AbstractThis article presents an up-to-date checklist of Coptic magical texts. It deals with methodological issues, such as the criteria used for the selection of the texts and their classification into three categories (certain, probable and possible magical texts), and with the main characteristics of the texts included in the corpus: their geographical and chronological distribution, language and dialects, materials and purposes, and how they compare to Greek magical texts. A list with all items follows, including the basic characteristics for each of them

The finding in Morehead and Ingram (1973) that children with a language impairment do better in the use of inflectional morphology than MLU-matched typically developing children has been in marked contrast to several subsequent studies that have found the opposite relationship (cf. review in Leonard, 1998). This research note presents a reanalysis of a subset of the original Morehead and Ingram data in an attempt to reconcile these contradictory findings. The reanalysis revealed that the advantage on inflectional morphology for children with language impairment was only on the progressive suffix, not on plural and possessive or on the verbal morphemes third-person present tense and past tense. The results of the reanalysis are in line with more recent research (e.g., Rice, Wexler, & Cleave, 1995). The resolution of these discrepant results highlights the critical roles that methodological issues play—specifically, how subjects are matched on MLU, how inflectional morphology is measured, and the selection of subjects with regard to age.

The aim of the study is to assess the methodology of 2011 Population and Housing Census in terms of ethnic questions. The study focused on questions concerning national minorities and ethnic and regional dialects aside from issues of religion. Assessing census methodology legal regulations were discussed, including relation between census estimates and statutory rights of national minorities. In this topic, attention was paid to the protection of “privacy” and the confidentiality of personal data, the reliability of ethnic data obtained in censuses and the need for their acquisition. Afterwards relationship between international recommendations and the way the recognition of ethnic questions in 2011 census was presented. With regard to methodological issues, first methods of conducting population censuses were discussed. Comparing the traditional method, and the one based on administrative records, the attention was drawn to the fulfillment of the UN Recommendations as concerns basic characteristics of the census. Focused on register-based approach, the possibilities of estimating information relating to national and ethnic minorities were discussed. Attention was paid to the consequences of defining different categories of the census population and sample survey conducted within the 2011 census. Possibilities of small area statistics and calibration were presented. Particular attention was paid to the possibility of estimating information on national and ethnic minorities.

The paper deals with the methodology of handling equipment designing in intermodal transport terminals. The overall performance of the intermodal transport terminal, and hence its effectiveness, is most affected by the capacity of handling equipments that transfer intermodal transport units between transport modes. The first part of the paper describes the various types of handling equipments conventionally used in intermodal terminals. The second part of the paper contains the basic characteristics of the methodology of designing specific handling equipment and provides a calculation methodology for determining the operational needs of intermodal transport terminals.

A systematic theoretical approach is presented first, in an effort to provide a complete and illuminating study on motion of a rigid body rotating about a fixed point. Since the configuration space of this motion is a differentiable manifold possessing group properties, this approach is based on some fundamental concepts of differential geometry. A key idea is the introduction of a canonical connection, matching the manifold and group properties of the configuration space. Next, following the selection of an appropriate metric, the dynamics is also carried over. The present approach is theoretically more demanding than the traditional treatments but brings substantial benefits. In particular, an elegant interpretation can be provided for all the quantities with fundamental importance in rigid body motion. It also leads to a correction of some misconceptions and geometrical inconsistencies in the field. Finally, it provides powerful insight and a strong basis for the development of efficient numerical techniques in problems involving large rotations. This is demonstrated by an example, including the basic characteristics of the class of systems examined.

Selection of suitable locally available materials to build strong and durable roads with aggregate surfaces is desired to minimize road construction and maintenance costs and to minimize the detrimental effects of sedimentation. Eighteen aggregates were selected from local sources in Idaho, Oregon, South Dakota, and Washington State. Aggregate was placed in shallow metal frames and compacted to simulate a forest road. The levels of runoff and sediment from a highintensity, long-duration simulated rainstorm were measured. The material tests selected for use in the study included ones that define the basic characteristics of the aggregate, along with a number of tests intended to predict susceptibility to erosion. Each of the tests was statistically evaluated to identify those that best predicted the perceived aggregate quality. The two best indicators of aggregate quality were the results of the sand equivalent test and the P20 portion of the Oregon air degradation test. The best indicator of either runoff or sediment production was the fraction passing the 0.6-mm sieve. Acceptable aggregates, both those of good quality and those of marginal quality, exhibited a 2-order-of-magnitude range in both runoff and sediment production.

The purpose of this paper is to discuss important methodological issues that must be considered in planning and implementing clinical evaluation research in occupational therapy. The experiences of the authors in conducting a multi-centre intervention trial are used to illustrate issues and decisions which can both enhance the scientific integrity of clinical research while maint a ining its feasibility. Methodological issues include choice of research design, identification of significant confounding variables, subject selection and enrollment, incidence-prevalence bias, selection of appropriate and responsive outcome measures, maintenance of treatment consistency and compliance, and “masked” evaluation of outcomes. Attention to these issues will increase the methodological quality of occupational therapy evaluation research and improve the credibility of its results.

It is important to predict trends of economic development for any country. Researchers and practitioners use different ways for evaluation and forecasting economic activity. Identification of indicators, which change impact on the economy in general, is one of the widespread methods. The most appropriate tools to solve this problem are the leading indicators and indexes based on leading indicators. The selection of indicators depends on the specificity of the country’s economy. Among the leading economic indicators is the dynamics of applications for the Building permissions for private houses, and can also be successfully use residential transactions. Depending on the above, the paper deals the aspects of calculation of leading economic indicators. This paper analyses some aspects of the effectiveness of indicator for predicting economic activity and describes the methodological issues forward leading indicators. Particular attention is paid to analysis of residential transactions dynamics as a leading indicator as in theoretical as in practical terms. The article highlights the peculiarities of its implementation in Georgia.

This work describes a model of a running gear of the designed tracked radio-controlled harvester intended for clean cutting which has been developed in the applied software package “Universal Mechanism” with use of the “Tracked Vehicles” module. It offers basic characteristics, justifies selection of variable parameters of the model. It describes modelling options of a model travel over variable irregularities, presents the obtained tractive effort torques on sprockets and loads acting on the support rollers.

In the absence of random treatment assignment, the selection of appropriate control variables is essential to designing well-specified empirical tests of causal effects. However, the importance of control variables seems underappreciated in accounting research relative to other methodological issues. Despite the frequent reliance on control variables, the accounting literature has limited guidance on how to select them. We evaluate the evolution in use of control variables in accounting research and discuss some of the issues that researchers should consider when choosing control variables. Using simulations, we illustrate that more control is not always better and that some control variables can introduce bias into an otherwise well-specified model. We also demonstrate other issues with control variables including the effects of measurement error and complications associated with fixed effects. Lastly, we provide practical suggestions for future accounting research.
