In the process of organizing a convention, owners of conventions forward their requests to convention planners and leave the full organization of the event to convention planners. Therefore, convention planners perform all the purchases for the organization of a convention. Selecting the suitable convention hotel is a critical step for a successful convention, and for that reason, convention hotels should understand convention planners’ preferences in order to have success in convention tourism. The aim of this study is therefore to determine the primary convention hotel selection criteria of convention planners operating in Ankara. The Delphi technique was used for the development of a data collection form. Data were gathered by conducting face to face interviews with managers from 13 travel agents in April, 2014. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was employed in the analysis of data. Findings indicate that facilities of the convention hotel, price, accessibility, site environment, and local support were clarified as the primary factors, respectively. Managerial implications for convention hotel managements are also discussed.

This paper argues the use of Analytic Hierarchy Process in service supplier selection process. The literature has evidence of important criteria for supply supplier selection process. However, there is a dearth of studies on service supplier selection process. To address this gap, this paper firstly systematically reviews the existing procurement literature, secondly, it argues for the use of alternative methods research to address questions related to ranking of selection criteria, and thirdly, it proposes and illustrates the use of Analytic Hierarchy Process to analyze the identified criteria. The paper concludes with limitations and further research directions.

Industrial site selection is the process of choosing the most suitable location(s) that meets the desired requirements set by the selection criteria. Siting an industry is a major long-term investment. In this sense, selection of the most suitable location is imperative in satisfying the social, economic, environmental, and sustainability requirements. Identifying the most suitable site(s) with desired requirements defined by the selection criteria is basically one of the key objectives of industrial site selection. The majority of the data used by managers and decision makers in industrial site selection are geographically related, which denotes the industrial site selection process to be a spatial decision issue. Therefore, this study employed Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) model to evaluate the location suitability of the existing industries Dammam Metropolitan Area (DMA) based on a number of decision criteria used in selecting the most suitable industrial sites. Priority weights were calculated after ranking each criterion using the Saaty’s 9 point scale of preference by the experts. Weights were calculated and further normalized through the AHP. The findings of the survey have been used to evaluate the existing and approved industrial sites in DMA. The study have reached an important conclusion and recommendations with regards to the existing and approved industrial sites in DMA.

This article presents a study of the contractors' preference for formwork system selection in Indonesian context. As decision makers, contractors are faced with challenges in choosing the formwork system for a particular project. While conventional timber formwork has been the most used formwork system in Indonesia, aluminium formwork is present although it has not been widely used. Thus, this research investigates the current practices of available formwork systems and its selection criteria in Indonesia. A decision-making framework (DMF) is developed by considering the appropriate assessment criteria for formwork system selection. This framework is then implemented through analytic hierarchy process technique. The result shows that contractors tend to choose aluminium formwork with a preference at 79% compared to conventional timber formwork with a preference at 21%. These findings can be used as considerations for contractors to start using aluminium formwork due to its excellence compared to conventional timber formwork. This study also proves that the proposed DMF can be applied and provides a sound decision related to formwork system selection.
