When I began work on this book, back in 2013, I had no nightmares of a man who would be elected to presidential office despite having been recorded bragging openly about ‘grab[bing]’ women ‘by the pussy’: a statement that echoes the worst of biblical pornoprophetic insults, as in Isaiah 3:17. Even the darkest of prophets could not have foretold the appointment of so many North American cabinet members accused of sexual assault, or such a concerted and centralized attack on Planned Parenthood, Black Lives Matter, and queer and migrant/refugee rights. As the essays in this collection clearly show, issues such as hardening borders, guns, and ...

Combined oestrogen-progestagen contraceptives, usually taken for three weeks out of four, are effective in preventing pregnancy. The small risks of thrombosis and embolism are on the whole decreased with reduced doses of oestrogen.1 The use of the combined pill is also associated with a number of metabolic changes, including marginal impairment of carbohydrate tolerance and of liver function and an increase in some plasma lipids. Most of these metabolic changes are produced by the oestrogen component, and recent studies suggest that the progestagen is relatively inactive in this respect.2 The British Committee on Safety of Medicines and the Medical Committee of the International Planned Parenthood Federation now recommend that the combined preparations should not contain more than 50 mcg (0.05 mg) of oestrogen.

Planned Parenthood provides more than 2.5 million men and women every year with access to affordable health care. However, Planned Parenthood has become a central figure in the contentious political debate about a woman's right to choose versus the right to life. Using agenda setting theory as a theoretical framework and textual analysis as the methodology, this study examined how a nonprofit (Planned Parenthood) sets the agenda for news outlets through its use of external communications or public relations, focusing on the output of information in the form of press releases and Facebook posts by Planned Parenthood and whether or not those communication outputs are then input into news articles covering the 2016 presidential election and the political discussion of women's health. Results revealed that Planned Parenthood had minimal impact on news coverage of women's health in the context of the 2016 presidential election.

Summary Combined hormonal contraceptive methods are one of the most commonly used methods of planned parenthood. They show high contraceptive effectiveness, reasonable cycle control and bring several non-contraceptive benefits. A limitation of the widespread use of combined hormonal contraception is the risk of cardiovascular complications in individuals with specific risk factors. The risk of cardiovascular complications is related to the used estrogen component. Currently, the most common use of estrogen in combined hormonal contraception is ethinyl estradiol and estradiol valerate. The good estrogenic part of combined oral contraceptives is estetrol, a hormone produced exclusively by the fetal liver. Estetrol exhibits a tissue-selective receptor activity. Unlike previously used estrogens, it does not negatively affect the production of liver proteins and blood clotting parameters. Estetrol is not a perspective for combined hormonal contraception only. It is also promising for treating and preventing osteoporosis, hormonal therapy of menopausal syndrome, and vulvovaginal atrophy syndrome.
