career desicion-making difficulties according to their locus of control. The sample consisted of 562 (321 female, 241 male) students from 4 different High Schools affiliated with the ministry of national education in city center of Adana province. In the study, Career Decision Difficulties Questionnaire which was developed by Gati and Saka (2001) and adapted to Turkish by Bacanlı (2008), Rotter’s Internal and External Locus of Control Scale developed by Rotter (1966) and adapted to Turkish by Dağ (1991; 2002) and Career Maturity Scale developed by Kuzgun and Bacanlı (2005) were used. The pearson moment product correlation coefficient technique was used for the analysis of the relationship between variables Regression analysis was used for the power to predict career desicion making difficulties scores of career maturity of students with internal and external locus of control. According to the findings, career maturity predicts career desicion-making difficulties and its subscales. In addition, the level of career maturity of the students with internal locus of control has reached the level of career decision making difficulties more than the students with external locus of control. Extended English summary is in the end of Full Text PDF (TURKISH) file.ÖzetBu araştırmanın amacı, lise öğrencilerinin denetim odaklarına göre mesleki olgunluk düzeylerinin kariyer karar verme güçlüklerini ne kadar yordadığını incelemektir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu dört farklı anadolu lisesinde öğrenim gören 321’i kız ve 241’i erkek olmak üzere toplam 562 öğrenci oluşturmuştur.

Internal-External locus of control and alcohol use were investigated among high school students, and it was found that external control was positively related to problem-oriented motivations and social complications. A developmental model for the relationship between I-E control and drinking is proposed.

Counsellors need to be able to understand perfectionism in students, and the different forms that this perfectionism may take, in order to provide their students with the appropriate counselling services. This study investigated gender differences in perfectionism, and examined the relationship of perfectionism to general self-efficacy, life-satisfaction, academic achievement and satisfaction with academic achievement among a sample of 419 high school students (47.0% female, 53.0% male). Data were collected using five scales: (1) The Almost Perfect Scale — Revised (APS-R; Slaney, Rice, Mobley, Trippi, & Ashby, 2001); (2) the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES; Schwarzer & Jerusalem, 1995); (3) the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS; Diener, Emmons, Larsen & Griffin, 1985); (4) a single item scale for measuring satisfaction with academic achievement; and (5) a demographic information form. Results indicated that females are significantly more perfectionist than males. Adaptive perfectionists had higher self-efficacy, satisfaction with life, academic achievement and satisfaction with academic achievement than did both maladaptive perfectionists and nonperfectionists. Furthermore, there were no significant differences between maladaptive perfectionists and nonperfectionists on any of these variables. This implies that prevention and intervention programs should be designed to enable high school students to set realistically high standards.

Mathematical literacy and self-efficacy of students in terms of differences in zoning system policies.AbstractThis study aimed to (1) describe the mathematical literacy abilities and self-efficacy of eleventh-grade senior high school students; (2) describe the impact of differences in zoning system policies on the mathematical literacy and self-efficacy of eleventh-grade senior high school students; and (3) describe the relationship between mathematical literacy and self-efficacy of eleventh-grade senior high school students. This survey involved 346 students from Banjarmasin City and 321 students from Palangka Raya City, Indonesia. The two cities have different zoning policies. The data was collected through tests and questionnaires that met the valid and reliable criteria. The data analysis technique used was descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that students’ mathematical literacy in Banjarmasin and Palangka Raya City was in a low category, while self-efficacy in both cities was in the medium category. There was no significant difference in the mean of mathematical literacy of students in Banjarmasin and Palangka Raya City. However, there was a significant difference in the mean of self-efficacy of students in Banjarmasin and Palangka Raya City. The zoning policy in Palangka Raya City causes differences in the mean of mathematical literacy of students in high, moderate, and low category schools. In contrast, the zoning policy in Banjarmasin City causes differences in the mean of self-efficacy of students in high, medium, and low category schools. Lastly, there was a significant positive correlation (although weak) between mathematical literacy and self-efficacy of eleventh-grade senior high school students in Banjarmasin and Palangka Raya City (r = 0.194).
