A Phylogenic Analysis of Citrus Cultivars Native to Jeju using Chloroplast DNA trnL-trnF and Internal Transcribed Spacer Region Sequences

Paralamium (Lamiaceae) is a monotypic genus within the subfamily Lamioideae and has a sporadic distribution in subtropical mountains of southeast Asia. Although recent studies have greatly improved our understanding of generic relationships within Lamioideae, the second most species-rich subfamily of Lamiaceae, the systematic position of Paralamium within the subfamily remains unclear. In this study, we investigate the phylogenetic placement of the genus using three datasets: (1) a 69,276 bp plastome alignment of Lamiaceae; (2) a five chloroplast DNA region dataset of tribe Pogostemoneae, and (3) a nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region dataset of Pogostemoneae. These analyses demonstrate that Paralamium is a member of Pogostemoneae and sister to the monotypic genus Craniotome. In addition, generic-level phylogenetic relationships within Pogostemoneae are also discussed, and a dichotomous key for genera within Pogostemoneae is provided.

A new species of Trogia (Marasmiaceae, Basidiomycota) is described from West Bengal, India. Analysis of the molecular sequence (nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region) data suggests that T. benghalesis is phylogenetically distinct from its closely related species. Comprehensive description based on macro- and microscopic characters, photographs and comparisons with morphologically similar and phylogenetically related species are provided.

Abstract The mushroom Agaricus subrufescens has been synonymous with Agaricus blazei and Agaricus brasiliensis during the last decades and there has been much discussion with regards to the origin, distribution, and nomenclature of this mushroom. Therefore, we conducted a genetic and morphological characterization of the mycelium and mushroom of four commercial strains currently cultivated in Brazil (ABL CS7, ABL 18/01, ABL 98/11, and ABL 16/01) together with an assessment of their agronomic behavior and compared these results with those of other strains used during the last 15 years. All the A. subrufescens strains characterized here are phylogenetically related to the Americas/Europe specimens, bearing an internal transcribed spacer region of type A (ABL 16/01) or both types A and B (ABL 18/01, ABL 98/11, and ABL CS7). We did not find any correlation between the morphological characteristics of the mycelial colonies and the agronomic behavior of the strains. Strains ABL 98/11 and ABL 16/01 produced the best yields and morphological characteristics for the mushrooms, indicating their high weight, which enhances the commercialization of the mushroom and justifies their longstanding commercial use over the last 15 years.
