Two commonly used constructs in sport psychology researches are aggression and sportsmanship. In the present research, we attempted to assess the correlations between these two phenomena among male water polo players. The main objective was to explore the differences in aggression in the sport-specific positions of water polo in different aspects - physique, age, etc. - considered. Furthermore, the research sought to demonstrate the inverse relationship between aggression and sportsmanship in a water polo sample. To access these constructs in our research besides the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire and the Sportsmanship Attitude Scale a self-formulated water polo specific questionnaire was used, which intended to measure the aggression in the water during water polo matches. From the results, it can be seen that, according to our sample, both the trait aggression of the players and the role determined by their positions in the game play a decisive role when it comes to the aggression of an athlete. Moreover, the results obtained for water polo players also proved that sportsmanship and aggression are two contradictory constructs.

ObjectivesTo present the challenges and adaptations done to the EuroQol Valuation Technology (EQ-VT) protocol to fit the Egyptian culture during the extensive pilot phase of the Egyptian EuroQol 5 Dimension five level (EQ-5D-5L) valuation studyDesignThis study was a cross-sectional, interviewer-administered face-to-face survey of representative Egyptians using the Arabic version of the EuroQol Group Valuation Technology (EQ-VT-2.1) and a country specific questionnaire pertaining to participants’ demographics and opinions about health, life and deathSettingParticipants were recruited from workplaces, university campuses, sporting clubs, shopping malls and other public areas from different Egyptian governorates representing all geographical areas of the country.ParticipantsA total of 1378 participants were interviewed from July 2019 to March 2020 by 12 interviewers to select a representative sample in terms of: geographical distribution, age and gender, of which 75 participants did not complete the interview, 298 interviews were pilot and 1005 interviews were real of which 974 interviews were used for the valuation study. Two participants did not complete the country-specific questionnaire but completed the valuation protocol; therefore, 1301 interviews were included in the final analysis of country specific questions.ResultsSome modifications were applied to the protocol. The ‘wheelchair example’ was modified to ‘migraine example’ since most of the participants in the pilot interviews considered being in a wheelchair ‘worse than dead’. There was some ambiguity in the Egyptian translated version for the EQ-5D-5L between levels 4 and 5 of the pain and depression dimensions. This was overcome by using colour coding to express the different levels of severity. A pictorial representation for the EQ-5D-5L health states was used to interview illiterate and less educated participants.ConclusionIn the Egyptian valuation study, the modifications made to the EQ-VT protocol made it feasible and culturally acceptable to the Egyptian participants.

After months of controversy, the speed limit on two-way secondary French roads without a median strip was reduced from 90 to 80 km/hr on 1 July 2018. Thousands of car drivers and motorcyclists have since protested against this measure, and the present study concerned the latter group. Starting from the Theory of Conditionality in the field of social thinking, which holds that prescriptions are massively conditional, a specific questionnaire based on 23 conditional scripts has been devised. A total of 661 male motorcyclists were asked about the conditions justifying the transgression of the 80 km/hr limit. Results showed that those motorcyclists who exceeded this limit did so by at least by 20 km/hr. A personalized assessment of speed, the pleasure associated with driving, and good road and weather conditions were the most conditional situations, while situations linked to the risk of loss of control were the least conditional. This study suggests that the determinants of risk-taking must be studied at the group and context levels, and that behavior is influenced by the system of social norms. Although this system may conflict with the Highway Code, it reflects an adaptation of the group linked to a need for meaning.   Received: 7 July 2021 / Accepted: 12 August 2021 / Published: 5 September 2021

To improve or sustain patients’ quality of life (QoL) is the main goal of palliative care. In palliative care as in healthcare in general, QoL is commonly conceptualized as health-related quality of life (HRQoL) which is the self-perceived health status of an individual and encompasses measurable components that are related to health, disease, illness, and medical interventions. Patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures is the term presently used for any measure that collects responses directly from the patients and includes measures on QoL, HRQoL, functions, and symptoms. In spite of substantial evidence on the positive outcomes of using PRO instruments (questionnaires) in the clinic, such use still faces barriers from the health system and the healthcare providers. The content and the measurement capabilities of present PRO instruments can also be a barrier. The selection of PRO instruments is recommended to follow a sequential approach. Define overall aim(s), define the research question(s), agree upon the key outcome(s), and select the appropriate set of questions/questionnaires guided by the primary and secondary outcomes. In general, it is recommended to use a generic or a disease-specific questionnaire and supplement with domain-specific questionnaire(s) for measurement of fatigue, pain, anxiety, depression, or other symptoms/functions reflecting the purpose(s) of the data collection.

