Research on Induced Voltage and Current for Hybrid Transmission System Composed of GIL and Overhead Line

Abstract Gas insulated metal-enclosed transmission line (GIL) is a substitute for overhead line, which is used for power transmitting in complicated geographical or geological environment In order to satisfying the requirements of operation in maintained state, each side of GIL needs to be installed a grounding switch. For the hybrid transmission system composed of GIL and double-circuit overhead line, the whole overhead line will be divided into incomplete transposed/non-transposed parts due to connection of GIL. When one of the grounding switches of GIL closes, it can lead to much greater induced current in each grounding switch. The induced voltage and current for hybrid transmission system will also change because of different parameters between GIL and overhead line. Calculation methods of induced voltage and current for hybrid transmission system with GIL are presented in this paper. Then, calculation conditions for hybrid transmission system are analyzed based on these evidences. Su-Tong GIL pipe gallery project is taken as an example for simulation in ATP/EMTP. Compared with traditional transmission system with overhead line, much higher performance requirements for grounding switches of Su-Tong GIL pipe gallery project are necessary, especially for induced current.

With the view of calculation methods accuracy increase duringcalculations by Carson’s method, by simplified Carson’s method and by hequ method, we considered induced voltage parameters,currents and voltage distribution alonggrounded on the ends single-wire transmission lines created by magnetic field of parallel single-wire operating line. It is shown that hequ method, eliminating errors in the "dead zone" in calculation by Carson’s method, gives almost identical results outside the "dead zone", and small differences with the results of simplified Carson’s method.


This paper deals with the induced voltage along cross-bonded cable sheaths of a 220 kV mixed overhead-cable transmission line when a lightning surge propagates from the overhead line. The simulation is performed by using EMTP-ATP software to analyze the effect of surrounding environment of the cable on the sheath voltage and the surge impedance thereof. The results show that the sheath voltage can exceed the impulse withstand voltage of the cable jacket in overhead cables. The results also suggest that the sheath voltage limiters (SVL) need to be installed at the junction between minor sections of overhead cables to minimize the effects of lightning induced voltage on the sheath.

Recently, the new Green Deal policy initiative was presented by the European Union. The EU aims to achieve a sustainable future and be the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. It targets all of the continent’s industries, meaning aviation must contribute to these changes as well. By employing a systems engineering approach, this high-level task can be split into different levels to get from the vision to the relevant system or product itself. Part of this iterative process involves the aircraft requirements, which make the goals more achievable on the system level and allow validation of whether the designed systems fulfill these requirements. Within this work, the top-level aircraft requirements (TLARs) for a hybrid-electric regional aircraft for up to 50 passengers are presented. Apart from performance requirements, other requirements, like environmental ones, are also included. To check whether these requirements are fulfilled, different reference missions were defined which challenge various extremes within the requirements. Furthermore, figures of merit are established, providing a way of validating and comparing different aircraft designs. The modular structure of these aircraft designs ensures the possibility of evaluating different architectures and adapting these figures if necessary. Moreover, different criteria can be accounted for, or their calculation methods or weighting can be changed.
