SummaryThis study stays at the crossroads of Rhetoric, Text Grammar and Textual Critic. It studies the division of chapters (made firstly by Gruter in 1607) of the Roman History (Historic Romwia: H.R.) of Velleius Paterculus: the old Rhetoric text types, the opening and closing marks, the characters and personages and the thematic sentences as cohesive devices. These thematic sentences are used as introductions of chapter, and they are followed by confirmatives with quippe and with demonstrative relatives. They constitute a mark similar to the propositions of the argumentative texts, with special syntactic characteristics in the text of Velleius. The studied corpus are the first 57 chapters of the second book of the Historia Romana.

‘Audax venali comitatur Curio lingua’ wrote Lucan in a familiar line of his Bellum Civile, at a time when C. Scribonius Curio the younger had been a hundred years in his grave. Lucan was not the first to describe Curio as audax; Velleius Paterculus did so before him: ‘bello autem civili … non alius maiorem flagrantioremque quam C. Curio tribunus plebis subiecit facem, vir nobilis, eloquens, audax,’, 11, 48, 3. It seems, indeed, that the attribute audax was traditional for Curio and, if this is so, the tradition may well have originated in Curio's own time. His title to a place in Roman history rested on the fact that he changed sides at a critical juncture—‘momentumque fuit mutatus Curio rerum’ (Lucan IV, 819). And what earned him, whether in his lifetime or posthumously, the derogatory attribute audax was, I think, his political career, notably the record of his tribuneship, no less, if not more, than his character. Audax, as originally applied to Curio, was very probably a conventional partisan appellation which classified him more effectively as a political type than it characterized him as an individual. For the derogatory audax, as I shall presently try to show, belongs in the late Republican period to the current phraseology of political backbiting and it carries a distinctly political connotation. It is the purpose of this paper to consider what audax denotes in the vocabulary of Roman political life in the late Republic as well as who are regarded as audaces in Roman politics.

The “Roman history” by Velleius Paterculus is the sole historiographical work written by a contemporary of Augustus and Tiberius. The paper deals with representation of the Roman Senate of Velleius’ time in his work. I argue that in his compendium the historian reflected the ambivalent position of the Senate under the first two Roman Emperors. He depicts the institution as more passive in comparison with its description in the previous period and as depending on the Princeps. At the same time this Roman author characterizes the Senate as having maiestas, the notion which was not connected with this authority under the Republic. Assigning of maiestas to the Senate by Velleius reflects a deep change in the position of the curia due to decline of the popular assemblies’ significance at the beginning of the Principate.

This study aims at examining the writing skills of a group of Indonesian graduate students of English. A particular attention has been focused on the coherence of their production of argumentative texts. Employing a discourse analytical case study, three texts written by three Master’s degree students of the English language education at a local university in Central Java, Indonesia, were analyzed. Coherence and cohesion is inextricable in which both are crucial in academic writing as to achieve a makes-sense text. Therefore, it is an urgent need to look at the writing competency of students as they are at graduate level, majoring in the English language education. The texts produced by the students were scrutinized through the lens of micro- and macro-level coherence (Thornburry, 2005). From this theory, cohesion is involved in micro level coherence. The findings indicate that the students show a bit weakness on achieving coherent texts due to lack of optimization of cohesive devices especially conjunctions to create interconnectedness of the whole sentences in the texts.

This research is based on the fact that while learning a foreign language, translation ability is important for various purposes, yet not easy for the learners to acquire. This study was therefore aimed to: (1) identify the difficulties facing the students in translating different types of texts, especially descriptive, narrative and argumentative; (2) measure the student's ability to translate the text of three different types; and (4) provide feedback to the faculty about the students’ ability to translate descriptive text, narrative and argumentative texts in particular. For the purpose of this study, only non-fiction texts were provided for the students. And it is assumed that different text types require them to take different ways of translating. The subjects were 30 students of the Department of French Language Education, at a state education university in Bandung, who attended a French-Indonesian Translation class. Data collecting instrument used was a translation test consisting descriptive, narrative and argumentative texts to be translated from French into Indonesian. The findings showed that half of the students had difficulty translating the three types of text, particularly in paragraph cohesion and fairness criteria. But they were more able to translate narrative and argumentative texts than descriptive text due to text structure and characteristics as well as students’ lack of vocabulary acquisition. However, in general the students had a slightly sufficient ability to translate those three text types from French into Indonesian. Errors in translation were also identified in relation to their knowledge of both source and target languages.

The purposes of this reasearch are 1) describing the efforts of increasing the elementary school of Turusgede teachers pedagogic competence at the first semester of 2018/2019 academic year in opening and closing the learning by using the self assessment technique and 2) analysing the increase of the elementary school of Turusgede teachers pedagogic competence at the first semester of 2018/2019 academic year in opening and closing the learning by using the self assessment technique. This research is School Action Research (SAR). This research is taken palce in elementary school of Turusgede, Subdistrict of Rembang, Regency of Rembang. The time of this research is the early-middle first semester of 2018/2019 academic year. The subjects of this research are teachers in the elementary school of Turusgede, Subdistrict of Rembang, Regency of Rembang, consist of twelve teachers. The data of this research is teachers pedagogic competence in opening and closing the learning. The techniques of collecting data are using nontest technique and test technique. The tools of collecting data are using the sheets of observation, camera application on hand phone and the form of self assessment. The technique of analizing data in this research is decriptive comparation. The procedure of this research is using Cycle Model, consist of four steps: planning, action, observation and reflection. Each cycle is going on one week. The results of this research are 1) the academic supervision with self assessment technique is previously sharing the form of self assessment to the subjects of this research, 2) self assessment technique is self assessment according to the next theme and matter, 3) self assessment technique is self assessment after the learning finish and 4) teachers pedagogic competence with self assessment technique is increasing and including good category (B) that according with the result of observation and including very good category (A) that according with the result of self assessment. Key words: Pedagogic, Supervision, Self Assessment Technique.

The craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD) is a pathology that can appear at early ages. In a sample of 36 childrenresiding in Madrid (Spain), of both sexes, with ages between 7 and 13 years, the prevalence of signs and symptomsof CMD was analyzed. For that purpose, we did a dental and muscular examination, together with temporomandibularjoints, functional and occlusal examination, and completed with a specific questionnaire. The results revealedthat 100% showed some sign or sympthom of CMD. 77,8% of the pacients presented 3 or more CMD signs.The most prevalent were painful muscle palpation (94,4%), together with sliding anteriorly (91,7%), painful jointpalpation (69,4%), wear facets in permanent teeth (41,7%) and altered opening and closing trayectory (38,9%). Onthe other hand, only 38,9% showed any CMD symptom. The most prevalent symptoms were night teeth grinding(27,8%), followed by tooth sensitivity (19,4%) and fullness in the ears (16,7%). We conclude that in our sample,25% presented mild CMD (less that 3 signs or symptoms), 58,3% presented moderate CMD (from 3 to 6 signs orsymptoms) and 16,7% showed severe CMD (more than 6 symptoms). Nevertheless, it’s important to remark thatnone of these pacients came seeking treatment for his CMD and these symptoms were refered only when beingasked. Hence the importance of a comprehensive clinic history to precociously diagnose this pathology and havethe ability to prevent its progression.