AbstractIn response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the UK Government placed society on ‘lockdown’, altering the gambling landscape. This study sought to capture the immediate lockdown-enforced changes in gambling behaviour. UK adults (n = 1028) were recruited online. Gambling behaviour (frequency and weekly expenditure, perceived increase/decrease) was measured using a survey-specific questionnaire. Analyses compared gambling behaviour as a function of pre-lockdown gambling status, measured by the Brief Problem Gambling Scale. In the whole sample, gambling participation decreased between pre- and during-lockdown. Both gambling frequency and weekly expenditure decreased during the first month of lockdown overall, but, the most engaged gamblers did not show a change in gambling behaviour, despite the decrease in opportunity and availability. Individuals whose financial circumstances were negatively affected by lockdown were more likely to perceive an increase in gambling than those whose financial circumstances were not negatively affected. Findings reflect short-term behaviour change; it will be crucial to examine, at future release of lockdown, if behaviour returns to pre-lockdown patterns, or whether new behavioural patterns persist.

The objective of this work is to propose and apply a methodology to obtain the cost of industrial process shutdowns due to voltage sag and short interruption. A field survey, aided by a specific questionnaire, was carried out in several industries connected to medium voltage networks, in the states of Espírito Santo and São Paulo in Brazil. The results obtained were the costs per event and the costs per demand in a total of 33 companies in 12 different types of activities. It is noteworthy that this survey brings a relevant technical contribution to the electricity sector, helping to fill, even partially, an existing gap in both national and international literature.

Abstract Purpose: To assess quality of life in keratoconus patients using the Keratoconus Outcomes Research Questionnaire (KORQ) translated and validated to Portuguese language. KORQ is the only validated keratoconus specific questionnaire and has high rating for psychometric properties. Methods: In this cross-sectional study enrolled 100 patients with keratoconus from a tertiary referral eye hospital, from April 2018 to June 2019. Associations between age, gender, allergic conjunctivitis, keratoconus stage, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), maximum simulated keratometry (Kmax), steep keratometry (K2), pachymetry, treatments performed, hydrops and KORQ scores were evaluated with univariate (Wilcoxon test and the Kruskal Wallis test) and multivariate linear regression with stepwise backward modeling. Lower scores of KORQ are associated with better quality of life, as well as higher scores are associated with greater impairment of functional activities and symptoms. Results: Out of the 100 patients, mild, moderate and severe keratoconus, was observed in 15%, 46% and 39% of participants, respectively. Univariate analysis showed lower values for function scores with male gender (p<0.05) and both functional and symptoms scores statistically associated with BCVA<0.3 (LogMAR) (p<0.05). Multivariate analysis indicated significantly lower functional scores in individuals with BCVA<0.3 (p<0.001) and those with history of crosslinking treatment (p=0.022), while symptom scores were only statistically associated with BCVA<0.3 (p<0.001).Conclusions: In patients with keratoconus, BCVA in the better eye and history of crosslinkig are factors were associated with better quality of life scores using KORQ.

Hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection is widespread among domestic pigs, industrial swine, and wild boars in Bulgaria. The aim of the current research was to present the HEV seroprevalence among blood donors in Bulgaria. In the present study, 555 blood donors (479 males and 76 females) were enrolled from five districts in the country (Shumen, Pleven, Stara Zagora, Plovdiv, and Sofia districts). All blood samples were tested for anti-HEV IgG using the recomWell HEV IgG ELISA test (Mikrogen GmbH, Neuried, Germany). Each participating donor completed a short, structured, and specific questionnaire to document data on the current study. Anti-HEV IgG positive results were detected in 144 (25.9%) blood donors, including 129 (26.9%) males and 15 (19.7%) females. The established HEV seropositivity was 28.8% (23/80) in Shumen district, 23.2% (22/95) in Pleven district, 27.1% (38/140) in Stara Zagora district, 27.5% (44/160) in Plovdiv district, and 21.3% (17/80) in Sofia district. A high HEV seroprevalence was found for persons who declared that they were general hunters (48.7%; 19/39; p = 0.001) and hunters of wild boars (51.6%; 16/31; p = 0.001). We present the first seroprevalence rates of HEV infection in blood donors from Bulgaria. The results of our research showed high HEV seropositivity among blood donors.
