Space-time tourist behaviour is influenced by numerous factors related both to tourists and the destination. Yet, however complex it may be, understanding and to some extent managing the way tourists move in space and time is crucial to ensuring the quality of their experience, as well as the effective and sustainable management of destinations and attractions. In the rural wine tourism context, studies on space-time behaviour are rare. The present study uses empirical data collected from tourists staying in hotels of the Bairrada Wine Route territory (N = 116), combining a GPS tracking study with a questionnaire survey. Using a time-geographical analytical approach, the GPS tracking data were mapped for a more detailed analysis of the tourists’ movements in the Bairrada terroir. The findings highlight specificities of tourist consumption in the context of rural wine regions and provide valuable insights for destination planning, service design and marketing of the Bairrada Wine Route.

Governos municipais. Plano Plurianual (PPA). Abstract This paper proposed a methodological and analytical approach to comprehend the strategic process in municipal governments in Brazil under two complementary levels of studies. The first one refers to longitudinal studies to verify, in compared perspective of different governments and political terms, in what extent “Pluriannual Plans (PPAs)” are complied to the annual budgetary construction and execution, as well as the quality of its strategic elements, such as general and specific objectives, justifications, goals, and management and policy indicators. It is an analytical proposal in an area of studies lacking in systematization, and in taxonomic and analytical categories. The second level – in depth case studies – engages into the analysis of institutional learning, conflict and cooperation between administrative and political agencies, rooting, adaptive and transformative organizational strategic practices, and frequent strategic movements versus PPA’s rigid processes accommodation. This second level of appreciation offers studies on dimensions such as: government actions/nuances, institutional leadership and institutional memory, organizational permeability to citizens, political cycles, resources and needs measurements, efforts on financing designed policies, and tactical-operational and project oriented mechanisms of management. The main intended contribution is to create a research agenda related to strategic management in the Brazilian subnational governments, filling gaps in the academic production about PPAs and establishing understandable and comprehensive variables of political-administrative outlines, and elements of municipal strategic empowerment. Keywords: Strategy. Municipal governments. Pluriannual Plan (PPA)

<p>Wildfires constitute a diffuse source of contamination to aquatic ecosystems. In burnt hillslopes, ash and sediments transported by overland flow are a source of potentially hazardous substances, like metals, posing a risk for downstream water bodies. In the present study, post-fire metal mobilization by overland flow was evaluated in 16 m2 bounded plots at a eucalypt stand in Albergaria-a-Velha (Aveiro district, North-Central Portugal) that burnt with moderate severity in September 2019. Overland flow samples were collected on a weekly to bi-weekly basis, depending on the occurrence of rain, during the first 6 months after fire. Aside from overland flow samples collected at slope scale, water and sediment samples were also collected in a fire-affected stream within the Albergaria burned catchment, to assess the contamination risk posed by the fire. Samples were collected at three sites along the stream: one upstream, one within and another downstream from the burnt area, after major rainfall events. The metals analysed in this study included, vanadium (V), chromium (Cr), manganese (Mn), iron (Fe), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb). Results showed that most metals exhibited a peak in exports immediately after the first significant post-fire rainfall event likely due to the wash-off of the ash layer and high sediment losses, but for some elements like Zn and Cu, exports were more or less constant over time. The fire seems to have had a low impact on the water quality of the affected stream, since metal concentrations were similar between the three study sites. The quality of stream sediments, on the other hand, was clearly affected by the fire, especially after the rainy season. As fire severity and frequency is forecasted to increase in the near future due to climate changes, the results of this work reinforce the importance of water managers to define adaptative strategies to effectively protect freshwater bodies.</p>

The visit of the favela or slum into a tourist destination is seen as a part of the so-called reality tours phenomenon and of the global circulation of the favela as a trademark. Tourist behaviour involves a search for leisure experiences from interactions with features or characteristics of places they choose to visit. Examples are the favelas in Brazil, the township of South Africa, the slum in India that have led to different definitions of “slum tourism”, “poor-poor tourism”, “reality tourism”. Web heavily affect today most of the online activities and their effect on tourism is obviously rather important. The aim of the chapter is to discuss about slum tourism definitions. At the same time, taking Reality Tours and Travel - a wholesaler slum websites - as a case, this study attempts to explore issues of the quality of strategic choices on the web. Considering that the content of web site includes a wide variety of technologies, is important that website offer also interactivity with e-tourists. Through the results of the study, it is possible to gain knowledge of the slum e-tourism.

