Materials on the flora and vegetation of the projected nature monument of regional importance “Ladyslipper grove” are given. Flora comprises 150 species of higher vascular plants, including 4 rare species: Cypripediumcalceolus L., C. macranthon Sw., C. ventricosum Sw., Orchis militaris L. The vegetation is typical for left-bank forest-steppe:birch, aspen and birch-aspen communities in combination with steppe meadows along the edges, and steppes with Festucavalesiaca.

Flora comprises 153 species of higher vascular plants, including 4 rare species: Cypripedium calceolusL., C. macranthon Sw., C. ventricosum Sw., Stipa pennata L. The vegetation is typical for left-bank forest-steppe: birch,aspen and birch-aspen communities in combination with steppe meadows along the edges, saline meadows and steppeswith Festuca valesiaca.

A geobotanical survey of rich fens on the left-bank terraces of the Em-Egan River, the right tributary of the Malaya Sosva River in the southern part of the nature reserve “Malaya Sosva” (61.79° - 62.05° N, 64.06° - 64.55° E). 179 species have been identified, including 84 species of higher vascular plants, 69 species of mosses and 26 types of liverworts. Of these, 11 species are included in the Red Data Book of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District, including 9 species of higher vascular plants and 2 species of mosses: Baeothryon alpinum, Cardamine nymanii, Dactylorhiza traunsteineri, D. incarnata, Hammarbya paludosa, Huperzia selago, Saxifraga hirculus, Thelypteris palustris, Triglochin palustre, Meesia triquetra, Paludella squarrosa. Three more species – Corallorrhiza trifida, Calliergon richardsonii, Meesia uliginosa are included in the list of species whose condition in the natural environment requires special attention. In addition, such rare species as Eriophorum brachyantherum, Stellaria crassifolia, Bistorta major, rare species of mosses such as Bryum bimum, Calliergonella cuspidata, Campylium pretense, Hamatocaulis vernicosus, Scorpidium cossonii, Tomentypnum nitens are listed in the mire plant communities. On the basis of the ecological-floral approach of the J. Brown-Blanke school, 8 associations, 6 subassociations and 3 communities from 5 unions, 3 orders and 3 classes of vegetation were allocated in the vegetation cover of rich fens. The belonging of one more vegetation community type of the Bistorta major–Sphagnum fuscum dwarf birch community with the sparse fir (Picea obovata) to the class and the order is not established. The highest phytocenotic diversity and the highest concentration of rare and protected species are found in communities of the order Sphagno warnstorfii-Tomentypneetalia. Phytocenotic association and frequency of occurrence of rare species in different types of plant communities are established.

With the ever growing population and economic needs of Mauritius, the flora of Mauritius has never been in more danger and one group of vascular plants is even more in peril; ferns.<em> Diplazium proliferum</em> is indigenous to the Mascarene region and is considered as a rare species in Mauritius. The need to develop a tested <em>in vitro</em> propagation protocol is a must to protect the biodiversity of Mauritius. This experiment was geared towards the establishment of a proper sterilization technique and the effect of 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) and light on <em>in vitro</em> culture of this fern. Sterilization with 0.05% Mercuric chloride was effective to eliminate fungal contamination and allow germination of spores. Culture media supplemented with BAP did not significantly increase growth rate of both gametophytes and sporophytes of<em> D. proliferum</em>. Present results suggest efficient sterilization methods to be a crucial stage for successful<em> in vitro r</em>egeneration of ferns. The established protocol will be used as an optimized baseline protocol for the propagation of other indigenous ferns.

Classification scheme of rare habitats of Europe according to Bern Convention and Habitat Directive of EU was presented for the territory of Drevlianskyi nature reserve. It was shown significant habitat’s diversity of nature reserve from all main types of habitats — water (permanent and temporary lakes (waterbodies), watercources, reedbeds habitats), bog (eutrophic and mesotrophic mires), grassland (dry, mesic and wet grassland, floodplain and fen scrub, heaths), forest (leaved and conifer forests (woodland), rock (rocks and talus of silicate rocks). According to the results of field research, the territory of the reserve represented by 30 habitats (1 — ІІ leaves, 4 — ІІІ leaves, 25 — ІV leaves). It is established that the most common habitat 91T0 (Central European lichen Scots pine forests), which represented by 153 localities in A1C (dry pine forest) on an area of 421.5 ha. It was made a conclusion that the role of rare habitats in nature reserve Drevlianskyi is determinant for conservation of rare species of vascular plants that are protected by the Bern Convention, European Red List and included to the Red Book of Ukraine. The results of the analysis of the role of rare biotopes of Europe in the conservation of species of flora of different protection status on the territory of Drevlianskyi nature reserve show that most of the rare plant species of reserve listed in Resolution № 6 of the Bern Convention (Annex I), revised in 2011, are present in its rare settlements. The role of rare habitats of Drevlianskyi nature reserve in the conservation of rare species of flora is decisive — of the 29 species of plants of supranational and national levels of protection in rare habitats there are 24 species or 82.8% of their total number.

