The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between organizational cynism perception levels and organizational commitment levels of the academic staff from sports sciences departments at higher education institutions. The population of the study consists of all academic staff from sports sciences departments at higher education institutions and 396 sets of data (n=291 male, n=105 female) were collected from the academic staff. To determine the organizational cynism levels of the academic staff, an 13-item scale “Organizational Cynism Scale,” which was developed by Brandes, Dhalwadkar and Dean (1999) was utilized in the study. The reliability score was calculated as α=0.93 and the Turkish adaptation of the scale was also performed by Kalağan (2009). Besides, in order to determine the organizational commitment levels of the participants, an 18-item scale “Organizational Commitment Scale”, which was developed by Allen and Meyer (1996) and used in Turkish format by Belli (2014), was utilized in the study. The data were analyzed with SPSS 20.0 packet program. In addition to descriptive statistics, t-tests (Independent t-Test) and analysis of variance (One-Way ANOVA) were carried out in order to identify the differences in terms of demographic variables. Tukey HSD test was utilized to specify the groups from which significant differences were derived and Pearson correlation test was also used in order to examine the relationship between variables.  All findings were considered according to p<0.05 significance level in the study. The results of the study suggest that the organizational commitment levels of the academic staff are medium-degree and their organizational cynism perceptions are low. In terms of organizational cynism, some significant differences were found out regarding the length of time spent working at that institution, administrative function and change of title variables. On the other hand, there were also some significant differences in variables like gender, age and the length of time spent at that institution in terms of organizational commitment as well as administrative function and change of title variables, those being similar to the results of organizational cynism. Additionally, it was found out that there existed medium-degree and negative relationship between organizational cynism and organizational commitment.Extended English abstract is in the end of PDF (TURKISH) file.

Employee turnover has become a key performance indicator for many organizations as they struggle to retain talented employees. The negative impact of turnover on organizational performance has continually forced organizational leaders to seek better ways of retaining valuable employees. The relationship between man and work has always attracted the attention of philosophers. A major part of men’s life is spent at work. Work is social reality and social expectation to which men seem to conform. It not only provides status to the individual but also binds him to the society. An employee who is satisfied with his job would perform his duties well and be committed to his job, and subsequently to his organization. This paper examines relationship among job satisfaction, organizational commitment and employees’ turnover intentions at Unilever Corporation in Nigeria. The data for this study was collected from 117 employees currently working at Unilever Nigeria PLC using the survey method via the questionnaire. Pearson Correlation and the multiple regression analysis techniques using the SPSS version 22.0 was used for the data analysis. The findings of the study revealed that both job satisfaction and organizational commitment have significant negative relationship with employee turnover intentions. In addition, organizational commitment was revealed to have a more dorminant influence on employee turnover intentions than job satisfaction. Based on these findings, the implications, recommendations, practice, and theory were discussed.

Recently, the relationship between leader-member exchange and job performance has become more interesting subject among researchers. However, the literature has a paucity of empirical studies conducted in the higher education institutions; therefore, the relationship between these two variables is not clear. Hence, the purpose of this study was to examine the effect of leader-member exchange on the job performance of academic staff in higher educational institutions. The data for the study were collected from the academic staff (n=174) of five faculties of sport sciences in Turkey. The LMX-7 scale developed by Scandura and Graen (1984) was used to determine the quality of the interactions between leaders (i.e., administrators) and members (i.e., academic staff). Sigler and Pearson’s (2000) job performance scale, which is a modified version of Kirkman and Rosen’s (1999) team productivity scale, was used to measure job performance. The findings exposed a statistically significant positive effect of leader-member exchange on job performance (p<0.05).

