This work aims to define the impact of different indicators on the sustainability of food placement in the retail sector, during periods of crisis and emergencies, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. An empirical survey conducted in the Western Balkans (WB) region showed that indicators such as developed infrastructure, consistency, and transparency of the supply chain, skilled workers, costs, food safety, food prices, energy consumption, and changes in consumer needs are statistically significant since they affect the sustainability of food placement in the retail sector. As food placement and the retail sector itself are inseparable from other participants in the food supply chain (FSC), an analysis was conducted at the level of all FSC sectors. The results showed some deviations viewed individually in the sectors of production, physical distribution, wholesale, and retail, and in selected Western Balkan countries. Based on the results obtained, the sustainability model of food placement in the retail sector has been defined. The model will serve as the basis for defining the set of measures and incentives that competent institutions and FSC management need to undertake, to minimize the impact of indicators that endanger sustainability. The originality of the study lies in the fact that it fills the research gap that exists in this subject matter in academic research and studies in the WB region. In addition, some indicators important for food placement have been precisely isolated, with the definition of the intensity of their impact, observed overall at the level of the entire FSC as well as by individual sectors. Guidelines and suggestions for future research are listed in the paper.

Purpose – Supply chains are embedded in a larger network of enterprises where firms exchange offerings, often compete for the same customers, and constantly innovate to improve their performance. In these dynamic environments, firms are increasingly dependent on the knowledge and expertise in external organizations to innovate, problem-solve, and improve performance. Firms are increasingly collaborating to exchange and pool skills and knowledge and deploy resources and capabilities not found in their own firm. This research using both structured interviews and survey data seeks to determine what are the direct benefits and the ancillary benefits of collaboration. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach – A mixed methodology approach was utilized, using qualitative structured interviews leading to developing a research model and then an empirical survey of 473 participants who are involved in their respective organization's collaboration projects. The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling to examine relationships between collaborative engagement, knowledge gained, operational outcomes and relational outcomes. Findings – The results of the study indicate that collaborative engagement has a direct effect on knowledge gained, operational outcomes and relational outcomes in collaboration. The ancillary benefit of collaboration is the learning that takes place leads to improved operational outcomes and relational outcomes. Research limitations/implications – In this research study all the constructs are only examined from a single perspective. This can be a limitation as it would be of greater value to collect data from all the members involved in the collaboration. Originality/value – Collaboration has been well studied in many fields but this research suggests an important ancillary benefit that needs to be considered when deciding to collaborate is the knowledge and learning that happens during a collaboration.

The short-term insurance industry is a cyclical type of business due to the impact of the continuous market cycle. This cycle has a growth phase, soft market phase, hard market phase and a break-even phase. The objective of the research paper focuses on the improvement of financial decision-making when executives of the short-term insurance industry are managing their business during the various phases of the continuous market cycle. Both a literature study and an empirical survey were necessary to achieve the research objective. The empirical survey included the contributions of the top nine commercial and corporate short-term insurers in South Africa. They represented more than 77% of the total gross written premiums in 2009 and can thus be considered as the leaders of the short-term insurance industry in this country. The conclusions of the study should be valuable to other developing countries with emerging market economies as South Africa is also classified as such. The study focused on the various factors which may cause the continuous market cycle, the problem areas which the executives experience concerning the continuous market cycle, and how often various factors are adjusted by the short-term insurers to account for changes in the continuous market cycle.

A case study approach within an action research framework incorporating qualitative and quantitative domains was adopted to explore the impact on Queensland farmers of a farm business management extension programme. Three new indices were developed to quantify changes perceived by participants. The first measure, the Bennett Change Index, provided statistically significant evidence that attitudinal and behavioural changes were more frequent in participants with less formal education, but also more frequent in participants who had high urbanisation and self-directed learning index scores. The other 2 new indices, Management Constructs Change and Management Objectives Change, provided evidence of statistically significant changes in participant beliefs about, and attitudes towards, farm business management. Although highly correlated with each other, these changes were unrelated statistically to any of 6 other commonly used biographical or psychometric indices employed; including level of formal education. It is concluded that these new measures, with context-relevant modifications, have potential as aids to programme impact evaluation in a range of agricultural and wider applications. They may provide insights into personal psychological issues that complement direct behavioural measures of change.

The business sector constitutes an engine for the Ecuadorian economy through the generation of employment and redistribution of wealth. Therefore, given the current economic dynamics of high competition, globalization of markets, and use of information and communication technologies, business managers need to use different tools such as management models to achieve acceptable levels of utility, profitability, customer satisfaction and permanence in the consumer market. This research involved an analysis of the impact on corporate management of applying different management models of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the city of Riobamba, province of Chimborazo (Ecuador). The study was descriptive, cross-sectional, exploratory and non-experimental and it was conducted in the first half of 2019. Data were collected through field investigation and the application of a structured survey with a sample composed of 136 managers, owners and administrators, from a population of 440 entrepreneurs. The results showed that 93% of entrepreneurs knew about the existence of management models, and 41% recorded that total quality is the most applied model followed by continuous improvement (18%) and re-engineering (13%). We conclude that entrepreneurs consider management models to be crucial in the management of their company. Keywords: management model, business management, strategies, competitiveness, SMEs. Resumen El sector empresarial en todos sus niveles constituye un motor para la economía ecuatoriana, por la generación de empleo y redistribución de la riqueza; por ello los gerentes de las empresas dada la actual dinámica económica por la alta competencia, globalización de los mercados, uso de las tecnologías de información y comunicación, entre otras variables, necesita utilizar diferentes herramientas como son los modelos gerenciales para lograr niveles aceptables de utilidad, rentabilidad, satisfacción de los clientes y permanencia en el mercado consumidor. La investigación tiene como objetivo efectuar un análisis de la aplicación e incidencia en la gestión corporativa, de diferentes modelos gerenciales de las Pequeñas y Medianas empresas (Pymes) de la ciudad de Riobamba, provincia de Chimborazo (Ecuador). El estudio es descriptivo, transversal, exploratorio y no experimental efectuado en el primer semestre del año 2019, realizado mediante una investigación de campo, a través de la aplicación de una encuesta estructurada, seleccionando una muestra compuesta por 136 gerentes, propietarios y administradores, de una población de 440 empresarios. Los resultados obtenidos evidenciaron que el 93% de los empresarios conocen de la existencia de modelos gerenciales, el 41% registra que la calidad total es el modelo más aplicado seguido del mejoramiento continuo (18%) y Reingeniería (13%). Se concluye que los empresarios y emprendedores consideran a los modelos gerenciales de mucha importancia en la dirección de su empresa. This research aims to examine the impact of the ethical dimension of selling behavior on some marketing relational variables in the banking sector: satisfaction, trust, commitment and loyalty. Structural equations modelling (SEM) is used to assess the simultaneous effects of the predictive variables. An empirical survey confirms the impact of the ethical dimension on the trust. The satisfaction has an effect on the customer trust which influences his commitment and loyalty.
