Internal-External locus of control and alcohol use were investigated among high school students, and it was found that external control was positively related to problem-oriented motivations and social complications. A developmental model for the relationship between I-E control and drinking is proposed.

In 97 high school students, lower external locus of control scores were associated weakly with suicidal preoccupation, in contrast to the results of an earlier study of college students.

44 male university students were administered a 12-item true-false questionnaire to determine whether they conceptualized success and failure in terms of internal or external locus of control. They were also administered a measure of fear of failure (the Hostile Press measure). It was predicted that persons high on Hostile Press would be higher on external locus of control than the lows. The prediction was borne out. This study has been repeated twice, once with high school students, and the results have been equivalent.

The aim of this study is to examine how career maturity levels of high school students predict their career desicion-making difficulties according to their locus of control. The sample consisted of 562 (321 female, 241 male) students from 4 different High Schools affiliated with the ministry of national education in city center of Adana province. In the study, Career Decision Difficulties Questionnaire which was developed by Gati and Saka (2001) and adapted to Turkish by Bacanlı (2008), Rotter’s Internal and External Locus of Control Scale developed by Rotter (1966) and adapted to Turkish by Dağ (1991; 2002) and Career Maturity Scale developed by Kuzgun and Bacanlı (2005) were used. The pearson moment product correlation coefficient technique was used for the analysis of the relationship between variables Regression analysis was used for the power to predict career desicion making difficulties scores of career maturity of students with internal and external locus of control. According to the findings, career maturity predicts career desicion-making difficulties and its subscales. In addition, the level of career maturity of the students with internal locus of control has reached the level of career decision making difficulties more than the students with external locus of control. Extended English summary is in the end of Full Text PDF (TURKISH) file.ÖzetBu araştırmanın amacı, lise öğrencilerinin denetim odaklarına göre mesleki olgunluk düzeylerinin kariyer karar verme güçlüklerini ne kadar yordadığını incelemektir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu dört farklı anadolu lisesinde öğrenim gören 321’i kız ve 241’i erkek olmak üzere toplam 562 öğrenci oluşturmuştur.

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship for 208 junior high school students between the Adapted Modified Role Repertory Test, a measure of cognitive complexity, and Rotter's Internal-External Locus of Control Scale which measures locus-of-control. No significant correlation appeared.

In a sample of 97 high school students, serious suicidal ideation was associated with high scores on Beck's depression inventory and an external locus of control on Rotter's scale, confirming Lester's depression paradox hypothesis of suicide.

Locus of control and self-monitoring were measured in three age groups in Changchun, northeastern China: 164 junior high school students (12–15 yr.), 121 college students (16–26 yr.), and 46 adults (29–57 yr.). Analysis indicated that adults and college students scored higher on locus of control ( Ms = 10.0 and 9.2, scores indicating the number of external control beliefs affirmed) than high school students ( M = 6.1) and that adults scored lower on self-monitoring ( M = 8.7) than college and high school students ( Ms = 11.6 and 10.6). Such differences seem attributable to the interaction between individual development and some societal factors that are believed to foster external control beliefs and propensity to self-monitoring.

The purpose of this quantitative study was to investigate the relationship between academic outcomes and locus control beliefs among high school students in the Northern Region of Ghana.  Using survey methods and multivariate analyses, the results found relatively higher scores in external locus of control beliefs than internal locus of control beliefs among the study participants. External locus of control was inversely related to test scores, and no relationship was found between internal locus of control beliefs and test scores. The results also found significant differences in locus of control beliefs between rural and urban high school students, with urban students reporting higher internal locus of control beliefs than their rural counterparts. Implications for educational policy and practice are discussed.
