Eremogone saxatilis (L.) Ikonn – a Eurasian, boreal-temperate species distributed in the European partof Russia and Southern Siberia. Recently the species occurs in dry pine forests, on the edges, sandy forest glades, inthe steppes. Despite its rather extensive area, this species is specified in the Red Books of different regions of Russia,including the Kirov region. The aim of the research is to study the ecological and coenotic features of the Eremogone saxatilis habitat on the north-eastern border of the range. The research of the species distribution features was carried out inthe protected area “Medvedsky Bor”. On the basis of geobotanical descriptions, the analysis of ecological preferences andrealized ecological potencies of Eremogone saxatilis was carried out, which was realized out according to the amplitudephytoindication scales of D. N. Tsyganov. According to the data obtained, it was found that the studied species does nothave high adaptive capabilities to various environmental conditions. Eremogone saxatilis exists in areas with approximateconditions of its original habitats on the territory of the Kirov region. The main factors for the growth of the species werethe increased illumination and dryness on the poor soils of pine forests in the northern parts of its modern area.

Income is an important indicator for assessing the level of economy development as well as identifying and assessing living standards. The population in Northeast border is poor, facilities are outdated, people’s life is difficult, but it hold great potentials for economic development. However, the region’s biggest challenge today is low living standards and high poverty rate. Differences in income and living standards across regions and strata tend to increase the gap. The sustainability of the trend of income increase and improvement of living standards of the population is not stable. As a result, the development of mountainous areas is dependent on poverty reduction solutions for ethnic minorities through the increase of incomes and improvement of market connectivity for ethnic minorities in mountainous areas.

Abstract During geobotanical studies in the north-eastern border of hemi-boreal zone, in Valday (NW Russia), rare eutrophic deciduous forests dominated by oak Quercus robur were observed. A comparison of these forests with the model of European deciduous forest in Białowieża National Park (NE-Poland) indicates a great similarity. Therefore, eutrophic deciduous forests in Valday can be classified to the Querco-Fagetea class, the Fagetalia sylvaticae order and to the Capinion betuli alliance, despite the absence of hornbeam Carpinus betulus in the region. Rarity of eutrophic deciduous forests in Valday region results probably from strong anthropogenic pressure in the past.

Several years ago I wrote a number of papers on the results of my investigations in a synclinal area near Megiddo, south-east of Mount Carmel, which I called “ the syncline of Megiddo ”. In the thick Eocene series of this syncline two distinct horizons of Lower and Upper Lutetian have been recognized. Above the Lutetian beds some patches of transgressive Upper Oligocene are preserved. Unfortunately the publications were based on investigations of only the north-eastern border of the whole synclinal region, further field explorations having been made impossible by the riots in 1936−39. In the summer of 1942 I renewed my fieldwork, which has led to a discovery of an Upper Eocene transgression over a probable Middle Eocene series.

AbstractThe first records of Leuctra geniculata Stephens, 1836 in the north-eastern border of its area (the Czech Republic) are presented and an overview of references, synonyms and distribution of the species is given. The ecological preferences of the species, supported by chemical and hydromorphological parameters, are defined. Probable dissemination paths into the Czech Republic and the supposed life cycle of the species are discussed. Photographs of morphological characters, SEM photos of eggs, associated macroinvertebrate assemblages (EPT taxa) and maps of distribution are included.

The present paper investigates three-part appliques from the ensemble of archaeological sites of Shivera Prospikhino, which was located in the Lower Angara region. The variants of this type of jewelry have been indicated, and their territorial distribution in the region and Northern Eurasia have been determined. The chronological frame of the extent of appliques during the research archaeological complex is presented. The highest diversity of variants of appliques are recorded in the burials of the 12th — middle 13th century. In the burials of the Mongol period (the 13th –14th century) appliques with a plain shield and items with a drawn line on shield predominate. Jewelry with a convex figured nose, with «pearls’ on the ears and with a drawn line in the center of the shield have not been not marked in the materials of nearby and distant archaeological complexes of Northern Eurasia. The paper puts forward a position on the universal using of three-part appliques. Visual research of the appliques allowed us to record technological traces that reflect the techniques of making jewelry. The characteristic of the recipe of the alloys used has been presented. At the moment, the published materials indicate that the territory of the Lower Angara region is the north-eastern border of the mass distribution of three-part appliques. In the present study, a new occurrence of Aglae caerulea Lepeletier & Audinet-Serville is reported within a few km of the seasonal flooded plain limits of the Pantanal in the Paraguay basin, reinforcing the idea that this species coexists with its hostess Eulaema nigrita, one of the most common species catalogued in several habitats surveyed in the biome. After 18 months of sampling and no A. caerulea male attracted to the baits, methyl cinnamate was added to the set of fragrances available in the field. During four weeks in May and one week in June 2018, a total of 11 males of A. caerulea were attracted to the new bait in the gallery forest of São Vicente Range. With this most recent record, we expand the ranges of occurrence to the north-eastern border of the Pantanal of Barão de Melgaço, in Mato Grosso, Brazil. Future expeditions in the Pantanal of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul should record this cleptoparasitic species from southern to western Paraguay river basin, to reduce the biogeographical gaps in this peculiar tribe of corbiculate bees. The cleptoparasitic species A. caerulea may be recorded when adequate field studies and collections are made from the seasonal floodplain habitats to karstic habitats (dry forests) along the Pantanal border.

The present study provides an etymological analysis of toponyms collected by Ptolemy from Northeast Europe, as known to him in the mid-second century CE. The territory studied roughly corresponds to contemporary Poland and part of the Czech Republic. The northernmost border of probable Celtic toponyms in the area of contemporary Poland may be determined between the 54th and 53rd latitudes (c. 53°30′).
