A new series of metal Complexes were prepared by refluxing nickel chloride with hot methanolic solution mixture of 8-Hydroxyquinoline and Schiff bases(L1-L6). Schiff base ligands were synthesised by the condensation of 4-aminopheno, 4-aminosalicylic acid, 2-aminobenzthiazole with salicylaldehyde and vanillin. The metal complexes have been characterised by gravimetric metal analysis, magnetic moment, conductivity measurement, 1HNMR and IR analysis.

Metal(II) complexes of hydrazine derived Schiff-base ligands of the type M(L)2Cl2 where M = Co, Cu, Ni and Zn and L = L1 and L2 have been prepared and characterised by molar conductance, magnetic moment, elemental analysis and electronic, IR, H-NMR and C13 spectral data. The different modes of chelation of the ligands and their comparative biological properties against different bacterial species are reported.

A series of Isatin derivative Schiff Base ligands have been prepared by the nucleophilic addition of 5-Bromo Isatin with various amine derivatives and characterized by CHNS analysis and spectral data. Similarly, two of Salicylaldehyde ligand have been prepared by the nucleophilic addition of Salal with amine derivatives. In order to investigate the coordination behavior of these ligands and their metal complexes of the type M(acac)x, L [M = Cu(II), Ni(II); L = Schiff base ligands; x = 0 or 2] mixed ligand (chelate) have been prepared from the reaction of these ligands with their corresponding metal (Ni, Cu) acetylacetonates. The present paper was an approach to understand the chelating mixed ligand formation in complexes. All the isolated Shiff base ligands and mixed acac metal complexes were characterized by using IR, 1H NMR, UV-VIS, molar conductance and TGA/DTA analysis. The biological activities of all the isolated ligands and their corresponding mixed acac metal complexes have been used to screening against the microorganisms both gram positive and gram negative bacteria such as E.coli and S.sureus respectively, fungi A.niger and C.albicans and the results have been compared with standard and control. The main idea of these types of biological screening is to understand the role of these isolated compounds in pharmaceutical industries for drug development.

Aminomethylation of benzoxazolidin-2–one was carried out by treating benzoxazolidin-2–one with formaldehyde and 4 – aminosalicylic acid. The resultant compound was designated as 3–(4-carboxy–3 - hydroxyphenyl aminomethyl) benzoxazolidin-2-one (CHPA-BOX) The transition metal complexes of Cu2+Co2+Ni2+, Mn2+, Zn2+, UO2+and Fe3+of CHPA-BOX have been prepared. Elemental analyses, spectral studies, magnetic moment determination, molar conductivity measurement and microbial activity of CHPA-BOX and its metal complexes were carried out.

Aminomethylation (i.e.Mannich reaction) of benzimidazole was carried out by treating benzimidalzole with formaldehyde and 4-aminosalicylic acid. The resultant compound was designated as 1-(4-carboxy-3-hydroxyphenyl aminomethyl) benzimidazole (BI-SA). The transition metal complexes of Cu2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Mn2+, Zn2+and Fe3+of BI-SA have been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, spectral studies, magnetic moment determination, molar conductivity measurement and microbicidal activity.
