The goal of this paper is to determine a translator’s role in the process of translation of a scientific text. The analysis centres on philosophical texts translated from French into Polish by the author of the paper: Plotinus or the Simplicity of Vision by Pierre Hadot, Philosophizing ad Infinitum by Marcel Conche, Intellectual Autobiography by Paul Ricœur, Speech and Action in Heraclitus. On the Theoretical Foundations of Moral Action by Michel Fattal, and Le Logos dans le Sophiste de Platon by Michel Fattal. A requirement is usually imposed on the translator of a specialist text to be invisible, transparent, and neutral. However, this analysis shows that this requirement cannot be met in translations of scientific texts.

Christian ethicist Nancy Duff has suggested that an apocalyptic hearing of the gospel elicits a parabolic understanding of the Christian moral life. How might the theological basis and rationale of this claim be elaborated? What is it about human life funded by the gospel of God’s apocalypse in Jesus Christ that makes ‘parable’ an apt description of the quality of its action? And how might these notions be elaborated to enrich our understanding of responsible moral action more generally? This article explores these questions by way of a running conversation with the work of J. Louis Martyn, Christopher Morse and Paul Ricoeur. It concludes by showing the salience of these themes in relation to Bonhoeffer’s later reflections upon the distinctive quality of Christian life in the wreckage of Christendom. Overall, the solid currency of a parabolic construal of the character of Christian moral action for the present pursuit of theological ethics is recommended.

Writing cancels the factual conditions of enunciation and creates, in this way, a background of stable meaning where it is possible to validate a conception of subjectivity implicated in the two reading strategies (the structural analysis and the appropriation), i.e., a passive subject constituted by the ideality of meaning. Likewise, this paper aims to clarify some ambiguities in the way Ricoeur uses the «beings in the world» to support the discourse referentiality.KEY WORDSTEXT, WRITING, REFERENCE, SUBJECTIVITY, WORLD