Abstract Availability of clean water and sustainable management of water are among the 17 global ‘Sustainable Development Goals,’ established by the United Nations. The increasing technogenesis-related pollution causes increases the concentrations of many metallic elements (MEs) throughout the biosphere. The syngenetic bio-incorporation of MEs changes the biomass's chemical and physical composition and impacts the quality of products, e.g. biochar (BC). This has impacts upon BCs potential for adsorption of water pollutants. While direct, engineered modification of BC can improve its adsorption characteristics, the more indirect alterations of BC composition, based on syngenetic elements, also modifies BCs adsorption functionality. The objective of this study was to identify the characteristics of syngenetically accumulated MEs in ligneous biomass on the adsorptive properties of the BCs derived from such modified biomasses. The authors of this paper investigated the syngenetic pathway of MEs into the ligneous biomass and provided an overview of the forms and quantities of MEs in the biomass and their transformation to BC. The early results of the effects of syngenetic MEs on the adsorptive properties of BC from ligneous biomass are presented. The results suggest that additional syngenetical MEs result in increases in the adsorptive properties of the resultant biomass-derived BCs.

Information overload is an increasingly familiar phenomenon, but evolving United States military doctrine provides a new analytical approach and a unifying taxonomy organizational leaders and academicians may find useful in conducting further study of this subject. The overabundance of information, relentless stream of interruptions, and potent distractive quality of the internet draw knowledge workers away from productive cognitive engagement like an addictive drug, hobbling the quality and timeliness of decisions and causing considerable economic waste. Evolving U.S. military doctrine addressing “Information Operations” applies time tested principles regarding the defense of physical resources to an information age center of gravity—the decision making capacity of people and organizations, or the “cognitive dimension.” Using military doctrine and thinking to underscore the potential seriousness of this evolving threat should inspire organizational leaders to recognize the criticality of its impact and motivate them to help clear the data smog, reduce information overload, and communicate for effect.

The purpose of this study is to estimate the economic value of Geomun Oreum (GO), a parasitic volcanic sieve, for sustainable management by using the dichotomous choice contingent valuation method. To address the exaggeration tendency of willingness to pay (WTP), the contingent valuation method’s (CVM’s) traditional threshold, respondents’ WTP answers were reconfirmed to screen only true responses for our analysis. In addition to estimating the economic value, the causal relationship between the tour guide’s quality of explanation and the respondents’ payment intention is examined in the study. The results reveal that the estimated preservation value of GO is 35,881 KRW (33.28 USD), and the quality of the tour guide’s narrative is statistically related to the respondents’ payment intention.

Cloud applications and services such as social networks, file sharing services, and file storage have become increasingly popular among users in recent years. This leads to the enlargement of data centers, and an increase in the number of servers and virtual machines. In such systems, live migration is used to move virtual machines from one server to another, which affects the quality of service. Therefore, the problem of finding the total migration time is relevant. This article proposes analytical approach to obtaining analytical expression of the probability density of the total migration time based on the use of the apparatus of characteristic functions. The obtained expression is used to calculate characteristics of migration, taking into account the applications contributing the most randomness to the total migration time. To simplify the calculation of migration characteristics, the use of the Laguerre series can be recommended as giving more reliable results compared to Gram-Charlier series.

In this era, the number of users in a network is increasing tremendously at a faster rate; as a consequence, quality of service (QoS) is drastically deteriorating. To compensate such kinds of problems, we attempted to enhance the QoS of the network, which leads to an improvement in throughput, link quality, spectral efficiency, and many more. To meet the requirements mentioned above, many researchers intervene to advance and propose different techniques with an appropriate design methodology. In this work, we try to emphasize symbol error rate (SER) and frame error rate (FER) by implementing some of the existing space-time coding techniques like Space-Time Trellis Coding (STTC), multilevel space-time trellis coding (MLSTTC), and grouped multilevel space-time trellis coding (GMLSTTC). Though all these techniques are proved to be efficient enough, we explicitly included a powerful method of cooperative diversity-based spectrum sensing in cognitive radio scenario. From this analysis, we landed on to the conclusion that this technique is far better to deal with all these parameters, which can improve the QoS of the network. This paper has also analyzed the effect of the proposed model of GMLSTTC with cognitive radio on various deployment setups such as urban, suburban, and rural macrodeployment setup of the ITU-R M.2135 standard.