An athlete always wants to be appreciated, loved and respected. In this study conducted with the purpose of determining the basic psychological needs of the students studying in schools of physical education and sports, faculties of sports sciences and other higher education institutions offering sports education, whether the athlete students are aware of their basic psychological needs has been analyzed. Another purpose of the research is to determine which psychological needs the students receiving sports education have most and to make interpretations as per the results yielded by the sub-dimensions of the scale. The questionnaire method was used in the research with the purpose of determining the basic psychological needs of students. The scale used in the research is New Psychological Needs Scale (NPNS) developed by Heckert et al. (2000) and adapted into Turkish and its reliability and validity tests conducted by Kesici (2007). NPNS is a 20-item five point Likert grading scale (“1” for totally disagree, “2” for disagree, “3” for hesitant, “4” for agree, “5” for totally agree). SPSS 18.0 package program was used in analysis of data. Percentage, frequency, average, standard deviation values were used for descriptive information; independent t-test was used for the comparison of different groups and one-way variance analysis (ANOVA) was used for the comparison of multiple groups. In sports with the significance level of p<0.05 obtained after the statistical calculation between the variables of students, some differences were ascertained between sexes and the point average of basic psychological needs of girls was found to be higher than boys. It is known very well that women are more sensitive and emotional in their nature. Their special days and the hormones secreted considerably affect and change their feelings and thoughts.

The aim of this study is to determine the general competency beliefs and entrepreneurial levels of undergraduate students studying at faculty of sports sciences by different demographic variables. The sample group consists of total 1230 students, 541 women and 689 men, who have been educated in the sport sciences of five different universities and have been chosen by chance. In this study, the entrepreneurship scale, composed of 36 items, developed by Yılmaz and Sümbül (2009) and the entrepreneurship scale, developed by Jerusalem and Schwarzer (1992) and General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), composed of 10 items, developed and adapted to Turkish by Çelikkaleli and Çapri (2008) were used as data collection tool. For statistical analysis of the data obtained from the study, the mean and frequency distributions were obtained. In order to determine the relationship between gender variables and the scores of the participants, t-test was performed and ANOVA test was performed to determine the relationship between the grades (points/marks) of the participants. Kruskal Wallis test was used for non-parametric tests because the variables studied did not meet the normal distribution and homogeneity conditions. In order to determine the relationship between the two scales, Pearson correlation test was performed and presented as results and tables. For statistical significance .05 significance level was selected. The results of the study show that the group has a high level of competency and entrepreneurship, that there is no meaningful relationship between gender variables and general competency and entrepreneurship levels, but that there is a meaningful relationship with the university variables they are studying. It has been determined that there is a positive correlation between the general level of competence of the students and the levels of entrepreneurship.

The author attended the Annual Assembly of the Engineering Professors' Council, held at St Catherine's College, Oxford, on 6–8 April 1998. He reports on the presentations, discussions and debates. The principal concern was the relationship between the higher education sector and engineering employers and the need for higher education institutions to recognize and deliver engineering graduates with sufficient ‘added value’ to be capable of quickly adding to the value of an engineering company. Measuring the quality of teaching and research in UK universities, a key factor in adding value to students, remains a problem area for the academic staff.

International students are steadily increasing in South Korean higher education institutions. How well international students are adjusted academically and the relationship between acculturation stressors and academic adjustment has not yet been determined. This study aimed to fill this research gap by examining the relationship between acculturation stressors and academic adjustment among Nepalese international students in South Korean higher education institutions. The sample of the study consisted of Nepalese students who enrolled in 36 universities in South Korea. Students’ background characteristics and acculturation stressors were selected to examine the association between acculturation stressors and academic adjustment. Pearson correlation and hierarchical multiple regression were utilized. The results from the Pearson correlation revealed the negative correlation of perceived discrimination (r = −0.23, p < 0.01), perceived hate/rejection (r = −0.18, p < 0.05), perceived fear (r = −0.24, p < 0.01), and perceived cultural shock (r = −0.17, p < 0.05) with academic adjustment. Further, the hierarchical regression model revealed that perceived fear (β = −0.220, p < 0.05) had a negative association with academic adjustment. Addressing acculturation stressors among international students is essential to facilitate a positive academic environment. Mainly, perceived fear has negatively affected students’ academic adjustment. Based on these findings, tailored programs must be developed to curtail international students’ perceived fear.

The study investigates the relationship between organizational culture and organization commitment at a higher education institution in South Africa. Quantitative research approach was used and 30 participants were chosen at random from academic and non-academic employees of the university. Furthermore, in order to gather data, the study used a structured questionnaire regarding the effects of existing organizational culture on organizational commitment. Pearson correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between existing organizational culture typologies and facets of organizational commitment. The study revealed that different culture typologies bring about different levels of organizational commitment. Moreover, support of culture had a strong significant relationship with normative and continuance commitment. This means that if the organization shows the sense care and support to its employees, they will develop an obligatory sense of belonging and help the organization in attaining its objectives.
