In this article has been illuminated the communicative-pragmatic functions of gradation in English and Uzbek languages. In the scientific literature, cognitive linguistics is also described as “connected semantics” because it deals mainly with semantics. While linguistic units serve to express objects that exist in the world and the actions that take place, semantics connect the interactions between linguistic units in a real or imaginary world. These relations are studied by linguistic semantics as a separate object of study. One of the important features of cognitive linguistics is that it allows us to see the language in relation to a person, that is, his consciousness, knowledge, processes of thinking and understanding, paying particular attention to how language forms and any language phenomena are associated with human knowledge and experience and how they relate to the human mind how to describe. KEY WORDS: English language, Uzbek language, gradation, communicative-pragmatic functions, structural linguistics, cognitive linguistics, semantics, pragmatic influence.

The issue  in this article discusses about the understanding meaningcontext of poetry that has been not  be studied from structural linguistics  since the early 20th century. The purpose of this research is  studying and analyzing contemporary poetry WS Rendra using the function of Leech language and  enriching class VIII KD 3.7 material. and 4.7 on the building blocks of poetry text and deducing the meaning of the poetry text. Throughthe qualitative descriptive analysis method, WS Rendra's poetry was described by analyzing the lines in the verse of his poetry. The function of Leech language can be studied and analyzed in poetry literature, especially contemporary poetry.  Five of the  language functions, there is only one function that cannot be examined from the poem. It is the phatic function because the poem in entitled 'Kecoa Pembagunan' contains social criticism which used the words of satire and ridicule in every  lines of the sentences. The function of the Leech language can be implemented in teaching because the results of the analysis can be integrated with the building blocks of poetry. As my suggestion,  the teachers should expand the study of language functions from several experts to improve and expand literary material, especially poetry.Permasalahan yang dibahas dalam artikel ini tentang adanya pemahaman makna  pada konteks puisi  yang belum bisa dikaji dari linguistik struktural yang sudah ada sejak awal abad 20. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengkaji dan menganalisis puisi kontemporer WS Rendra dengan mengunakan fungsi bahasa Leech serta memperkaya materi kelas VIII KD 3.7 dan 4.7 pada unsur pembangun teks puisi serta menyimpulkan makna teks puisi. Dengan metode analisis deskriptif kualitatif, puisi WS Rendra dideskripsikan maknanya dengan menganalisis baris-baris dalam bait puisinya. Fungsi bahasa Leech dapat dikaji dan dianalisis pada sastra puisi, terutama puisi kontempoer. Dari lima fungsi bahasa hanya satu fungsi yang tidak bisa dikaji dari puisi tersebut, yaitu fungsi fatis. Hal ini dikarenakan puisi yang berjudul ‘Kecoa Pembagunan’ berisi kritik sosial yang menggunakan kata kias sindiran dan ejekan pada baris-baris kalimatnya. Fungsi bahasa Leech dapat diimplementasikan dalam pengajaran karena dari hasil analisis dapat terintegrasi dengan materi unsur-unsur pembangun puisi.  Saran penulis, guru sebaiknyalebih memperluas kajian fungsi bahasa dari beberapa ahli untuk meningkatkan dan memperluas materi sastra terutama puisi.

This paper studies the process of sound correspondences that occur in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), Moroccan Arabic (MAR), and Najdi Arabic (NAR). It attempts to find answers for the following questions: a) What are the identical word pairs, words couples that have a phonemic correspondence, a phonetic similarity, and a pair of words that contains difference of one phoneme, b) What are the process of morphophonemic in the form of assimilation, metathesis, and epenthesis. It is addressed to portray the process of morphophonemic assimilation, metathesis and epenthesis in three Arabic languages using Crowley’s theory. This study used 207 of Morris Swadesh's basic vocabulary as the key standard procedure for collecting data. The criteria adopted to analyze the data were orthographic, sound-change, phonological, and morpheme contrast. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The source of the data was basic-word vocabulary. The data were gathered from three dictionaries as sources to get information. The data were analyzed by using structural linguistics, especially phonology, morphology, and semantics. This investigation informed several aspects of findings such as identifying prefixes, suffixes, assimilation, metathesis, and epenthesis. Using the Swadesh vocabulary list, the results of this study found 207 vocabularies for each language. By analyzing parts of speech, it was found that these vocabularies can be classified into five-word classes, namely, nouns, pronouns, verb, adjectives, adverbs, and determiners.

Summary When mention is made of Brazil in connection with American linguistics, it usually amounts to a reference to the Linguistic Circle of New York, where Roman Jakobson (1896–1982) and Claude Lévi-Strauss (b.1908), who had come from Brazil where he had done ethnological work, met and exchanged ideas. This singular event has cast a shadow on other contacts between Brazil and American linguistics, of which, the one between Jakobson and the Brazilian linguist Joaquim Mattoso Câmara (1904–1970) was much more consequential, at least as far as the implementation of structural linguistics in Brazil and in South America generally during the 1950s and the 1960s is concerned. Mattoso Câmara came to the United States and spent most of his time in New York City (September 1943 till April 1944), where he got exposure to Praguean type structuralism, notably through Jakobson’s lectures he attended at Columbia University and at the École Libre of New York, which had been established by European refugees at the time. He also participated in the first meetings of the Linguistic Circle of New York in 1943 as one of its co-founders. Following his return to Rio de Janeiro, Mattoso Câmara proposed, in 1949, as his doctoral thesis a phonemic description of Brazilian Portuguese. The work was published a few years later, in 1953. His most influential work, Princípios de Lingüística Gerai, first published in 1954, had two more revised and updated editions (1958, 1967) and served to introduce several generations of Brazilian as well as other South American students to structural linguistics during the 1950s and 1960s.

Focusing on Guattari and Deleuze's collaborative critique of structural linguistics, this article claims that rather than offering an ‘escape from language’, Guattari and Deleuze recast language as a social and political practice. Through a reading of Guattari and Deleuze's analysis of Saussure, their reinterpretation of Hjelmslev, and a discussion of the concepts of order-words and minor use of language, the article shows how, to do this, the authors develop a social and semiotic critique whereby the very concept of language changes from representation to intervention in a material and social field.
