How much say should each partner get in deciding to keep, or abort, a pregnancy? Should you believe what your significant other tells you? In this work of philosophical short story fiction, Charles and Muriel are engaged to be married. Muriel surprises Charles by telling him she is pregnant. They had previously discussed, and agreed, they didn’t want to ever have children. Muriel, however, forgets to take her birth control pills and skips a few days. Charles thinks she did it on purpose. Regardless, Muriel now wants to be a mother and is determined to keep the baby. Charles leaves in a huff, but comes back a day later. They keep the baby and get married.

GAMBARAN DUKUNGAN SUAMI PADA AKSEPTOR KB IUD DI WILAYAH KERJA PUSKESMAS PANJALU TAHUN 2020

Indonesia sedang menghadapi masalah dengan jumlah dan kualitas sumber daya manusia. Faktor yang memengaruhi pemilihan kontrasepsi yaitu terdiri dari faktor internal dan factor eksternal. Faktor internal yaitu terdiri dari Pengalaman, takut terhadap efek samping, pengetahuan/pemahaman yang salah tentang IUD. Puskesmas Panjalu Kabupaten Ciamis Tahun 2019 memiliki jumlah peserta KB aktif sebanyak 6,816. dan prosentase pemakaian alat kontrasepsi IUD sebanyak 880 orang (12.9%) angka pemakaian alat kontrasepsi IUD merupakan angka ke-8 tertinggi di Kabupaten Ciamis. Penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana gambaran dukungan suami pada akseptor KB IUD di wilayah Puskesmas Panjalu Metode: Jenis penelitian yang di gunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian survei deskriptif jumlah sampel sebanyak 90 orang. Adapun tehnik sampling yang digunakan adalah cluster ramdom sampling. Diketahui sebagian besar responden tidak mendapatkan dukungan suami berdasarkan informasi sebanyak 53 orang (58,9%). Diketahui sebagian besar responden tidak mendapatkan dukungan emosional dari suami sebanyak sebanyak 59 orang (65,6%). Diketahui sebagian besar responden tidak mendapatkan dukungan penghargaan Dari suami sebanyak 52 orang (57,8%). Diketahui sebagian besar responden tidak mendapatkan dukungan instrumental dari suami sebanyak 62 orang (68,9%). Dukungan suami diketahui sebagian besar responden tidak mendapatkan dukungan sebanyak 56 orang (62,2%). Saran Bagi bidan dengan masih banyaknya ibu-ibu yang memakai KB hormonal adalah dengan meningkatkan kinerja bidan dalam memberikan koseling, serta bidan diharapkan dapat meningkatkan penyuluhan kepada pasangan usia subur.Indonesia is facing the problem of both number and quality of human resources. Factors that influence the choice of contraception can be devided into internal factors and external factors. The internal factors cover experiences, fear of side effects and misconceptions about the IUD, while one of the external factors is husband's support. Panjalu community health center ( Puskesmas) in Ciamis Regency in 2019 had a total of 6,816 active family planning participants with the percentage of IUD contraceptive users around 880 people (12.9%). The precentage of IUD birth control use is the 8th highest rate in Ciamis Regency. The present study aims to describe the husband's support for IUD acceptors in Panjalu Community Health Center. Study employed descriptive survey approach with a total sample of 90 people. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling. The results showed that most of the respondents exactly 53 people (58.9%) did not get their husband's support. To be precise, the number of respondents who did not get emotional support from their husbands was 59 people (65.6%); the number of respondents who did not receive appreciation support from their husbands was 52 people (57.8%); and the number of respondents who did not get the instrumental support from their husbands was 62 people (68.9%). It can be concluded that the majority of respondents did not get the support from their husband, around 56 people (62.2%) in number. As there remain many cases of the use of hormonal birth control, it is suggested that the midwives improve their performance in providing counseling especially to the couples with reproductive age.