Vascular plant biodiversity was compared in an unburned semi-open alvar woodland dominated by conifers and an equivalent woodland that had burned nine years previously and had developed into a long-lasting successional shrubland. The comparison, based on 30 quadrats 1 m2 at each of two sites, revealed less than 25% similarity in the vegetation cover of the two sites. The successional alvar shrubland that developed following fire had twice as many species and more regionally rare species than the corresponding woodland site. The shrubland also had higher values for various biodiversity measures that take heterogeneity and evenness into account. These data provide additional evidence for the importance of fire and disturbance in the creation of successional habitat upon which biodiversity depends. A cautious use of fire in management of alvars is supported.

Abstract The paper presents the results of the research of local population of Anacamptis morio (L.) R. M. Bateman on the territory of the Left-Bank Ukraine. The size of this population was estimated at about 250-300 thousand individuals. The average density of individuals per 1 m2 is 12, while in terms of age structure, dominate individuals in the generative stage (70-75%). A. morio inhabits fresh, forest-meadow biotopes. Its populations are found in fresh eutrophic and moist mesotrophic meadows and in coastal floodplain forests. This species is a part of vegetation of the Koelerio-Corynephoretea and Molinio-Arrhenatheretea classes. Considering the characteristics of the investigated A. morio population and its habitat we assert that the studied territory is unique, valuable and perspective for the creation of a nature reserve.

On the territory of the garden and park landscapes of the Middle Pobuzhzhia 31 species of higher vascular plants that have national or regional protection status have been revealed or cited in literature. Of these, 9 species are listed in the current edition of the Red Data Book of Ukraine, 10 species have regional protection status in Vinnytsia region and 20 species in Cherkasy region. National Dendrological Park «Sofiyivka» NAS of Ukraine has the largest number of species from the Red Data Book of Ukraine (8 species): Tulipa quercetorum, Euonymus nana, Scopolia carniolica, Allium ursinum, Pulsatilla pratensis, Pulsatilla patens, Trapa natans, Epipactis helleborine, Neottia nidus-avis. Only by one rare species were revealed in the Pechersky (Scopolia carniolica), Sokiletsky (Pulsatilla pratensis), Verkhivsky (Trapa natans) and Kryzhopilsky (Epipactis helleborine) parks. Phytoindication assessment of the identified localities showed that the most of them are on the border or even outside their ecological-coenotic amplitude by one or more factors, which indicates their vulnerability to external influences. Currently, the greatest threat to the existence of species at present is the recreational load, so according to the Law on the Red Data Book of Ukraine, they all need proper protection measures.

Inselbergs are granitic or gneissic rocky outcrops prevalent in the landscape of southeastern Brazil. These ecosystems represent islands of isolated habitats that harbor a peculiar flora with high richness and endemism. The present study lists the species of vascular plants occurring in the Pedra da Andorinha Complex, located in the municipality of Jerônimo Monteiro/Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, southern Espírito Santo state, aiming to generate subsidies for the creation of a protected area. The survey was performed between July 2017 and October 2018, resulting in a record of 121 species, 96 genera, and 40 families. Bromeliaceae (17), Orchidaceae (12) and Fabaceae (10) were the richest families. The phytophysiognomy of exposed rock vegetation comprises a greater number of species (79 species) compared to the woody rupicolous communities (42). Eighteen of the collected species are threatened by extinction; a new species was discovered; and five were described based on materials previously collected in the studied location — Alcantarea patriae, Anthurium martinellii, Coleocephalocereus uebelmanniorum, Stigmatodon attenuatoides and Pitcairnia azouryi, the first four being endemic to the region. We also found Tabebuia reticulata, a rare species among Brazilian flora. Our results highlight the biological importance of the Pedra das Andorinhas Complex and reinforce the need to create a protected area to preserve biodiversity and the regional natural heritage.

Floristic surveys are the basis of phytodiversity knowledge and when carried out in protected areas add value because they can generate incentives for conservation and subsidies for management plans. With the objective to contribute to flora knowledge in Piaui State, Brazil, a floristic study was developed in the riparian forest Uruçuí-Una Ecological Station. This station has a 135.122,29 ha area and is in Baixa Grande do Ribeiro municipality, Piauí, in Northeast of Brazil. The area is in Cerrado’s phytogeographical domain, with riparian forest along the river Uruçuí-Preto, which borders part of its area. The survey was conducted from samples collected of woody vascular plants in an area of approximately 4.5 ha on the left bank of Uruçuí-Preto River. The samples collected were properly herborized, taxonomically identified, and stored in herbaria Graziela Barroso (TEPB) and Delta do Parnaíba (HDELTA). The study resulted in 90 species, 71 genus, and 37 families. Except for Tilesia baccata species, Asteraceae naturalized, all species are native to Brazil, and 21.50% are also endemic in Brazil and 6.45% endemic in Cerrado. Most species, i.e 78.49% were not evaluated for the extinction risk, while 15.05% are classified in the Little Worrying category and only, Bowdichia virgilioides is in the condition of Near Threatened. This study contributes significantly to the scientific literature as it is the second floristic survey presented for this conservation unit since 1984, and the first study carried out in the riparian forest in this protected area of the Brazilian Cerrado.
