Tetra-n-butyl ammonium bromide (TBAB) was found to be an efficient phase-transfer catalyst for the synthesis of pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidines by one-pot reaction of 6-aminouracils, aromatic aldehydes, and malononitrile or ethyl cyanoacetate in water under ultrasonic irradiation. The advantages of this method are the use of an inexpensive and readily available catalyst, short reaction time, easy work-up, improved yields, and the use of water as a solvent that is environmentally benign.

An environmentally benign three-component synthetic method is described for the construction of 2-aryl-4-phenylquinazoline derivatives from the reaction between aldehydes, ammonium acetate, and 2-aminobenzophenone in the presence of lactic acid in a solvent-less media. The benefits of the reaction were good yields, a simple procedure, simple starting materials short reaction time, easy work-up, and cleaner reaction profiles.

One-pot efficient protocol to the synthesis of 2-amino-5-oxo-4,5-dihydropyrano(3,2-c)chromene-3-carbonitrile derivatives via condensation of various aryl aldehydes, dicyanomethane and 4-hydroxycoumarin in presence of Emim hydroxide as an excellent homogeneous liquid catalyst. The key advantages of this methodology are mild reaction conditions, novel catalyst, short reaction time, eco-friendly, easy work-up procedure and high yield of isolation of derivatives.

A series of new 8-aryl-7,8-dihydro[1,3]dioxolo[4,5-g]chromen-6-ones were synthesized via a three-component reaction of 3,4-methylenedioxyphenol, aromatic aldehydes and Meldrum’s acid in the presence of CeCl3·7H2O under solvent-free conditions. The method provided several advantages such as easy work-up, high yields and environmentally benign procedure.

For the first time the 4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) catalyzed straightforward and efficient procedure has been developed for the synthesis of 3,3′-(arylmethylene) bis(2-hydroxynaphthalene-1,4-dione) derivatives starting from lawsone (2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone) and a variety of (hetero)aromatic aldehydes in ethanol under microwave irradiation. Three of nine synthesized compounds are new. This method provides notable advantages over existing procedures including use of non-traditional basic catalyst and environmentally benign solvent, mild reaction conditions, excellent yields, short reaction time and simple workup.

: A clean and efficient one-pot protocol for the synthesis of a series of new 2-hydroxy-3-((3-aryl)(heteroarylamino)methyl)naphthalene-1,4-dione derivatives has been developed by the three-component reaction of 2-hydroxynaphthalene-1,4-dione, aromatic aldehydes and heterocyclic amines at 90 oC under solvent and catalyst-free conditions. The procedure avoids the use of toxic solvents, tedious work-up, catalyst and purification of the products by chromatographic methods. Simple operation, short reaction times, generating the desired compounds in high to excellent yields and an environmentally benign method are advantages of this protocol.

A series of 12-aryl-8,9,10,12-tetrahydrobenzo[a]xanthen-11-one derivatives were synthesized via the three-component coupling from aromatic aldehydes, 2-naphthol and 5,5–dimethylcyclohexane -1,3-dione catalyzed by NaHSO4 in ionic liquid, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([BMIM]BF4). The reaction proceeded with good yields under short reaction time. The NaHSO4 was not expensive and the ionic liquid could be reused. The proposed method is efficient and environmentally friendly.

Background: The conception of ‘Green chemistry’ is the much inventive chemistry which is potent and more environmentally benign. It is notable that many organic reactions take place in conventional organic solvents, known as volatile organic compounds. Being concerned about the environmental impact, we report a promoting medium, coconut juice (ACC) for one-pot synthesis of biscoumarins and pyranocoumarins which is safe, harmless, green and environmentally benign. Methods and Results: Substituted biscoumarins have been achieved by the reaction of biscoumarin and substituted aromatic aldehydes in presence of ACC which acts as a green catalyst cum solvent. Each reaction showed good to excellent yield in presence of both electron donating as well as electron withdrawing group on aromatic aldehyde without formation of any by-products. Similarly, pyranocoumarins have been achieved by the reaction of biscoumarin, substituted aromatic aldehydes, active methylene nitrile in presence of ACC. All the reactions proceed smoothly and gave higher yields in case of malononitrile in comparison of ethyl-2-cyanoacetate. Conclusion: A simple, eco-friendly and novel procedure was demonstrated for the synthesis of biscoumarins and pyranocoumarins using natural feedstock coconut juice. The major importance of using ACC juice is higher yields, no work-up and no column chromatography.

Abstract2-Amino-4-aryl-4H-benzo[h]chromenes and 3-amino-1-aryl-1H-benzo[f]chromenes were prepared by treating cyano-methylene compounds (malononitrile or ethyl cyanoacetate), substituted aromatic aldehydes, and naphtholic compounds in the presence of potassium phthalimide as a green, mild, efficient, and commercially available organocatalyst in aqueous media. The procedure was readily conducted and affords remarkable advantages such as safety, short reaction times, environmentally benign milder reaction conditions, no organic solvent required, and high yields.