GAMBARAN PERAN SUAMI DALAM PEMILIHAN ALAT KONTRASEPSI DI PMB BIDAN ELIS YANTI S KABUPATEN TASIKMALAYA

Praktek Mandiri Bidan sangat berperan dalam pelayanan kontrasepsi, PUS lebih banyak konsultasi KB di PMB dibandingkan ke fasilitas kesehatan lainnya. Keterlibatan suami sangat penting dalam mendukung program KB, namun kenyataannya banyak suami yang tidak mendampingi istri saat memilih kontrasepsi. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui gambaran peran suami dalam pemilihan alat kontrasepsi. Jenis penelitian ini termasuk penelitian deskriptif dengan populasi pasangan usia subur yang sudah menjadi akseptor KB hormonal dan non hormonal di PMB bidan Elis Yanti S Kabupaten Tasikmalaya pada 3 bulan terakhir mencapai 107 orang, teknik sampling secara random yaitu 52 Responden. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peran suami dalam pemilihan alat kontrasepsi di PMB bidan Elis Yanti S Kabupaten Tasikmalaya dapat disimpulkan bahwa dalam pemilihan alat kontrasepsi di PMB bidan Elis Yanti S Kabupaten Tasikmalaya lebih dari setengahnya suami memiliki peran yang cukup yaitu 29 orang (55,8%). Agar suami terlibat atau berperan dalam pengambilan keputusan maka salah satu caranya adalah dengan memberikan penyuluhan seperti konseling tentang pentingnya KB, macam macam KB, dampak serta efek kedepannya yang merupakan solusi yang tepat untuk meningkatkan peran serta dukungan suami terhadap pengambilan keputusan istri dalam ber-KB. This type of research includes descriptive research with a population of couples of childbearing age who have become hormonal and non-hormonal kb acceptors in PMB midwife Elis Yanti S Tasikmalaya district in the last 3 months reached 107 people, random sampling techniques that are 52 Respondents. The results showed the role of husbands in the selection of contraceptives in PMB midwives Elis Yanti S Tasikmalaya district can be concluded that in the selection of contraceptives in PMB midwives Elis Yanti S Tasikmalaya more than half of husbands have a sufficient role that is 29 people (55.8%). In order for the husband to be involved or play a role in decision making, one way is to provide counseling such as counseling about the importance of birth control, various kinds of birth control, the impact and effect of the future which is the right solution to increase the role and support of the husband to the wife's decision making in kb.

Perceived Sustainability and Reliability of Naturopathic Birth Control Methods; A Study in Ningo-Prampram, Ghana

Background: According to worldwide estimates, some 600,000 women die each year of pregnancy-related causes, and another 75,000 die following unsafe abortions. At least 200,000 of these maternal deaths are attributable to the failure or lack of contraceptive services. Naturopathic birth control methods have been proven to be a safe and effective way to prevent unwanted pregnancies Aim: this study aimed to examine the use of naturopathic birth control methods and to explore the perceived reliability and perceived sustainability of naturopathic birth control methods among adults. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive survey design was used. Adults in the Ningo-Prampram Municipality were randomly sampled to select 100 respondents, who were then administered with the structured questionnaire. Data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 24. Results were presented using descriptive metrics. Results: Majority of the respondents (39.6%) strongly agree to the use of naturopathic birth control methods 12 months. 34.1% strongly agreed as against 2.2% who strongly disagreed to the reliability of naturopathic birth control methods. 38.5 showed agreement as against 19.8% showing disagreement on the reliability of naturopathic birth control methods. 49.5% agreeing strongly to its sustainability, as against 3.3% disagreeing strongly. Conclusion: It is indicative that given the benefits of naturopathic birth control methods, more adults are in strong agreement of its usage, reliability and sustainability, since it presents the user with no later life health issues such as infertility and complications in parturition. It is therefore important that, the issues of Sexually Transmitted infections (STIs) are addressed with abstinence and or fidelity with one sexual partner.

A unique vaccine for birth control and treatment of advanced stage cancers secreting ectopically human chorionic gonadotropin

This article is a tribute and homage to Gerard Chaouat who invited me to contribute this article. My years in France have remained very memorable to me. Reviewed briefly is the vaccine that was made against human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) to prevent unwanted pregnancy in sexually active women. It has now been developed as a genetically engineered recombinant vaccine and passed onto industry for its production under good manufacturing practices (GMP) conditions for confirmatory trials. The trials have received the approval of the Drugs Controller General of India. The trials have started but have been interrupted by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. This vaccine is likely to have another highly beneficial application in the treatment of cancers expressing ectopically hCG.

Birth Control: A Review of Pharmacological and Non-pharmacological Modalities, Associated Pros and Cons, and Their Effectiveness

Introduction: Family planning importance is increasing progressively and is regarded as an essential part in every couple’s life. Family planning has a lot of benefits for the whole family as it provides a better control over the period between each pregnancy leading to a better balance over the personal, financial, and societal life. There are multiple birth control methods, from which couples can choose from with the assistance of their physicians since each method has its own advantages and disadvantages. Furthermore, some contraceptive methods may be more suited for a certain couple or situation than another one. This review of current methods aims to shed the lights on the various contraception options along with their advantages and disadvantages to aid providers in taking care of their patients. Methodology: A thorough search was carried out on PubMed using the most suitable keywords representing the aim of the present study. A total of 120 were found and based on whether they are suited to achieve the aim of the study, 28 were selected. Discussion: There is a great variety of birth control methods, and each has its associated advantages and disadvantages. Barrier contraceptive methods, most common of which are male condoms, are extremely popular in Western countries. Combined hormonal contraception methods which are available in the form of pills, patches, and rings. Progestin only contraception either in the form of a pill, injection or an implant is the most commonly used type among breastfeeding women. Furthermore, intrauterine devices are another effective contraceptive method which may be copper-based or hormonal-based. Conclusion: Contraception is an integral part of family planning, which can be achieved through a variety of methods. Each birth control method has its own pros and cons that should be explained to the couple clearly, so they can choose the method that is most suited for them.
